Marina Playa, big changes.

after staying in this hotel for many years I think its fair to say its moved from its family orientated friendly fun loving hotel to what can only be described as a version of Ocean Beach Club. chill out is now the image. cocktail bar on terrace, bar prices up by 25%.white sofas where sun beds where, dj Prades playin chill out tunes zzzz, zzzzzz.chisha pipes are next on the agenda, the character of the place has changed so much since Theresa and Juan managed it. where once the place was filled with fun happiness and old reunions made year after year we now have Chill Out zone. now I know this will appeal to the young rich posing beauties and that grace the posing positions in places like OBC, but such a change was a big surprise. yea its going all classy as we were told but at what price ? the character is gone the fun is gone and unfortunately for us we are gone.best wishes and good luck new owners and management you may need it.Big Changes aint always successful changes.

there are way too many places where exacty the same bull**** is happening
like described by jlw1.

disgusting the ****ing wrong direction ibiza is taking right now ...

Really disappointed with this whole chill out c**p! The place was fine as it was. We're going there for the 8th yr in a row in August, but after calling in to see Sergio when we were over in May, I think our love affair with the Marina Playa will come to an end this year. Shame.

it is a shame, before we left this year the rooms were booked full. but the bar area as we knew it was empty. a new white cocktail bar was set up on the terrace. a price comparison to last year was.....jug cocktail 2012 €10 a glass of cocktail this year €10 !
yes marina playa is a beautiful hotel but come on.... set between the Spar area and the la sirena shop it aint ever gonna be classy up market.
its a beautiful location for view of bay and sunset,it was our home on hols for 7 years we loved it. but this in my honest opinion will not work, its just OTT.
we are already pricing for next year elsewhere, we wont be going back to Chill Out Zone

The drinks prices are a joke! It has tried too much, too soon. Sergio has been saying for a while they are trying to move away form their traditional type of visitor and appeal more to the Ocean beach type. The bar area was totally empty in May too but they claimed the place was full, bar a few rooms?? A lick of paint in the rooms and a chill out area dont justify the increase in prices. The cost of rooms is going up next year as well so that will definitely be the final nail in the coffin for us. Wish they would just leave it alone and bring Teresa & Juan back ;).

when you hear " we are going all classy " that just makes traditional guests who put marinaplaya on the map feel unwanted.
this is a classic case what the new owner wants not what the guest want, if you dont like or not suited to classy its "move on "
i could just see my kidz watching me smoke a chisha pipe instead of swimming or playing a game of pool.
watch this has the potential to crash and burn. and its not classy its actually a pathetic attempt to please ones wishes.

Same happened to Tur palas in PDB this year..
To be fair though that place needed a refurb lol

but it seems to be the worrying growing trend now in PDB for hotels to do this, which is a shame, it's expensive enough as it is staying there!

I stayed in the Marina Playa twice 2010, 2012 it's a lovely hotel Sergio really makes the place in my opinion such a nice guy Theresa is great to she treated us like her own. Sergio told me last year the place would be changing but I though he meant they didn't want young people staying there anymore it's a shame to see it change drastically have great memories there.

unfortunately Theresa and Guan have now retired , they worked so hard and knew each guest on a personal basis.my memories of Marina Playa are more pleasurable having known these great people. they made Marina Playa what it once was.....a proper family hotel ,fun, friendly and Theresa information on the island and were to visit at the right price was 2nd to none. they are sorely missed. but time moves on and as with any new owner they have new ideas, unfortunately those ideas are alien to what myself and family require for a family holiday.

Well, we've just got back from 2 weeks at Aperture as its now known. So different, and mostly not in a good way! They really want a totally different crowd compared to the customers of old. The hollow plastic bar beside the pool is a joke as are the plastic plant pots that change colour. The old inside bar & the pool tables can't be used any longer. Juan even visited every few nights to laugh at the way the place is now run.
the rooms are basically the same apart from all the white furniture and Aperture towels. On a good note, the new staff are very friendly & helpful & Sergio is his usual self. I really can't see us going back again. R.I.P Marina Playa...

The new manager has illusions of grandeur & the drink prices are as expensive as Mambo's .... Apart from that, the rooms are basically the same apart from all the white furniture and Aperture towels. On a good note, the new staff are very friendly & helpful & Sergio is his usual self. Veronica and Carmen are very helpful,Sergio is a star..... but as you say the place has changed.
