not very excited eh?

It sounds like a great idea, I reckon.

However that story is a little light on actual facts:

"We've found out about plans for a new music festival in Ibiza next summer.

"Promoters hope it''ll fill a gap created by there want to take advantage of the fact there's no Glastonbury in 2006 and hope to fly some of the world's biggest bands in for the event."

Don't think it will be anything 'that' good..

I dunno 'bout that.

Everybody I know who went to the MTV quarry outdoor gigs in '99 & 2000 raved about them for years after.

Hearing them made my stomach tense up with regret.

:(

Probably a bit like how you feel when you think about Laurent Garnier taking to the decks at Space at 2am (approx.) this Sunday.

He's only doing an hour though (he tells himself)

Theres loads of Very good festivals going on around the world in June time though. If the Ibiza one is not a secret festival, odds on it will cost a bomb to get in, drinks will costs a load, and the djs will only get 2hours max.

Im being really shit and cynical here arent I.

sorry

Huge Music Festival Planned For Ibiza 2006?

By Daniel Melia on 12/08/2005

Rumours are circulating that a huge music festival in Ibiza is being planned for 2006 that hopes to attract some of the world’s biggest bands.

With Glastonbury taking a break next year promoters are reportedly hoping to take advantage and attract the acts to the island plus the hoards of fans that will no doubt follow them to the party island reports the BBC.

The event is all part of the attempts to mix up the musical styles on the island. 2005 has already seen bands like Babyshambles, Maximo Park and Kaiser Chiefs heading over to play at Manumission.

here we go again:

Ibiza gets Glastonbury Groove
By Adam Sherwin
The famously-flooded rock festival will take a holiday on the sun-soaked rave island next year

IBIZA’S golden beaches will replace the flooded fields of Glastonbury when the hippie holiday destination stages next summer’s leading rock festival.

Glastonbury is taking a year off to allow farmer Michael Eavis’s fields, and residents, a break. Ibiza is seizing an opportunity to transform itself from a drug-fuelled clubbers’ paradise into the holiday home of live rock music.

Kaiser Chiefs said they hoped to join the headliners at the three-day weekend event in June :!: . Other groups who may appear include Oasis, Snow Patrol, Goldfrapp, Franz Ferdinand and Hard-Fir.

The festival will incorporate outdoor stages as well as Manumission, Europe’s largest superclub, which can hold 10,000 people.

It intends to maintain Glastonbury’s “hippie” ethos, with street traders welcome but corporate sponsorship restricted. Bands may perform well into the early hours thanks to Ibiza’s relaxed licensing laws.

Manumission has countered a decline in dance music by staging live gigs this summer under the banner Ibiza Rocks. The shows have included Babyshambles, Futureheads and Maximo Park.

Dance music, the lifeblood of Ibiza’s club scene for 15 years, has reached a creative standstill. The holiday crowd is ageing and there were 13 per cent fewer British visitors last year.

The Ibiza Rocks gig by Kaiser Chiefs last week was the first Manumission event to sell out in advance, enticing Kate Moss, Sadie Frost and Jade Jagger to the VIP area. Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe has helped to book the acts and the club is now ready to expand into a fully-fledged festival.

Andy McKay, co-owner of Manumission, once famed for its live “sex shows”, said: “At last we have 18-year-olds bringing energy back into Ibiza, which is vital if it is to stay central to youth culture. Name me the superstar DJ who can sell as many tickets as these new rock bands?

“We are ready to up the ante and Ibiza will stage a major three-day live music festival next summer. The sites have been identified and discussions are taking place with artists. Glastonbury is not happening so there is a window of opportunity next June. But we want the festival to become an annual event.” :o

With its secluded villages far removed from the notorious “Ibiza uncovered” concrete jungle of San Antonio, Ibiza has become a playground for the music A-list.

Noel Gallagher has a luxury villa while Mariah Carey and P Diddy moor their yachts in the harbour. Andy Taylor of Duran Duran is opening a recording studio in the island for stars who want to mix work and pleasure.

The festival will be aimed at the rock fan on a budget. Tickets will be sold across Europe as a package, including flights and accommodation for those who would rather not camp.

Glastonbury regulars should feel at home. Mr McKay, who transported Manumission to Ibiza from Manchester more than a decade ago, said: “We want the festival to stay out of the grip of the big corporations. It was a sad day when McDonald’s came to the island. Ibiza is a free-spirited place and we would like to work with people like the Glastonbury team.”

Corporate sponsorship is, however, a reality for any new venture and Sony Ericsson covered the costs of flying bands to Ibiza and staging this year’s concerts.

Kaiser Chiefs, initially lured by a five-day holiday in Manumission’s luxury villa, said they would be back next year. The keyboard player, Nick Baines, said: “It’s a great idea to give kids a package deal where they can come to a festival from all across Europe. It has the appeal of Glastonbury with great music but you are guaranteed great weather. ”
Glastonbury’s gap year has created a hole in the calendar for music fans. The Clear Channel entertainment giant will stage an event called the Wireless Festival in Hyde Park over four nights. Royal Parks rules, however, forbid camping on the site.

btw, the other day jonni davis from rock surgery (saturdays on holiday fm, 9-11pm) said that the donnas might play too..........
