New Mixmag Cover CD

Right.

What do people think of the new Tanyia Vulcano / DC10 Mixmag Cover CD on the new issue??

Personally, it's confirmed to me that either :

(a) Minimal techno is complete bobbins that has the potential to send me to sleep even under the heavy influence of dance friendly pharmaceuticals (which I've suspected might be the case for some time but have been denying it to myself)

or

(b) I'm turning into my parents who used to offer me the advice that all dance music is repetative tosh and that I'd be much better off listening to a 'nice bit of Dire Straits'

(It'd certainly explain why I've never quite got DC10 - despite the enjoyable carnage that occurs there - though it equally could be down to the mullet sporting, flouro dressing, too cool for school Italian jet set that seem to pack the place out also)

I'm going for reason (a)

I daren't buy it...even I'm getting cross with crap minimal now.

It's ok in places but enough already, it's hardly revolutionary.

After parties - yep when I'm in the right mood - peak sets??? B O R I N G

...and it's a shame to hear this because Tania's sets used to be great! (I used to think so anyway)

too true, you have to be out of your tree to really get into a lot of minimal stuff. A lot of it is chin-strokingly dull.

Agree 100%

Concerning the CD, not heard it yet, but it's a shame becuase the tunes she played at Space closings in the car park were pretty good, they had a funky (melodic) edge to them.

I like most genres of dance music but this minimal is boring as fook, id no idea DC10 was like that as well remind me to avoid that place when im next in Ibiza esp id there are Italian posers there 8O

With you there mate, it looks like the minimal fad is passing cos im hearing alot of this at the mo...

Don't diss Circoloco / DC10 and judge it only according to this CD, because Tania Vulcano (and company) play much differently in DC10. Plus it sounds alot better in a real club's sound system (and when being under the influence 8) )

Oh and i don't and never did like (the real) minimal anyway.
There are many tunes that arent minimal but for some reason are being categorized as such by many of you.

Minimal for me is what was reffered to as 'micro house' 2.5+ years ago and was totally boring (and still is).

Tunes like Rej, Domino, Dopplewhipper, etc - which we've all learned to love, are really not defined as minimal by me!

My 2 cents.

what the hell is "micro house"8O:lol:

Rej, Dopplewhipper - which we've all learned to love

Sorry - not learned to love these records at all. I always thought Rej was tosh.

Certainly not judging DC10 on a Mixmag CD either. Been a few times over the years and (other than the Timo Maas's thing one year - which I believe is set to return this year) I've never been overly impressed by what I've heard - still had an enjoyable enough time there though.

Each to their own though

I think there should be a distinction between the likes of click click whirrr beep beep kind of minimal, and stuff becoming known as minimal/tech house (juno's fault for sticking them together?).

Last year saw a lot of dj's fusing different genres so youd find a lot of different styles played in one set, which i found pretty refreshing, and really opened up my ears to a lot of new sounds.

to be honest, i think the click-house thing has been on its way out for a while, theres only so long that such minimal music can hold its appeal.

Exactly. The best sets always have a bit of a mix'n match approach.

For example, Oliver played the Luciano mix of Love Dose (think it was Luciano's, the one you always heard out anyway) at La Troya and it went down very well, even though it didn't sound like anything else he played that night.
