my Ibiza and the west end

Hi Guys

Just got back from two weeks in Ibiza last saturday. Had the time of my life 8O but as you can imagine feeling quite depressed at the mo

I went with a mate who for him was his 5th time and my first. the best nights we had i'd say when it all came togerther was the radio 1 night at space and seeing deep dish @ pacha. Manumission i've got to say was a bit of a let down, although i was expecting a lot having heard so much about it, i had been warned it wasn't what it once was. Still, i enjoyed the night, although my mate was very disappointed compared with previous years! The best part i thought was when they opened this small room we discovered somewhere at the back called Coco Loco anyone know anything more about this??? the music was amazing!

What I really wanted to know was anybodys thoughts and opionins on the West End. We stayed in the Gran Sol Near Kanya and used to pass through the west end for a couple on our way out elsewear. I was quite surprised how quiet it was down there for most nights and how young. My mate says he's seen that street packed out most other times he's been. Although the west end wasn't to be the main part of our holiday i was surprised to find it so quiet. Is there a lack of that british beer boy culture in ibiza now? with more people spending time and the chill out bars instead?

I'd be interested in anybodys thoughts and opinions.

Many Thanks

Hi Ant

Glad you had a good hols, I take it you'll be returning next year :D

Re the West End, I've never been to any of the pubs and bars down there but there have been a lot of posts this year saying it's been quieter than normal. Also San Antonio is trying to change it's image, away from the Beer Boy culture that was really big a few years back on the back of Ibiza Uncovered.

will definitely be going back!! but might make it two week long trips rather than two weeks all in one go next time. :D

the only thing i dont like about the west end is the first main run where theres about a thousand pr's hounding you! bar that, it doesnt bother me at all, i like going to the scottish bar to get some cheap booze b4 hitting pussycats to get the bus to the clubs,

theres no denying there is alot of 'beerboys' as people call them but the 5 years ive been ive only saw 1 fight and that was some big spanish guy laying into his wife! 8O

i saw one outside the mexican restaraunt this year and again it was locals fighting each other, most of the people in the west end are just ordinary people having a laugh with their mates, just the occasional getting too drunk

i think all the people who constantly slate it are just plain snobs! :D

I'm not a fan of the West End- too many younger people for me, but my mate Oscar has a bar there so I spent a bit of time there this year. Wasn't too bad, was much quieter than I've EVER seen it though.

Hiya
I didnt really think much of the west end atall-the only bar I went to was Amsterdam bar cos it was cheap and chearful.
Went to a couple of the smaller clubs for a laugh to listen to some cheesey music-great laugh!

I hate the abuse you get from the ppl that ask you to come in for drinks, when you politley tell them 'no thanks not tonight' with a smile etc and yet they still have the balls to be sarcy or aggressive as you walk past them, same with the flyer people

Ant,
How was the Gran Sol? I'm staying there from Saturday.

Can't Complain. I think it's really good value for money, very clean. The foods quite basic but you get a good choice. To be honest it's one of the best hotels i've stayed in for the money. A good mixture of family's and europeans, not full of Brits ( which i found quite refreshing) it's also in a really good location, eg near coastline and mambo and not too far from the west end.

Have a wicked time mate!! if you want to know anything else let us know :D

Exactly!

I spent 10 days in Ibiza at the end of July, each night going to the West End, and I can't see what everyone's problem with it is. For me, the only gripes are some of the PR's, and the looky looky men, other than that I thought it wasn't bad at all.

I agree about the first main run being awash with PR's, it's a bit like that game in Gladiators, where they had to run through a tunnel evading 5 Gladiators, one after the other. Fob one off and then there's another one in your face. But in the scheme of things, its only a minor irritation.

I thought the drink prices were pretty reasonable though, and there were some decent offers in some of the bars. I also thought there was a fair bit of variation in the style of bars.

I didnt notice much of a beerboy culture at all, in fact the biggest presence I noticed there was of posers with mulletts, wearing flip flops

Didnt see any fighting either, which was good.

So, the West End, it aint all that bad, people should give it a chance!
