My review of my first trip in 2006 - 4 June to 11 June

Here goes :)

For those of you who don't know, I use Tong's forums quite a bit, and have gotten to know a few of the regulars on it quite well through MSN. So it was pre-planned to meet up with a few of them who were going out the same time. I dragged along my mate from the office, also called Phil, after banging on about Ibiza to him when I was pished and promising to take him. 35 years old and his first ever lads holiday! I guess its easy to go without until you've been - but we all know that. So there was me and Phil, Harrison Chidlow (who's made a few posts on here in the workers section), Paul Garner and Scotty G from the Tong forums.

Id booked a car with Centauro, and since Paul had landed 10 minutes before we did, we met him at the Centauro desk inside Ibiza Airport. Before I go on I have to say how happy I was to be back in Ibiza. Been through a bit of **** recently, 16 year old doggy died, brother emigrated to San Francisco with his wife and 9 month old son as well as finding out last week my ex has actually gotten a mortgage with her new beau. Badly needed time out from normality and where better than Ibiza to get over things :)

So we headed towards San An to find the Casa Maria apartments (on Paddy Eeziglow's recommendation). Took us a couple of hours to find it, even the toy cops with their dinky noddy scooters couldn't help. We eventually found it after pretty much walking about the whole of San An. The apartments were lovely, and the staff very friendly indeed. I'd thoroughly recommend them also, I'll definately be back. Harrison met us at the hotel and we nipped out for some Vodka before having a bit of a pre-party getting to know each other kind of affair.

We eventually headed for Playa Den Bossa but the traffic stopped us getting there before six, so we opted to spend a few hours at Bora Bora first. A couple of mad hours on the beach followed - hung out with some Glaswegian dudes dressed as the 118-118 guys. Weedgie's always have good banter so it was a nice crowd to be with. Met up with Sweet_Sensation Sarah and her other half Paul, who were very nice people. Well glad I met up with them, first ever Spotlighter's I've met actually! Headed into Space and caught a bit of Digweed in the car park, but then I lost my mates so was on my own for a bit. Tried to locate that man Buckley but to no avail, so I wandered around chatting cod**** to people. It was very busy by this point - too busy to really enjoy myself. A few hours later I eventually met my friends on the new terrace and watched Smokin Jo's set which (if my memory serves me right) was class. Ame - Rej just hammered the place - it really went off when this dropped. Snogged a nice girl, but Im a bit confused what happened at that point. Everything started to go very odd and I really freaked out. Something was definately up, I was convinced every Spanish guy in there wanted to kill me for getting off with this girl.

After an hour of trying to control the paranoia it got too much and I had to leave Space. Eventually met up with my pals back in San An a few hours later (after sharing a cab with a girl who was telling me all about her butt-plug collection), and me and Harrison went out and bought ridiculously big Chuppa Chups from Wips, which at the time was the funniest thing ever  Plan was to go to DC10, so my mate Phil was having a shower but me and Harrison passed out while he was getting ready. He never thought to wake us up... Doh! :spank: Was wanting to head up later, but I just assumed it would have been too busy to really enjoy it, plus I was still a bit paranoid after the previous nights confusing events. So third trip to Ibiza and still no DC10 action (I must remedy this in September!)

Monday night we headed down to watch a sunset at Savannah, couldn't have picked a better day for it. Later on we laughed at all the knobends 'avin it large in the west end. I've actually decided I do like San Antonio as it has someting for everyone. Reckon I'll stay there in September as well. Ended up at Hush - which was great, although the DJ managed to play without ever putting on her headphones, so Im not entirley convinced it wasn't a CD playing.

Tuesday and I got a rude awakening from Scotty G from the Tong forums who had just landed that day. Once Id sobered up, we took the car out for a wee drive and ended up taking the scenic route to see Es Vedra. What a remarkably beautiful part of the world that is - got loads of pictures which unfortunately got lost later with my phone.
We came back into San An with the system blaring out some old school Ibiza classics which was very funny  One thing I've noticed about the locals is they seem to drive around with the most ridiculously bad music pumping out of their cars. We ended up back in the west end again, very drunk indeed. At some point in the night my K750i went awol together with the 2Gig Memory Stick full of all my pictures and videos from the previous two days as well as tonnes more stuff. Was wandering around the Fisherman's trying tofind it but to no avail. The realisation Id lost loads of pictures of my brother and nephew was a bit much and for some reason I headbutted a wall a few times on the way home as well as thumping another wall with my fist.

Lay in bed most of Wednesday sulking at my stupidity. Not only was I now minus a phone and plenty memories I also had 4 horrible looking cuts on my forehead and a very swollen right hand. Waited till later that evening and headed out in the car with Paul to Ibiza town. We had arranged to come back at about half 7 to meet the others for a sunset. Unfortunately, I took the wrong turn off at Ibiza town and thinking I was heading near San Antonio I was actually heading off in the direction of Portinax. Eventually ran out of road in the northwest of the island before we realised the sun wasn't anywhere near where it should be, and had a bit of a trek back down to San Antonio. Got down to the sunset cafe's but the sun was nowhere to be seen. Subliminal had their pre-party at Mambo so it was nice to get a little skek at the Pacha girls shaking their assets. Can't say the music he was playing was particularly good, but then each to their own. Yet another night of drunkenness followed. Avoided puke street and found ourselves in Kilties which was a laugh. Can't say much about that as its too incriminating! We had planned on heading up to Hush again, but for some reason it was shut, and there were a gaggle of toy cops standing outside. Warned a few muntered casualties they'd best take an alternative route, then we headed to Fisherman's again, where I proceeded to lose the only cue ball (mysterious circumstances). My first shot and the white left the table - We left not long after that!

Thursday night, and my pal Scott was on trial pr-ing for Coastline. Me and Harrison headed along to see how he was getting on, but the fact there was no sun wasn't exactly helping matters. We decided to take the car out to Ibiza Town with the others and go for a wander. The atmosphere was fantastic in and around the port and I wished that I'd spent a bit more time in the town up till then. We got back and decided against hitting the west end (which was becoming very busy with beer boys as the week progressed). Instead we decided to stay in - without saying too much we were giggling our heads off until the lack of ability to form words nevermind sentences became too much. Almost forgot to say cheerio to Paul, who's eyes now seemed glued together (despite the ear to ear grin on his face). Stayed up till the early hours listening to Ibiza Global Radio staring out of my window across the bay.

Bit of shopping on Friday as well as some beers. Didn't get up till quite late so missed the football. We wanted an early start at Mambo with the Essential Selection doing its first live broadcast. Wasn't as busy as Id expected it to be, but it was pretty good from memory. I was feeling more and more pissed, so I decided to lay off the beers for the rest of the evening, given that we had Pacha in a few hours (and I didn't wanna make a mess of my 2nd big night out). We had been told we were on the guestlist by Pete, but hadn't had a confirmation all week. We hung about and eventually passed a note to him, so once we got the thumbs up we headed off (not before my pal Phil met him and mistook him for Dave Pearce - ). Discobus to Pacha with Scott's flatmate Kiely in tow.

Went for a quick drink before heading round to Pacha. Must say I had the "butterflies" given it was my first visit to Pacha. For a minute or two we thought we weren't on the guestlist, as we'd all given our full names. But I asked the door guy to look under FatphilB and right enough, there I was, as were the others. We walked around for a bit before heading down to catch Laurent Garnier. Danced around for a good bit but I headed back upstairs for some air. Had a massage off an Ibiza Angel named Carli (well worth 10 euro's - cheapskate that I am!). Thought I'd nip to the toilet on the terrace as it didn't seem busy, and had a bizarre encounter with Pete Tong as we both waited for the sh!tter to become free. Introduced myself and to my suprise he recognised the name and asked if we had gotten in okay. Very nice down to earth bloke as Im sure most of you know anyway. Headed back down for the rest of Laurent Garnier's set which was fantastic. Suppose he must always do this, but he finished on TMWTRF, the extremely long version which seems to go on for ages.

Pete came on and dropped loads of big party tunes as can be expected, but it was still a fun time, and I have to say I loved the set he played. Met another Spotlighter from Edinburgh called BellaB who was dancing like a maniac just in front of us!

Stayed till the finish then discobussed it home again, then went for a couple of beers on the rocks at Coastline with Harrison and Kiely. Few drinks on Saturday night but nothing too OTT given we had to get our hirecar back to the Airport the next day. Funnily enough, almost missed our flight but got walked through check-in by one of the walkie talkie guys. Just in time to grab the obligatory Pacha t-shirt before getting an urgent call to go to our gate.

All in all a great holiday. Due to the fact there weren't many clubnights on I was interested in, it didnt seem to be so much about the music. But I made some really good friends out there, and I can't wait to go back out in September.

I've not got many photo's as I obviously lost my phone but I hope to get others as my friends upload them. Thanks for reading anyhow!

C'est moi!

Nice review Phil!! Glad you enjoyed staying at the Casa Maria- the best value place to stay that I've found on the island! Sorry you took so long to find it- if you'd asked I'd have helped with directions before you went (it's right by San Antonio Church).

good work fella

those angel girls are great arent;t they. if im remember rightly for you 10 euros you also get a big glass of water off them after the massage, so its a cheap as a bottle of the stuff at the bar!

I bought one of the massagers over here. Such a good invention!

thanks guys...

paddy, i roughly knew where it was, but theyve closed off the street which goes up from wips, and theres a lot of roadworks affecting the layout at the minute. no problem though, my one gripe was that they took till 4 to have my room ready to move in, which obviously caused problems for getting to space in time for passouts. in the end, it turns out we were better off without them anyway!

russ - girl was stunning :p unfortunately no water though. the massage did sort me right out though. knocked the offer back in space last year, so i figured id have to try it. i'll get one again for sure.

Great review 8) Can't wait to go now!

He's a good bloke isn't he? I'll say hi for you. I think the Casa Maria is one of the best kept secrets in Ibiza for cost vs quality. If some people weren't so snobby about staying in San Antonio they could do themselves a real favour by staying there.

Matt T, when you going to be there? See my sig for my dates.

Great review! 8) <------ my sunnies

I hope u learn from the wrongs u did and use these conclusions in your September vacation!
