My short trip to Ibiza 19th - 24th September

My Review Ibiza 2011

I was just having a short stay this year of a few days in Ibiza, due to funds, and this years trip was based around Creams Closing Party.
I flew out from Gatwick on Monday 19th September, my flight was due to leave at 22:30 but in the end was delayed by over an hour (a problem with Monarch I heard)
We eventually took off and I arrived in Ibiza at about 02:30. Picked up my luggage and made my way out the front for a Taxi, to be greeted by loads of illegal taxi drivers all claiming that no legal ones would be along, wrong I said and pointed to 6 of them coming round the corner.

My first night of my stay was at the Sirensis Goleta in Playa Den Bossa, its up roughly opposite the Mare Nostrum. This 4 star hotel was well nice inside, best hotel room I've seen on the island so far. Power shower, mini bar, flat screen tv decent bed and aircon that worked. I did ponder on the idea of staying here for the rest of the week as the room was available, but decided that as I had already booked to stay at the Hostel Tarba in San An, I sacked it checked out and headed to San An the next day after only a few hours sleep.

I've never been to San An before so this partly swayed my decision to leave the Goleta. The Tarba is in the heart of San An up a side road a few hundred metres from the harbour. Upon arrival I was promptly booked in after some changes were made by the staff to my booking and I received an upgrade to a bigger room with bigger bathroom.
The room was basic with all the usual amenities, but would be fine for me as I didn't plan on staying in there much.

Tuesday
My first nightout in Ibiza was Carl Cox's Closing at Space, a club which I've never been to before, so was looking forward to the hype of the place. I was meeting some spotlighters before going into space at Marina's cocktail bar at about 8ish and was running late so got a taxi from San An straight over there. Got myself some goodies for the night and sat down at Marina's and waited for the others to turn up.
First person to join me was Hally (Phil) and a mate of his who was with him over there. While chatting someone else came up to us and this was Paul an Aussie bloke from here (can't remember his name here).
As Phil and Ben had wristbands for Space we had to head in before 11pm, so we headed over to start the party at about 10:45pm
It was heaving inside and the music was pumping out (don't know who was dj'ing). Getting around was very difficult with all the people in there, as everyone was squeezed onto the terrace area, one of the problems I suppose of going in early. There was a loud eruption of cheers and whoops and Carl Cox walked by making his may to the dj booth.
When Carl Cox came on the music went up in tempo and we had a little dance in what little area we could find, which was near the bar on the left as you go in. I was starting to feel some nice tickles from some of the goodies while we were dancing there plus there was this gorgeous woman in red who I just couldn't take my eyes off – she was gorgeous though!
Phil wanted to move to a different spot so after a long struggle to get there we arrived and found we had less room now to dance in, plus there was no gorgeous lady in red!
It was now nearing the end of Carl's set and we were all looking forward to having the main room open up. The upstaires terrace was now open so we popped up there for a chill as I was extremely hot, while up there I lagged massively and by 01:30 decided due to lack of sleep to head off back to the hotel.

Wednesday
The day of the spotlight meet at Golden Buddha, and also the pool party and after party at Es Vive Hotel with spotlights very own DJ Chewie.

I didn't sleep too well after space and was woken early by the heat and the noise from traffic driving past the hotel. I also was feeling like crap so spent the day reading my book and drifting in and out of sleep all day. At 4pm I was thinking I best get myself ready for the meet at Golden Buddha, next thing I knew its 9pm!! after a few text messages a shower and something to eat I headed off to the Buddha.
At the meet Phil, Ben and Paul were there who I went with to Space the night before and Heather and her husband Tim, and some others that Phil knew.
Really liked the feel of the Golden Buddha, nice and chilled and the drinks prices were very reasonable, might look at staying up there next year.
Had a really good time chatting with everyone and some of us got rather drunk. Heather and Tim were great, just a shame you guys had to leave when you did, would love to meet up with guys again soon.
Anyway very tired and drunk I didn't manage to get over to Hotel Es Vive, really sorry about this guys.

Thursday
Creams Closing Party 8)

Suffering with a major hangover today I chilled in bed most of the day and only ventured out in the early evening once it had cooled down a bit.
Down the road on the harbour front there are loads of food joints, all generally selling the same food but at different prices. I picked one and had a lovely lasagne garlic bread and chips followed by ice cream. Got some more goodies for the night ahead and headed back to the room to sort myself out before heading over to PDB to meet up with Phil & Ben. When I arrived at their room at 10pm, we headed over to the mare nostrum to meet another spotlighter who they had met at bora bora that day. When we got there I sat outside by the pool as I was sweating like a good un from heat and the walk over, Phil brought a drink out to me and said (as I thought) “are you comin inside?” I said “ I was staying there as it was too hot inside. Five minutes later after cooling down I went inside and the boys had gone!!! No reply via text from Phil so I headed back to Marina's and to get the Amnesia bus out to Cream. I hadnt been there long and Phil and Ben turned up so we had a few drinks and tried to make our way to Cream. First off tried getting a taxi but none were about, then we were getting offered illegals for 15 euros which I wasn't happy at paying as the bus was free so I headed off back to get the bus. I never saw Phil or Ben again so not sure if they made it to Cream or not!
When I arrived at Cream I wasn't feeling anything off the goodies I bought so felt like they must have been duds so went looking for some more once inside. I found some when I got chattin to this Italian guy, these ones were the same name as a very hyped club in Ibiza with 2 letters and number 10 in the name.
Anyway these did the trick and I was well away when Paul Van Dyke came on about 2:30 (who played a blinding set) so ended up in the main room dancing non stop until 6:30 by which time I was lagging so headed out to get a taxi back to San An. Can't remember who came on after PVD as I just didn't care, the music was pumping and I was up for it.
Outside Cream got chatting to a couple of girls who were staying at the same hotel so we shared the ride back to San An and I headed back to my room for hopefully some kip.

Friday
My last day in Ibiza :(

I only managed to get a few hours of restless sleep, and didn't want to waste my day away in my room today so got myself showered and dressed and headed down to the harbour for some breakfast.
The weather was still very nice today but didn't feel as hot as it had the rest of the week so I found it lots more comfortable to do stuff. So I went out on one of the boat cruises that are available there in the harbour. The one I chose was a 3hr trip aboard Captain Nemo which took you out the harbour and down the west coast. It was great on the trip seeing some of the island that most don't get to see. Half way round the boat stopped for a while to allow people to go swimming, and unfortunately at this point I fell asleep and never saw the rest of the trip and next thing I knew was getting woken up when we were back in San An and the boat was empty except for a couple of staff :oops::oops:

I had something to eat on the harbour front before heading back to my room to pack as I was flying out that night.

Got to the airport in plenty of time for my flight to find out once checked in that it was delayed again by over an hour (Monarch again) so had to sit in sweltering temps in the departure lounge (no aircon switched on) for about 3hrs struggling to stay awake before flying back to Gatwick.

In the 4 days I was there I had a fantastic time thoroughly enjoyed myself, the worst night for me was Carl Cox tbh, but that was because I didn't get into it properly due to being tired and buying duds I guess. Best night was Cream as it was for me last year, but I do love my trance over techno.
I also wish I had managed to meet more of the spotlighters out there, and also wish I had made more of an effort to get out a bit more during the day.
To the Spotlighters I did meet you were all great and I look forward to meeting you again.

I will be back there again next year and will be booking up as soon as possible ;)

Just as well you didn't go out in August - the heat would have had you good & proper !! :) Glad you enjoyed it and managed 1/2 a boat trip .. at least you got to see some of the nice bits ;). Eating c00kies before going to bed can make a monster sleepy in the sunshine :!:

yeah, I usually have the sweats by the time I hit the airport too ... and the shakes .. however I put it down to caffeine and alcohol overload more than the ambient air temp  As soon as the plane taxis off I usually pass out and wake up again just as the wheels hit the British tarmac !

 I wish I could, I'm so paranoid the plane is going to have "technical difficulties" I cant relax and feel every single bump and sway after take off :lol:

Sounds like you tried to do something new, which isnt always easy when as you say you like trance more so fair play but its a shame you couldnt keep going. At least the cream closing made up for it 8)

Sorry we didn't meet up a the Golden Buddha, we left before you got there. We were planing to do Carl Cox Closing, but ended up in Es Paradis on Monday night and therefore lost a bit of interest in travelling over to PDB on the Wednedsday. But from your review we are glad we missed it because it sounded far too packed.

We were in the Amnesia Terrace on the Thursday and agree that P V Dyke was excellent. We left at about 10 to 6 because we thought it would be hard getting a taxi if we left at the end (which we thought was 6, what time did it close?).

We came home on Saturday but have already started looking at booking for next year!
