Went from September 1 to September 8 with three other mates and this was my 4th consecutive year since 2008.
Thursday.
Got to our hotel (Hotel Rita, San An) at about midday and had already been drinking pre and during the flight so were already getting in the mood and headed straight out for our first day. The first beer always seems to be at the legendary Orange Corner and this year was no different; then we went to Itaca, Plastik, the Hedkandi bar and finally decided it was time to hit/brave the West End. We had a couple of Miguel's in The Boozer and a game of pool but unfortunately my memory goes a bit hazy after that. One of my mates ended up being sick all down the West End though and apparently we were drinking blue cocktails in one bar and chasing the female bar owner round the joint asking her every question under the sun about her large breasts? Not a very respectable start to the holiday and to our horror we saw this bar owner again on the 4th day in another bar and she remembered us - luckily she more than saw the funny side!
On the night we went to Cream Amnesia, my favourite night on the island, and Above & Beyond smashed the place up with a mix of harder and their more trademark progressive stuff. They probably provided my Ibiza highlight when they dropped Sun and Moon as the place went crazy and I could have died and gone to heaven at that moment. Sander van Doorn then took control and provided a harder, more techy vibe to the main room. He dropped Koko which sent people bouncing and as usual Cream didn't fail to deliver and the Mixmag Terrace was good too. Left about 6am after more than 26 hours without sleep and looking back that was an eventful first day.
Friday.
In the day we took the short walk up the coast to Kanya Beach Bar where we had about six buckets of Estrella Damm throughout the day whilst laying by the pool and catching some rays, which was far easier this year as the weather for this time of year was a lot hotter than usual (34/35oC). For some reason, instead of buying proven sun cream my mate decided to purchase this "Chocolate based" brand and to be honest it was like applying cake mixture to your body - good if you're in the bedroom with an attractive lady maybe, but not so good if you're trying to prevent sunburn.
On the night we headed to the classy Ibiza Town where we had a few overpriced, but enjoyable beers, and then paid our 47 euro for It's all gone Pete Tong at Pacha. Felix Da Housecat was warming the place up when we arrived at about 2am and then Tongy, who I've never been a big fan of or seen before, completely smashed the place to bits. He was brilliant and played techy house stuff that I'd never ever heard of. The energy was still rocking at 7.20am when he finally called it a night and we got back to the hotel at roughly 8am after a great feast of EDM.
Saturday.
This was the day we'd been looking forward to the most. The Zoo Project - a first time event for us as we always seem to miss it. We all got our animal t-shirts on, I went for a Gold Racoon (I probably looked ridiculous), and headed out for some beers before getting to Zoo about 7pm. It was like a mini festival and the whole place was mesmerising - not to mention the women who all looked like they had fallen from heaven! The pool area was surreal, the Seal Pit is mental and (I think) we saw the likes of Motorcitysoul, Jonathan Tena and Federico Grazzini who all played the best minimal/tech house I've ever heard - it was fab and a shame it doesn't go on past midnight! We got back to the hotel and me and one other decided we were still up for going out so we headed to Tropi on the West End - which plays hard trance all night long and is (in my opinion) the best bar on that strip. We also got talking to an Irish DJ who is best mates with Bryan Kearney and he took our number and said he could get us free entry into events at Tripod in Dublin which was very cool. Unfortunately we decided to literally neck pint after pint of vodka redbull though before ending up in another bar and (somehow) staggering back to our hotel at 6.30am - but not before we'd taken some very strange pictures of us on a random moped.
Sunday.
Due to the previous nights antics this was easily the worst day - spent most of it in bed feeling like I was about to die Managed to make it out to the Mambo area just after sunset (typical!) and ate our traditional Peppercorn chicken meal at Kanya which we seem to have every year now. We also met Judge Jules, by chance, who was there for a meet and greet session and although I think he's a pretty **** DJ he seemed a sound guy in person and gave us a free, signed CD so that was good. Then we ventured a bit further past Kanya and found a really nice bar called the Golden Buddha which served ice-cold Estrella for only 3 euro so we stayed in there until after 4am - mega chilled out place and great for recovering from three days of madness.
Monday.
For some reason unknown to me, we didn't go to Playa D'en Bossa last year so we headed there after getting up and spent the day drinking and chilling in the sun round there. We were amazed by the pure white beds on the beach outside Ushuaia and decided to have a lie down - imagine our reaction when, after 5 minutes, we were told we'd have to pay 150euro and buy a bottle of champagne to stay there! Not my sort of budget unfortunately! We then went to Bora Bora Beach Bar for some banging techno and it really was banging - and far louder than when I went two summers ago - which made for an even better atmosphere with everyone bouncing at each drop and dancing on the tables and chairs etc. Only downside was the pints of San Miguel which tasted like Stella Cidre, either that or my taste buds were going downhill by then! Stayed there till about 10pm and went back to San Antonio for something to eat and more drinks until a relatively early night at 4am.
Tuesday.
I can't actually remember what we did in the daytime (must have been good) but on the night we headed to Playa D'en Bossa again for Full on Ferry with Ferry Corsten and Sied van Riel at Sankeys - and. it. was. unreal. 20 euro in, including two shots, and the club is exactly like the one in Manchester: small, hot and underground. Ferry smashed it and then the pair from Rotterdam went b2b for half an hour at which point the music got even better - both were trying to out-do the other and the tunes were coming and coming. Shook hands with both of them and had photos and SvR is possibly the funniest DJ on the scene right now, he just gets ****ered at every event. He was smoking a fag every 5 minutes and downing shots of Jaigermiester and glasses of champagne like no tomorrow - and his music was pure thumping! Left at 6am after another crazy (and extremely sweaty) night.
Wednesday.
Last day and we took the 4 euro return boat to the other side of San An bay where we drank Estrella in the beach bar and Regae Bar all day, relaxing to the sounds of Bob Marley and Co. Watched the England game in The Pink Panther (very touristy I know) but it was 2 euro a pint so we couldn't refuse! Then got a taxi to PDB again for Tiesto at Ushuaia which was also an event I'd really been looking forward to, for the venue more so than the DJ. The hotel is amazing and totally worth a visit, it's quite surreal really especially with planes flying overhead all night. Tiesto was Tiesto - really good in parts and completely dross and commercial in others. But we made it right to the front and the atmosphere was really good until the last 20 minutes when some MC decided to talk over the tunes and tell us to "put our hands in the air" ect, a pet hate of mine at events But all in all it was still a quality event!
Early flight Thursday (or it would have been until it was delayed for 4 hours) and now I'm home repeatedly scrolling through my pictures and wishing I was still there! Sorry for the essay guys and thanks to those of you who took the time to read. As I mentioned on another thread, Ibiza 2011 seemed more crazy than usual and the island more buzzing as a whole. I don't know if you agree as I've only been coming for 4 years?
Roll on 2012... Other people might think I'm sad for always going back, but those people have obviously never been to the White Isle
