A little Spotlight crowdsourcing. :D

Any nightclub suggestions?

I'm staying in a 4-star hotel near the central train station for 140 eur/night 8)

From past experience, I knew that a lot of rooms were reserved by travel agencies and fans of other semifinalists (when the CL final was in Moscow, I overheard a travel agency friend release 50 rooms he'd held in a major hotel the week before the match :spank:).

So, I spent 4 days with several travel websites open on my work & home computers, refreshing my search whenever it came to mind. I saw a small number of great deals come and go before I could get them, but got luck and grabbed this one on Monday!

Most of these hotels are definitely taking the p1ss. Rates are 4-8 times higher than normal! Munich hotels are generally quite cheap, from what I gather. For this weekend, 300 eur/night seems minimum for something central.

P1 looks like a good idea for Friday night! My friends & I are doing the ultimate tourist thing and having food & drinks at Hofbrauhaus earlier in the evening. I figured it'll be rammed on Saturday so best to check it out first thing.

Saturday, a friend of mine has reserved tables at Augustiner Bräustuben for lunch. Then I figure we'll have a walk around the center, head up to Odeonplatz to meet up with people and take the U-bahn to the stadium. We've apparently got a table at Club089 later that night. Any thoughts?

I'l mark Hotel Bayerischer Hof on my map too.

What's this Volksgarten thing? Looks like a theater?

Other ideas?

Munich is one of the coolest, most chilled out cities I've ever been to. Not sure I'd think the same in the midst of a Chelsea takeover but it really is an awesome place. I had the whole Ibiza sad face on departure thing going on when it came time to move on to Vienna.

Can't really recommend any boozers, they were all good. If its a nice day, the Englischer Garten is nice for a wander around, they have beer gardens in there too (obviously).

I was thinking this might be the thing to do on Sunday afternoon (depending on recovery from Saturday night, of course)

The descriptions I've read sound quite nice. One of the largest (or largest?) urban parks in the world, bigger than Central Park in NYC.

The Volksgarten, is a group of bars with different music venues (think Ibiza sunset strip). I think I put the website up, the Dj's/ live music vary but they will have house and electronic music on. It is a hipster place.

... Friday night! ...

might be terrible full everywhere not only because of the "football-weekend",
but because exactly this friday there is something going on
called "the longest munich club night" where you have to pay entry once and then can
(theoreticaly) go to ca. 10 clubs, so lots of clowns will be around who normally
won´t be let in by the doorman ...

... Hofbrauhaus ...

http://www.hofbraeuhaus.de/
will be ridiculously overcrowded but always fun and you can get nice place going through
the hofbräuhaus into their garden next to the fountain ...

check out "schuhbeck´s icecream" only a few meters across that place in front of hofbräuhaus:
http://www.schuhbeck.de/laeden/eissalon.html

very good burger-place only few hundred meters away
http://www.cosmogrill.de/

... Augustiner Bräustuben ...

good + cheap original bavarian food, area not very nice, close to main railway station
and to where oktoberfest is, so probably in walking distance to your hotel
http://www.braeustuben.de/

... Club089 ...

http://www.089-bar.de/
not my taste, but not bad. more a student/younger crowd partyplace. wouldn´t call it "club",
they are famous for their afterwork-parties they do together with the club next door (pacha !)
http://www.pacha-muenchen.de

089 is in the middle of munich´s new partyzone sourrounded by ca. 20 other clubs etc.
an interesting place to check out might be the former "baby" -now called "call me drella"
http://www.callmedrella.de/ just around the corner ...

and you could check out the restaurant/partyplace called h.e.a.r.t.
http://www.h-e-a-r-t.me/

... What's this Volksgarten thing? Looks like a theater?...
just nonsense - forget it.
and maybe he mixes this theater with the name "volksgarten" up with the location where
pacha was years ago before another club with the name "volksgarten" moved there,
but long gone, too ... now some trash-hiphop-club with trash-people there (crown´s club).

really difficult to give recommendations for munich -
just because there are soooo many nice places, parks, bars, restaurants etc ...

... You still around this weekend?
will be in munich only few hours, today directly to P1 quite early because
of the terrace-opening around 10pm...
(weather doesn´t look too good at all, but doesn´t matter because
most part of the terrace is covered anyway and they have these open fireplaces)
... and leaving thursday morning till 11am after breakfast in one of my favourite
munich-breakfast-places

This is the link to the bar I was speaking of, it has been a few year and the music policy may have changed, but it was not a trash hip-hop bar when I went. The decor doesn't look like trash.
http://www.volksgarten-muenchen.de/bar.html

The site is in German(Deutsch) but it had a sun terrace and was a good place to hang out around Odeonsplatz. Give it a peak if you don't like keep walking.

That's very different from the first link :)
The terrace does look nice. I checked Google maps and it's not Odeonplatz but it is just up the way from my hotel. I'll keep it in mind!

I may have mixed up the places and links, but it is a cool place to hangout if the weather is nice. They have an inside bar also. The tables may be hard to come by if you have a large group. People don't mind if you join their table. I was traveling alone and speak German. The key phrase " ist dieser platz frei?"

harry klein?, i've never been but by all acounts it is one of th best clubs in the world.

fingers crossed for chelsea on saturday:)...my mate is going, he got lucky and got tickets from the uefa ballot a while ago, even better now since chelsea is his english team

Ooh. Good call. I quite like Pan Pot.

Thanks!

Fingers crossed... Never been this nervous about a game!

When I was in Munich, our hosts were contemplating going to a club (after some arm twisting by me), and I was like, lets go to Harry Klein! And they were, whit? They'd never heard of it! I was even starting to doubt myself that it was in Munich, but a couple of days later my mate's wife was like, so I was chatting to my pal and I mentioned that club you were asking about and she was like yeah its really famous. Raging!

it´s not in the original location anymore.
moved to that new "club-area" - which i mentioned above - few months ago.
it´s in walking distance from 089 (when leaving 089 going down the stairs,
then right and just following the street.
in the same building where pacha and 089 are located (actually directly under 089,
so when you would dig a hole through 089´s floor you´re already inside !)
there´s another interesting techno-club called "rote sonne" (red sun)
http://www.rote-sonne.com/

ps:
but all these places doesn´t make much sense if you are a tourist
and only stay a few days in munich ... just stick to P1
