Here goes my review - 3rd time in Ibiza for me, 4th for the missus.
This time the trip was going to a lot different this time as I got engaged to my long term girlfriend.
First up we had a slight delay on the Monarch flight - no worries there - When we arrived at Ibiza airport we tried to find the Moto Luis attendant as we had pre booked car hire. Eventually he arrived and was a bit pissed that we were late (I explained the late plane etc) but he wasnt very happy at all and was going to leave. I was a bit annoyed at his attitude to be honest, especially since the reviews had been so positive, but we remained cool as he handed over the keys. I was prepared to hand over 10EURO or so for him staying late but he then said it would be 12EURO (ok, fine) plus another 25 EUROS. I thought this was a bit expensive as I could have got a taxi and come back for the car in the morning (we landed at 1-2am) In any case we just got on with it.
On arrival to Jabeque (a place we had stayed at before) we found we hadn't been assigned a room. We got a hastily made up room with broken air con for the first night, but to their credit they arranged at 11am the next day to have our assigned room ready for us.
Monday
I decided on the Monday to got to Salinas and I proposed in a small space near a lovely small tree! - I wanted something a bit stripped back than a big meal and attention etc. Anyway its Clare's favourite beach and it all went smoothly. We got a celebratory glass of Champers at Sa Trinxa and then we went for lunch at the Jockey club which I have never been to (also happened to be my birthday) I choose the scallops with a noodle side and Clare chose the beef - very good food and good portions, plus we got the best seat in the house and the staff made a real effort. We also got a complimentary Salinas CD and the bill only came to 80EURO with drinks - Recommended.
We then decided to go completely decadent and go to KM5 - I had probably the best steak I have ever had there. Wood fired furnace must have helped the flavour and the beast was amazingly cooked. Clare went for the duck confit, which was so crispy - We dropped about 130EURO's here but it was well worth it. Service was good and the overall ambience of the bar was brilliant. This was the another highlight for me.
Tuesday
This was going to be our club night\day, so we headed to Plage D'Elephant and attended the Cocoon Afters - Sven was playing and he really was kicking out the beats when we got there at 1pm. It was also free, and whilst drinks were expensive, you saved on the entrance fee. Great day- We then refuelled at Figs at the Tapas place run by the Dutch guy. Food was adequate but since we were on a budget was perfect 16 EURO for 3 plates and a few drinks - exceptional value. - then on to Es Vive for a little party with some great special guests!- The finish at 6am said it all and we dragged our tired bodies to bed
Wednesday and Friday
Recovery time of course and then travelled to Portanix, and had a great fish meal at the far end of the town - I think its called Le Peutro? I had a lovely dish of Mussels and Sardines and Clare had a Pizza.
Another meal we had was in Ibiza Town at Gusto Gusto - A really smart pasta place with a variety of sauces, again on the budget side and well worth a look.
On the Friday we went from San Antonio through to all the bays down to Es Vedra - Es Vedra is a fantastic sight that is for sure, really moody day as well - well worth a visit.
On Thursday - we treated ourselves to a day out at Atzaro - 110 EURO got us a superb healthly lunch, use of the spa facilities and a 50min full body massage. Totally worth it (many thanks to those who recommended this to me)
Few things I observed when I was there this year was crowd seem a lot younger than previous closings - or maybe this is because I am getting older! Plenty of new ravers? We didnt do the bigger clubs this year so I assume they were packed? Our hotel was more than doubly busy as were other hotels in the area - Financial Crisis?
Getting a car is so worth it! 8)
