......changing your name by Deedpoll.

I was told by a man in the pub this week that my eldest son has officially changed his full name by Deedpoll a few weeks ago. Saw my son this morning and challenged him about it, sure enough he has.

What's he changed it to? And from? ie From your surname to a stepdad or something, or from yours to something silly/unrelated to anyone?

Not sure what I think about it except for you shouldnt change it to something totally riduculous, dont like that!

Do you mind that he has changed his name? Or is it the reason behind changing his name? Or what he has changed his name to?

He hasn't changed it to "DJ Soulman Jr" so he could capitalise on your success was he?

That would be cheeky eh! Because you're quite a successful DJ right?

I deliberately didn't use emoticons in a feeble attempt to get unbiased responses.

Were you offended? :?

 Ab-so-f'kin-lutely!

After chucking my career down the toilet and dedicating my life to bringing my two sons up as a single parent for over ten years, this is the biggest slap in the face you could imagine. :?

Has changed his Christian and surname to something totally fictitious and unrelated to anyone. :? He's been talking about it for years and a few of his friends have been calling him by his made-up (Christian) name. But he changed it all by Deedpoll a few weeks ago without telling me because he knew my views on it.

Checked on the net this morning and anyone over 16 can do it without anybodies consent. Cost him £49 apparently. What suprised me was that, in this day and age, there is no central register/database/records of the changes in the country. 8O

He's 25 (mental age of 2  ) left home to live with his partner 6 months ago and has a baby on the way too. :?
Thats put the dampers on my trip to Ibiza next week. :(

He's just rebelling - I thought about changing my name to something ridiculous in my late teens.

It beared absolutely no reference to my ma and pa's parenting abilities tho.

The more cross you get, the more he'll do it - he's probably searching for boundaries at some level.

Nah, he's been playing with this name for over 5 years. Had a chip on his shoulder since Junior School, was bullied all his school life. Used to be known by some of his friends as "Phsyco".

as a parent, i have to say i really couldn't give a flying fcuk what my kids decided to call themselves. they've both got unusual-ish names anyway so if they wanted to change them, then whatever.

obviously i'm not saying i wouldn't be offended if the name was vulgar or something i didn't like, but that would be about the chosen name and not the fact they decided to do.
