New Order will be releasing a new album in March 2005, says Warner France. The album, which will be the band's eighth, is the follow up to Get Ready (2001) and sees production credits from Brit Guitar Pop veterans Stephen Street and John Leckie as well as Tore Johansson (St. Etienne, The Cardigans, Franz Ferdinand). The new album will return to the band's earlier dance sounds like that of Technique (1989) instead of the guitar-heavy tunes of Get Ready. As one of the most influential British acts of the 1980's, New Order is known for its pioneer sound composed of synth pop, dance, new wave and disco rhythms.

Before emerging on the Manchester post-punk scene, New Order started out as the outlandish Sex Pistols' inspired outfit, Joy Division with Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, Stephen Morris and Ian Curtis. Famous for their intense songwriting and performances, the band was literally divided with the suicide of Ian Curtis in 1980, before re-surfacing with Gillian Gilbert as New Order. New Order debuted - in the days of the LP- with the dark Ceremony single in 1981, followed by Everything's Gone Green, a track inspired by Kraftwerk-styled synthesizers, sequencers and NYC underground electro beats.

In 1983, New Order's Blue Monday single went on to sell over 3 million copies worldwide and became the best selling 12'' release of all time. Their first record, Power, Corruption and Lies was released in 1983 and then Confusion, which, through collaborative production efforts with Arthur Baker, made it to the US R'n B charts the following year. In 1995, the band released their Low-life album with the hit single, The Perfect Kiss followed by Brotherhood in 1986 which also featured the techy Bizarre Love Triangle. In 1997, New Order made the North American markets with their Substance album while the remixed version of Blue Monday 1988 inspired the house driven tunes of Technique - New Order's dance album in 1989.

For the next few years, the members of New Order pursued solo projects before reuniting for Republic in 1993 and Get Ready in 2001. In the meantime, Peter Hook worked with dance duo, Hybrid on their Morning Sci-Fi album and has been resident DJ at the Arc Club in Brighton (UK) since March of this year. Along with Bernard Sumner, Hook has also worked on The Great Thing, the latest single from Gwen Stefani's new solo album, Love. Angel. Music. Baby. You can check out Peter Hook djing and Bernard Sumner backing vocals live at the Arc Club in Brighton this New Year's Eve

New Order's latest album will be out 28th March, 2005. (12/21/04)

Marcus, they are not a very live act band if you know what I mean :(

Yeah ... apparently Hooky loves playing live, but Bernard hates it!

Should be some gigs to support the new album hopefully... I saw them twice at the Brixton Academy in 2001 after Get Ready was released, and then again in Finsbury Park in '02 ... 8)
