My New mix - November 2006

Right, now the thing is, I'm knocking out loads of tough, underground mixes every week now, under various different guises (which I like to keep anonymous for obvious reasons) which is nice for my musical mind, and stretch me further as an artist, though (and I assume we've all been there) my close pals, just plain don't like 'em.

Which is somewhat of a dilemma.

Now it's no secret that my historical musical appreciation is somewhat more balanced towards the more overt avenues of the genre we call house music. Whilst I'm not ashamed of it, I wholeheartedly appreciate it has crippled me with a terminal sense to liking sh1t music.

I can, however, defend myself with the memory it was merely a product of a clubbing childhood surrounded by like minded people, having far too much fun to actually concentrate on developing my musical tastes.

So then here we are today. Whilst I can, with great confidence, proclaim to the world (not to mention myself) I have moved on from the earlier days of vocal abandonment, it would be a lie akin to that of Mr Orange Juice Simpson to say I've lost the skill, nay gift I was blessed with all those years ago. Furthermore I simply don't hate the world enough to keep this gift to myself.

If we retrace our footsteps back to my friends. My pals. My crew. The people I grew up with. The greatest group of individuals known to man, with the achilles heel that is an affection to soulful, vocal, funkybutnotfunky house music. Now I have tried education. I have tried Ibiza post 2004, but they just wont have it. And with each underground (be it tech, minimal, prog) mix I do and wave it in front of them, like our legal friend Julian, they just won't budge.

So after years of relentless pestering, I have relented. Being the good friend I am, I dusted off my soulful, funkybutnotfunky, disco and vocal mp3's, and had a little play.

And with every syncopated kick drum, every "hand up yeah/I love you" vocal, every "Introduction to Music Production: Week 1: Lesson 1" baseline, the only words that echoed round my head were the words "Still", "Got", and "It" (in that order).

If nothing else it was an exercise in self-boosting. Knowing that kids can spend years, no, decades on decks and not be able to do what I do. Knowing that if the Government was serious on education, and serious on music, then they would implement a policy to distribute this cd (like a telegram to people reachig 100) to all children when the reach the age of 15.

But then that would suggest you could learn this. Suggest, it could be somehow taught. Which is as bigger scientific fallacy not seen since the ages when we thought the world was flat, and the Sun orbited around Planet earth.

So, following a resounding thumbs up from my contemporaries, declerations their lives will never be the same again, stories of revolutionary road-to-damascus-esque promises to worship in future at the alter that is my CDJ's, I will share it with you.

A sheer act for no personal gain, pure benevolence and charity. A deed that should encourage hope in all of us that faith in mankind as we know it, is not lost, nor forgotten.

It's got funk(y), it's got soul(ful), hell it's even got a (original, untouched) disco track in. It's got classics that would sound too audacious in any other mix (though sit naturally here), and upfront tunes not even the producers that make the tunes themselves have yet.

Don't call it a comeback, people, I've been here for years.

Can't download at client's office Danielsan. Will do so, and read the blurb:lol: , tonight!

I heard the original Angie Stone '....Anymore' in Jongleurs of all places on Sat. Love it (and the Pounds Boys mix). Like all music you'll always remember it evokes a certain time in my life.

*Our Tune Music plays*....We'll call him Buckley, he was 27 at the time and had just finished with his gf of 7 years, whom he'd known for 12...
