Need Advice from the London Folk

I'll be in Ibiza from 10-24 August 2008. I connect in London both arriving and departing. Both of my layovers are on Sunday and approximately 10 hours long. I have to get from Heathrow to Gatwick and I know there is a straight shuttle between them. But, I thought there might be something to do for the day enroute - in the city.

Is there enough time to do anything worthwhile in the city for the day? I'm not too into the tourist stuff, but would love to hit a good brunch/lunch and see a few things.

I've never been to London, so any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

hi
you could get the heathrow express to paddington station,it takes 20 mins and gatwick express from victoria station takes 30 mins leaves you lots of time in london
everything depends on your budget you could shop on oxford and bond street lunch at gordon ramsay at claridges, after lunch london eye walk across westminster bridge a look round the house of parliament /westminster abbey then short walk to buckingham palace spend a hour there then yr 5 mins from victoria station

Thanks

Thanks for the info.

Only thing now - what do I do with my bags for the day? Is there a place downtown where one can get a locker big enough for two suitcases? I'd imagine probably not.

My other option could be to take the shuttle straightaway from Heathrow to Gatwick, lock up my things at the airport, then take the train to Victoria station. Unfortunately, I think that would eat up a lot of time though. Gatwick is further from the city than Heathrow.

Or, drag my suitcases everywhere for the day. Ugh.

Where exactly Gordon Ramsay/Claridges?

Thanks!

There are left luggage facilities at Paddington and Victoria stations.

You can easily pass 6 hours (cos that's what it will probably be minus travelling time to/from airports etc) in London - I'd just go shopping  And then go to Yauatcha in Soho for afternoon tea.

I ate there a couple of years ago, downstairs, was very nice !! Although i prefered their sister restaurant Hakasan (?), that was amazing. Off topic, sorry. :?

On topic. If you get dead on 10 hours, which i doubt as there is usually a delay. Then by the time you start messing about and having to be at the other airport 2 hours before your flight, is it worth the stress ?? You could miss you plane if delayed in london for some reason.

i'd go to an after hours event looking all fresh. perfect start to the holiday.

ramsay at claridges is on brook st cnr with davies st ...yauatcha is on broadwick st and hakasan is on hanway place or hanway st but there right

 The dim sum at Yautacha is ok (but much better at Hakkasan like you say) but Yauatacha's afternoon tea is heavenly :D

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. However, my flight's scheduled arrival time in Ibiza is 1:55 AM Monday morning. Seeing as that's too late to do anything anyways, it wouldn't wreck my holiday if something happened and I didn't get in until sometime later on Monday.

The idea of sitting in Heathrow for 7+ hours just doesn't sound exciting, ya know? I think my best plan is Heathrow > Paddington straight over to Victoria station to store luggage. Then, play time. As long as I'm on a train at Victoria three hours before my departure time, I should be OK.

I'll see how delayed (if any) my flight is that day getting into London. That will be a factor.

Thanks for the great advice, guys!

i could arrange a chauffeur to collect you at heathrow in a silver mercedes drive you around london with your luggage in the boot wait for u while you shop and eat and sightsee etc..then either drop u at gatwick express or drive you to gatwick approx £150 to drop at gatwick express £200 if you want the car to drive to gatwick

thanks for clarifying. carry on magicsalsa; bigboykarl is at your service.

Well...

...just when I thought this forum had peaked in its innate potential support to one's holiday.

Its Notting Hill Carnival on the 24th too, bear that in mind.

Could be a good thing to see if you feel up to it, or if youre at breaking point after Ibiza you might want to avoid it like the plague! (Paddington area is usually quite busy because of it)
