Well this trip had been a long time coming after not stepping on the glorious White Isle (not the Isle of Wight as a confused friend seemed to think!) since 2003. Last minute cheapness led to desperate pleas to our bosses and thankfully the hard work paid off - within the week we were off 8)
6am flight combined with excitement meant that no sleep was had, but the drinks had started to flow before the taxi to the airport arrived - well and truly in the holiday 'spirit'! Got checked in and an hour delay announced, so off to the departure lounge bar for some breakfast and bloody marys, this then proved to be a nightcap and we managed to get an hour or so's sleep on the way. It has been said so many times in these reviews, but you really can't beat stepping off the plane, the heat hits you and you can almost 'smell' Ibiza. Got to San Antonio Bay and the Club Monterray apartments - bit of a nightmare as they are situated up a hill from the beach, but overall about a half hour walk round to the Egg, and 10 mins to the nice n cheap water taxi, which we loved . Nice pool area, but room decor was a bit rough around the edges. Only other downfall was the plethora of British style family pubs in the area, but we knew that this part of the bay was geared towards that market so cannot complain.
Headed out straight away and had a nice lunch in the beach bar across from the Marina Playa apartments before realising that we were getting burnt already!
Popped back to see our rep and check ticket prices and bought Meganite closing and asked about Cocoon as we had obviously seen the extortionate price they were advertised for. Rep was unawares and told us the price was 45E - result!
We hopped on the water taxi and headed to San An for some dinner and drinks. Straight back to a place we had fantastic tapas in last time we were over, I think it is called Bombadou (sp). Unsure of the street name but is beside a nursery I think and looks down to the sea over the 'desert' at the back of Mambo. Once again food didn't disappoint, I had amazing meatballs and patatas bravas (this place does the best I have ever had!) and H had a lovely homemade lasagne. Nice local atmosphere with everyone inside enjoying the football. We then headed down to the cafes at the fountains for a couple of cocktails (and a perv at the Eden girls for H ) and then off to the discobus to head to Privelage.
Although my 5th trip, this was my first trip to Privelage - the only club I had not been to. Night was good, but tiredness from the day began to show Main reason for going was to see Misstress Barbara, but she was a no show, Fergie made a surprise appearance and I think it was Athos who played instead (very good!), but I retreated to Coco Loco for some respite while H boshed on Was great to go, but perhaps in hindsight would have went for original plan of Subliminal.
Lazy day followed and sleep catch up before some poolside sunbathing and at night we hunted down Tijuana for some dinner. As soon as the doors closed behind us the heavens opened and it was almost like a river falling from the sky - the decor only added to the atmosphere, and then some when there was a power cut!! Luckily the Sangria had just arrived! Power back not long after and onto the food - nachos, stuffed jalepenos, chicken quesadillas and chicken burrito. Was quite nice, but was a bit disappointed after reading good reviews. Gave the impression of a chain restaurant that you would get over here. Few drinks following and then a relatively early night - well I passed out much to H's annoyance
On Friday we decided to head along the coast and sample Cala Bassa - gorgeous beach where we spent the day sunbathing and swimming in the lovely clear blue sea. In the evening we took the obligatory vodka limon 'kit' and went off down to the rocks beside Kumharas for a fantastic sunset - walking back proved to be a trek over the rocks, but with a few stops for assorted 'refreshments' to aid the hunger and we eventually found the water taxi . Had a fantastic dinner at the Curry Club in the evening – this place is just beautiful and the food fantastic, was all very romantic. Had a couple of cocktails and then back to the apartment for a private party! Had a good laugh listening in to our neighbours being chatted up by some rather lairy English guys and enjoyed the wonders of Star Wars Top Trumps. This was the downfall with the apartments, we really like to be able to head back and forth easily to the beach etc, but we felt a bit isolated.
As we had been relatively well behaved we decided to make our own wee adventure on the Saturday. Suitably armed we headed off to Bora Bora for a bit of sunbathing and daytime dancing. Stopped in at Passion (great tip Barbie!) for a smoothie and chat to the lovely people who work in there – was very refreshing after some of the grumps we had encountered that day! Then off we went on the bus to IbizaTown for an interesting walk and explore around Dalt Villa and to take in the lovely views at dusk – was gorgeous. Chilled out with a cocktail at Mambo bar, harbourside before heading back over to San An. Popped into Wips to grab a beer and think we lost about 2 hours outside it! Off up to Savannah to enjoy the music from the beach then indoors for a dance until our bodies cried ‘home’.
Seaside and pool sunbathing on Sunday afternoon and for the only time ate local – Amsterdam Restaurant. Full Spanish dinner for tonight – sangria, bread, olives, alioli, garlic prawns and seafood paella. Way too much for the 2 of us, but we spent plenty of time giving it a go! Couple of coffees with brandy and cointreau and we were both happy campers!!
Monday was all about Cocoon Closing Party – fantastic night, made all the sweeter by our cheaper tickets. Richie Hawtin was warming up nicely when we arrived, but the place was packed! Found a good spot on the right on the raised up area where we met some fantastic, friendly people including a group a lovely Spanish from Madrid, some DC10 casualties from Aberdeen and also a lone clubber from Englandshire!! Great atmosphere and time just disappeared, before we knew it we were flagging and headed for the bus thinking we were leaving early, until we realised it was 8.20 – glad to hear we didn’t miss much apart from the rush to the bus! Bumped into an old friend from home at Wips and spent a bit of time on the beach scaring the early sunbathers, before the surrealness got too much and we headed to bed!
Last night we took in the sunset on the rocks down at Coastline – so lovely and peaceful and perfect ending to great week. Dinner in the new look Kanya and a few drinks before losing track of time again (doesn’t this always happen!?) and heading home to pack and finish all of our various supplies. This resulted in trying to grab an hours sleep before being picked up. Awoke to find that we had missed that bus by an hour and a half, frantic race to grab a taxi may have paid off if the driver was racing so much to get us, but in fact ended up arriving at the airport 5 mins before take off! Nothing for it but to laugh and enjoy the mystery tour to Newcastle, the adventure getting a hire car and the rather hairy drive home in every salesmans dream – a Mondeo Estate 2l TD!!
Had an amazing time and enjoyed a good mix of food, drinks, parties and sun – as I result I have the best tan post-Ibiza that I have ever had
