Hey all,
I'm only 9 days away from getting on my first plane and making my LONG trip to IBIZA! The excitement is building and building and has been for 2 years!!

Anyway, I have a question for you all. I have an unused mobile phone here and it is a GSM phone, so I'm pretty sure it can work in Ibiza. My question to you is, is there a way I can obtain a mobile number just for my couple weeks in Ibiza? If so, how do I go about it, how much does it cost, do I need a new SIM card, etc etc? Also, any other info that might be useful would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you very much!!
Terry

If you want to get a local mobile, you will need a new sim card for any operator.

Also, make sure your phone is "unlocked"... sometimes when you buy them through your own operator, they are locked so that they work only with that operator's sim cards. If you don't know if it's locked or not - usually one sign is that your operator sold it to you at a discount.

Can anyone else help as to which Spanish phone service to use?

the phones there are cheap as chips. i lost my phone but i wish id just bought one out there. you get free credit with them too, and if you plan on going back in future years, saves you the bother. im gonna buy one in september when i go back. the amount of times you are calling people on the island etc. it makes much more sense.

you can just get sims tho.

OK so do I just go to an operator on the island and ask to buy a new number and SIM card then? I am goin to get my phone unlocked today.

OK another question now... anyone know how to unlock a phone easily? I went to a dealer and they said it would cost $300 for an unlocking code! Outrageous!

$300 someone is trying to take you for a right mug 8O should cost no more than €20 max, what type of phone is it sometimes you can get the codes online and do it yourself?

I've got a Sony Ericsson K750i cracking phone but was unlocked when i got it...;)

It is an old OLD piece of crap Motorola V60i. It is the only GSM phone I have as most Canadian phones are CDMA as my current one is.

honestly mate, you may be cheaper just buying a pay as you go out there. rather than pay money to get a crappy old phone unlocked, then buy a sim, then buy credit.

my two cents
