My review of 18 to 25 June.
Friday 17
Got to Holiday in Express at Glasgow airport. It busy, you forget about others travelling and think you should be the only ones ever to be going on holiday. Had a few alcoholic refreshments and went to bed around 1am. I was like a kid before Christmas and was up again at 0340 sitting patiently with my suitcase watching the planes coming into land on the runway
Saturday 18
Checked in for flight and had a quick shifty round duty free and then straight to the bar. Was not even half way through my pint and we were called for boarding. God do I get bored on flights. Even the hostesses get a bit pissed off when you end up staring at them for entertainment. Glad Ibiza is not any further away than it is! Anyway flight landed 20 mins early but why o why do people insist on clapping/cheering when the plane lands???? :x
Took (fast) taxi to Rosamar Apartments and was nice surprised with our accommodation. All marble and glass etc. Our room was not ready so we had to have a drink at the bar while we waited for 10 mins. When we got into our apartment we had beds for 6, 3 balconies, 2 W/C showers, sofa and nice small fitted kitchen and there was only 2 of us! Was not long before we headed to the shops and stocked up on the essentials and out sunbathing on our massive balcony. The weather was fab so headed over to the strip for sunset. Got there about 8pm. It was busy but not as busy as September is. Lots of locals with kids and dogs etc. Still had a nice atmosphere about the place. Sat outside Ray de Copas and the sunset was awesome, one of the best I have ever seen 8) . Walked back to the bay having drinks at Orange Corner (very quiet) and food in Du Na’s (really slow service). Early night was had in preparation for space.
Sunday 19
After an average breakfast at the apartments we bought our tickets for We Love opening at Space. Cracked open a bottle of Veterano to calm down our excitement . Got a taxi about 2pm. I think we only passed about 5 other cars on the motorway? The Danish woman taxi driver told is traffic was normally quiet on Sunday?? Arrived in the car park at space with neither a que or civil Guardia in site. Into Space to be greeted with the new temporary terrace to the left. It’s ok but think the older one was better as there was more areas to walk around and sit for a bit. The terrace was really busy so we proceed to go inside for a bit as it was taking us a while to adapt to the heat . Inside was the usual pretty quiet but there was a bit of shape throwing going on! Went back out onto the terrace and embraced the crowds and the heat of the terrace. Jonathan Ulysses was on but that air horn was annoying? Later we moved up to Premier Entage for a bit and sat in the sun while some 80’s tunes were being played . The sounds from the terrace were too good to keep me away so we headed back and danced away until about 8.30pm. By this point Kaz was not feeling too great . To be honest I think a combination to much alcohol before we got there, too much sun and possibly not enough water was enough to make her feel sick/faint. We left space and took a taxi back to our apartment where Kaz went straight to bed . Our trip to space was cut short and never got to use our passes out or go to Bora Bora but I am going back in September. The next time I go to Space we will just go later in the evening about 10pm and stay right through . This dancing in the heat malarkey take its toll
Monday 20
After a good nights sleep it was out for a walk in the blazing sun. Went shopping at Suma supermarket – if you ever stay in San An Bay then shop here, its far cheaper than the local shops who charge what they like. Again spent the rest of the afternoon sun bathing on our balcony accompanied with a few drinks. Had a some food at Playa Bella a pretty average beach front restaurant.
Got ready for going to see the S man at Pacha. Was really looking forward to the opening of Release Yourself. Got ready and noticed our apartment looked onto the Mardi Gras in San An bay with coaches going to and fro. Just before we were about to leave for Pacha we were watching the pissed crowds leave the Mardi Gras into their coaches. It was at this point when we caught site of our nuaghty neighbours downstairs getting ‘jiggy with it’ on their balcony! I was never one to consider myself much of a ‘voyeur’ but we could not tear ourselves away from the free live sex show before our eyes . To this day I am not sure how they did not hear us sniggering! We could not look at the couple for the rest of the holiday without sniggering/giggling.
Anyway got taxi to Pacha and pissed ourselves laughing about the earlier antics. Got to Pacha at 1am and there was no que or nothing. Got inside it was really quiet. The club was decorated nicely with coloured lighting suspended throughout the club with pics of the S man and his logo. Had a wander about to get my bearings again. I still find it easy to get lost in that place! Had a few drinks on the roof terrace which IMO is still a beautiful setting 8) , shame about the smell in Ibiza town though . Finally found the ‘funky lounge’ but was not impressed so headed back to the main room where I remained for the rest of the night. The s man delivered. He is definitely a crowd pleaser and I had a fantastic night. Pacha was busy but you could still get from one end of the club to the other if you used all the stairs/mezzanine levels. Can’t wait to go back to see him in September 8)
Tuesday 21
Took the water taxi across to town and had a look around the shops where I bought myself a hat . We walked all the way back round the bay and back to our apartment for the rest of the afternoon in the sun. Gave Defected at Pacha a miss so in the evening we took a taxi back over to town and headed to Kanya for some food. Kanya was fairly quiet this year but it had a good mix of ages in the place. Nice to see the cute little waitress working again there this season. Ordered Malaysian spiced chicken with sweet potato and Kaz had meat balls with Spaghetti washed with some Rose and the food was really good 8) . After we moved onto Sunsea Bar which was a little busier than normal. Nice new cocktail bar in the shape of a boat in the shallow pool. Coastline was not busy so we gave that a miss. Then moved onto Savannah we were took seats at a table outside. Waited ages on our drinks to be served . The service here is really slow. It was busy but no where near as busy as Mambo. It was mobbed as it was Defected pre-party. Moved onto Orange Corner for some sangria and got there about 1am and they were not serving any more as they were getting ready to close . So moved onto Bay Bar. It had been ages since I had been there and it was quite busy so had a few drinks in there. Eventually we then moved on to Pinks (Pink Panther) in the bay where I met up with Vikkims from Spotlight and her friend Jules – lovely funny people. We sat outside and I think I had too many JD’s. We all stayed till closing then literaly crawled back to our apartments .
Wednesday 22
After brunch we took a walk along the coast to Port des Torrent. It was really hot and constantly had to stop at shops for drinks/water. Discovered the restaurant Can Pujol (sp?). We did not get time to go here but will do it in September. Port des Torrent beach is nice but it was fairly busy.
In the evening we headed into San An and got tickets for Garlands – bargain only €15 + free drink. Had a couple of drinks in Bar M and then had a quick one in Café Paradis . I had not been in this place for ages. Still it was nice to reminisce on previous nights in there few years back. Got into Eden about 2am and the main dance floor was surprisingly busy . Was surprised to see the whole club open (with the exception of upstairs as usual). I had a really good night, the music was great and it was Ibiza calssics in the back room 8) . My only complaint was too many chavs going about in shorts and stripy tops . I had to remind myself that I was in Eden in San Antonio.
Thursday 23
Had some breakfast at La Bahia and headed for the water taxi to town. Sat outside Savannah while dipping out feet in the water 8) . Today was the hottest day so far. The thermometer gage thing in town said 39c We went to the Pacha shop in the west end where I got a nice print for home and Kaz bought this cheeky little hand bag – how much merchandise is Pacha pushing these days? Popped into Megamusic and purchased out tickets for Cream opening at Amnesia.
We got a taxi to Amnesia, the woman driver was really freaky. When we got in the cab there was €9 on the meter. I started quizzing her about this and she did not like it. She said this was the price at night. Soon after her mobile went off and she pulled over to take the call and left the meter running. Whenever I asked about the fare she say ‘Ah you too funny’. We then stopped at a junction and it was clear there was no traffic coming yet she still sat there!? I think she the one ‘too funny’. Anyway cab pulled up outside Amnesia. The parking attendants started giving her a hard time about where she stopped to drop us off and they started arguing. So I threw money at her and left the cab quickly.
Got into Amnesia and the main room was filled nicely. Got a drink and made my way to underneath the main DJ Booth. How friendly were the people in Amnesia? After we hear Prodigy ‘Outer Space’ being dropped we soon moved through to the terrace where I spent most of the night. Spoke to many randoms including a couple of newly weds and danced by that camel. It was not my best night at Cream but still had a good night.
Friday 24
My last full day on the island. We spent most of the day shopping buying presents/ bottles/fags etc. Got back to the apartments and catched the remaining rays. Vikkims & Jules came round and made use of our apartment as they were preparing for their flight home that night.
In the evening we went to Java restaurant. We both ordered the fillet of steak which was cooked to perfection 8) . After we went for a farewell drink with Vikkims and Jules and saw them off to their taxi to the airport looking rather sad . Kaz and I went back to the apartment and packed our cases before emptying another bottle of veterano on the balcony then to bed.
Saturday 25
Checked out our room and went down to Rumi’s for some breakfast. It’s aint fun sitting in the sun when you got your jeans on We went back to Rosamar and stayed in the air conditioned lounge and improvised our own ‘What’s on welcome meeting’ telling an empty room to get down to Space in the morning! Finally got taxi back to the airport and I smiled all the way there knowing that it won’t be long until I am back in September. Spent my few remaining €’s on some Heirbas in the airport shop and ate a nasty burger king before boarding the plane . As we boarded the sun was just setting over the hills 8) . The plan took off in a north easterly direction. We could see the whole island and was easy to spot Talamanca beach, Cala Llonga, St Eulalia and we could even see the sun setting across the island by San Antonio. Even Es Vedra was visible with a little mist round it.
This was my 6th visit to the island and I love it there more than ever, still to do Fomentera but will do when I am back on the island in 8 weeks time, so bring on the closing parties!
