Mixmag article - West end crackdown....

Have come across an article in the new Mixmag about a new policy in San Antonio... apparently there is to be a crackdown on the "vodka shot crawl" crew, with tour companies no longer being allowed to offer pub crawl nights out, bars being kept more stringent to their closing times etc.

Sounds very much like what has been going on across the Med resorts in Faliraki to wipe out the drunken image...

What do you all think of this?? For one, I'd love for Ibiza to shed it's "uncovered" image!

I wouldn't believe a single word in print from Mixmag! We asked about a year ago about advertising in the mag and they quoted us thousands, so we said we'd think about it. We got an email 3 months ago offering us VERY cut-price advertising and we declined as we said it had become little more than a titty-mag, and we didn't want to be associated with it. They told us that the Editor had been sacked (they lied), told us that they were going to totally re-vamp the mag starting with the next issue (they lied again) and when we emailed them telling them so they got back to us offering the very same style of advert we had enquired about 12 months previously, but instead of quoting us over 3 thousand pounds for one month they quoted us (get this) £210 for 3 months!!!.
Sounds like a mag that's going under to me, but at that price we took the ad (yes, I know, whores aren't we?).
Besides which, there have been reports of clamp-downs on bars, looky men and all other manner of things since I can remember and yet nothing seems to change in that respect  [/u]

I heard something about this.....but I don't know how much it will actually effect the West End image. The crack down is only meant to limit the bar crawl to a certain number of bars, and surely operators will just find some alternative?? They are a bit of a rip off anyway IMO, at the end of the day if people want to get drunk they will do their own bar crawl, and unfortunately it would take a lot longer than that for Ibiza to lose this sort of clientele.....after all, I think in a way Ibiza need this clientele to financially survive!? I like your thinking though, it's a nice thought!! :P

Having just got the new edition, i'd say that this months does appear to have gone through a revamp. It doesn't look that much like FHM this month.

I don't really care what they do about the West End as I'd never venture anywhere near there. Having said that, it is always reassuring to know that all the braindead beerboys are confined to one area ;)

I think they shoud keep it how it is!!!!!! all the people who want to venture down there- cool- it gets them away from all the decent places!!!!!!

however i do agree- i wud luv ibiza to gfet rid of the "uncoverd" image!!!!!

i would like to take this moment to remind every one that the west end does have some good points and is worth going there once or 2wice in a holiday. for example if you dont have enough money to drink at bora bora or in any of the clubs then its the ideal place to go ... okay it is full of chavs but so is every town in england ... as long as the people your with an not d1ckheads then you can have an awesome time then head off to a decent pre clab bar for a bit then the clubs.

thank you

and now the abuse .......

people who make bad comments on the west-end arent being stuck up. They are commenting on its reputation, and by reputation I think they know that it doesn't mean everyone in the west end is a chav or a dick.....

im not stuck up....most weekends im in the chavviest / crappest clubs possible...but i just go for a laugh! They are full of the "type of people" that you find in the west end. Not everyone causes trouble, but there are more people in commercial clubs who cause fights that in proper clubs.

I also go to real club nights when they are on and i never see a spot of trouble in them, or in the big nights at Ibiza. People may be out of it on drink and drugs but they keep themselfs to themselfs.....(that i know of)

the only places i see wasted people causing a fuss is commercial clubs 70% full of neds. This is the equivelant of the west end to other parts of Ibiza.

If you don't like the sound of the west end....don't go...

If you do.....then go! But don't expect not to see trouble.

I suggest that everyone gives it a go! its cheap and cheerfull....so why not?

I think alot of people go to the westend with the intention of drinking booze untill they are paralletic (which is perfectly normal ;) ) and trying to get laid. It's not a club scene its for drinking and finding holiday romance (probably for one night  )

sorry for the essay......im bored and the west end topic really bugs me

Hmmn, some good points well put, but it still aint for me. There are still some really kool places you can go without being ripped off like Underground.
Call me old fassioned but when I go to places like the West End I just end up feeling ashamed to be british & pretend to be Spanish!

All I was saying is that it would be nice to get rid of the image and the trouble.. but I'm not fussed about who goes there, if its not your cup of tea then go elsewhere! After all half the people I know in Ibiza are employed in those few streets!

It would be nice not have to explain constantly that although I'm over 30 that's its still a great place to go and that Ibiza has far more to offer than just the west end..

I was over in Ibiza last week and I have to say I wasn't into the west end at all. I went down to San An during the day and thought it was a beautiful place but at night it basically turns into a cattle market. You can't walk 3 feet without someone asking you to go into their bar and after about the 10th time it really gets on your tits. Plus it's full of drunken arseholes who can't handle their beer. I wouldn't say it's a total English thing though as we saw plenty of Scottish and Irish people generally acting the knob. Plus I have to say, we met a group of lads from Ipswich on our first day at Bora Bora who were on a stag party (like ourselves) and they were the soundest lads you could meet and they hated the West End scene aswell. So basically if you're more into your clubbing and a bit of culture avoid San An at night.

yeah I gotta agree - it's great for a cheap night out - but it's not very spanish.

We hung out in Kielty's and got suitably pished before moving on to a club.

But have to say got a bit sick of it by the end of our holiday - in the end we retired to Murphy's Irish bar for an old fashioned bottle of bulmers and a chat... if my b/f got called Del Boy once more by Liverpudlians who though Dublin was in London, there was going to be trouble :D

All in good fun though...

Going back in 2 weeks can't wait!!!!!
