Just to let you know .......

Human League were amazing!!

Played all the old stuff and a few new ones.

Nice for them to finish the tour in their home city too.

:D

Did the whole band show up?

The Spotlight girls keep talking about the Take That reunion, but I say give me Human League over Take That any day! They had class, broke new ground, created style.

Granted, that style was gaudy as all hell, but still.... classic act.

Yep, obviously there are a touch older, but still brilliant!

It's amazing how the old electro sound, sounds so similar to todays electro. We felt like we were in a club until Phil started singing.

One of our maddest benders ever involved one of the band members - bet you can't guess which one?

I saw Human League in Brighton a couple of years ago!!!
I love the blonde backing singer - she's great!

Like the loud, outrageous Auntie I never had!

She's a really nice person. My g/f see's her quite often and says how nice she is.

However, Joanne always looks miserable, even on stage. I don't think i saw her smile once

I have some video clips and photo's. I must upload them when i have time.

I love Human League but I have to admit to my ignorance here and ask who the hell is Take That? For some reason, I have a vague memory of that band and am thinking it may be a UK New Kids on the Block?

Exactly. They were big in the first half of the 1990s, rising up as the New Kids phenomenon was fading in the US and elsewhere.

A recent TV special and an upcoming reunion tour have renewed interest in their "musical legacy"

Don't worry, you're not missing anything.

They were appalling. Nothing more than a cringeworthy teeny bopper boy band.

In fact T*ke Th*t should not even be allowed in this thread.

That's cos you were too old to appreciate them at the time Drew  ;)

Anjali, Take That were a pop band who were absolutely massive in UK (I think they were biggest band since The Beatles), they did write some damn good pop records, some of them have stood the test of time. They were also different to other boy bands in that they had a wide appeal, it wasn't just little girlies who liked them, I was late teens when they were out and me and all my friends at college/university who should have been old enough not to worship a boy band all loved them, even boys thought they were cool  They weren't squeaky clean either, they took drugs, shagged their groupies etc which made them even more endearing

Why there's been a lot of Take That talk on here recently is that they've just announced a reunion tour 10 years since they split so it's brought a lot of nostalgia to people on here who are of similar age and remember Take That time fondly :D For me it was that age when you're leaving school/going to college with not a care in the world, wearing your Madchester flares and Mad fer it hats , drinking cheap cider and taking acid in the park to a Take That and Stone Roses soundtrack

They weren't the first or last boy band of the past 20 years to have a broader appeal.

I'm with Drew... cringeworthy teeny bopper stuff.

Then again, our generation had some cheesy music from the high school years that we hold on to as classic, though we luckily avoided the resurgence of the boy band genre as New Kids (and later Take That) were big when I was already in university.

I can't think of any others in the UK - people like Wham, Duran Duran, Bros and all the ones who came after Take That were all very targetted at the teeny girlie market. The last 'boy band' in the loosest term of the words to have such a wide appeal were probably The Beatles.

To use your examples, Wham and Duran Duran had huge male fan bases in the early/mid 1980s.

Classic tunes too  8)
