My first visit was in '99, the year of trance as Paul Oakenfold once said....the year they filmed Kevin and Perry Go Large in Amnesia, Bullet in the Gun, System F, daytime cludding at Space and all that game. I went in September with an ex-girlfriend, and I'll always remember that while we were stood outside Bar M looking out into the bay you could see an electric storm in the distance...the sky lit up with every flash...it just felt magical and I knew at that moment I had fallen in love with the place, and would be back again....
Fast forward 13 years, and 10 visits later, and here we were back again, with 9 other like-minded souls, for another trip to place we all call our second home. My first 6 or 7 visits were always spent in San An, in varying levels of accomodation, but recently we have morphed over to PDB where we feel it is an older more cospmopolitan crowd and closer to all the places we want to be. Every year we say that this is the last stop on the disco train and will we get off? But we never do! lol
First day of the trip we went down to Bora Bora on the Sunday...Bora Bora is definately best on a Sunday due to the pre-We-Love crowd heading over for a boogie before going over to Space. Busiest I've seen it for a while, wicked atmosphere, great start to the holiday. Well and truly lubricated we all piled into a cab to get over to San An for the sunset...sh*t, overpriced meal at Mint (next to Mambos, 15e for a stale burger!)...but great sunset and some nice sangria. Left here about 11 and went down to Ibiza Rocks bar as had not been here since it was Bar M. Judge Jules was on...felt a bit old but by this time was slaughtered and didnt care....good end to the night...oh, almost forgot, got dragged onto the bloody bungee rocket as no-one else would go on and there was a girl in our party who really fancied it....cost 25e for about 1 minute of having your eyes shut! Not worth it...but was a laugh...
Monday - Pool all day at the Ebano....this hotel is such great value for money, honestly don't think there can be a better hotel in PDB for what you get for your money. Chilled all day, Bora Bora again later, not as busy, then had a nice meal in PDB, got slaughtered again after stupidly going back to Bora Bora afterwards...
Tuesday - Salinas. Fantastic afternoon by Sa Trincha, good tunes, great weather, bliss. Got some wristbands for Tonight @ Amnesia with Annie Mac and Eric Prydz closing party. Girls 15e, boys 30e - bargain! Now this is where I made my stupidest decision of the holiday. I had read somewhere that you can walk round the headland from Salinas to PDB, I knew there is a watch-tower at the end of PBD and could also see one in the distance accross to rocks at the end of Salinas...so assumed it was the same one and wouldn't be a long walk - wrong. There are two watch-towers. To cut a long story short I ended up stumbling across Es cavallet - a gay-freindly nudist beach, not my most comfortable moment as I was the most dressed person there with a pair of shorts on! My steps quickened as I tried to get to the other end of the beach...by this time I realised I had f*cked up on a royal level as I could see PDB miles away...I was burning, dehydrated....p*ssed off...decided to get a cab and cut my loses...but could I get a cab? Could I f*ck! Ended up blagging a lift with some stranger....returned home releived my nightmare was over...to the laughter of the rest of the group around the pool! Never again.
Anyway, after recovering from that disaster, Amnesia was fantastic in the evening. had a great night, Prydz was awesome, and everyone enjoyed it. Personally I thought the dubstep on the terrace was out of place, Benga just killed things stone dead - my opinion. The other room was great with Sebastian Leger rocking it till the early hours, I love Amnesia, it's my favourite club on the island.
Wednesday - F*cked. Went to Ibiza town in the evning after perking up a bit, had a lovely meal in Dalt Villa for 3 hours with the whole group, discussed every topic under the sun and had a right laugh. I cant remember the name of the restuarant but it really is worth the walk up, great views and amazing food. Had a view drinks along the harbour front before heading back....
Thursday - PDB beach during the day...went for a meal at Aura in San Lorenc at night. Bloody expensive but lovely. Proper classy, very rich clientel...saw Felix from Basement Jaxx in vip. Very nice place indeed, food was 50/50 for the money but you are paying for the surroundings. The inside club was just kicking off about midnight and looked good, we didnt hang around for too long as a few people were knackered and had to get up to pack etc. Good last night of the holiday.
Friday - Bora Bora beach one last time and then home in the evening. One interesting thing we saw though, there was some rocking music coming out of l'elephant la Plage (a new beach bar on PDB) around midday. Quite rammed with people dancing inside, so we pitched up here with our sunbeds to listen to it. Honestly was the loudest thing on the beach by far, absolutely booming. Music was quality as well....but by 2pm it just stopped and they cleared everything away. We couldnt work out if it was an after-party that had been going all morning...or the police shut it down, or what. The sound restrictions and daytime music policy seemed to not be quite so enforced this year generally and you could tell certain places were pushing it a bit...which can only be a good thing! haha
To sum up, a great time had by all, one of the better trips in fact...yes we are all getting older, but we had the right blend of class and clubbing, which is what we said before we went. There is something on the island for all ages and types of people and quite frankly I can't see myself ever stopping going....
