Utter crap movie.

2 hours of your life you can never get back. So disappointed by Sophia Coppola. Avoid at all costs!

I quite enjoyed her previous film, Lost in Translation... now I can only chock that up to the acting talents of Scarlett and Bill Murray. :?

Seems like I read that people walked out in the middle of the film at Cannes. I figured it was just the French being.... well... French. But I seriously considered doing the same last night.

Great soundtrack of modern rock tunes... that part I didn't mind (kind of like Luhrman's Romeo & Juliet). It was just un-friggin'-believably boring.

That's the one with Clive Owen, right? Does look interesting...

What's this History Boys film about? I see it advertised all over London

Wrong!
Lost in Translation wasn't her first film, it was The Virgin Suicide and it's great.

I said her previous film, Sil... I know about The Virgin Suicides. Haven't seen it yet, though... What did you like about it?

It's a great film based on a great novel.
The actors job and direction is great, the photography is great and the soundtrack is great (Air), it's one of my fav films ever, it's very subtel and atmospheric.
Give it a go, you may change your opinion and think that Maria Antonieta is the exception ;)

It's long been on my list of films to see... especially after Lost in Translation which I've watched several times and which (if you forgive her poking fun at the Japanese) is a great film. The atmosphere really highlights the actors' performances.

You should watch The Virgin Suicides, it's a top top film I can't recomend it enough :D

Children of men has had fabulous reviews, really want to see that.. and the Scorcese pic The Departed (remake of a Hong Kong film called 'Infernal Affairs', fact fans, which is excellent)

.... the photography is great....

its 'cinematography' if we're being picky ;)

Hehee just returning the favour for Morbyd

I've only seen lost in translation but I quite enjoyed that. I heard bad things about marie antionette so definately giving it a miss. I'll have to watch 'The Virgin Suicides' though, i'm good at missing cult films that I'll probably like!

Gonna watch the departed tonight mark. Only problem is I'm not a fan of watching long films in the cinema... proper bum ache.

I saw Departed on Sunday. I quite enjoyed it... I saw it as a typical Scorcese crime & punishment flick (even if the story was lifted from a Hong Kong movie). Solid acting all around from so many big names (Matt Damon, DiCaprio, Nicholson, Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin, Donnie Wahlburg). A little weak on the female lead and a bit apocalyptic on the ending but it kept me interested to the end despite its length. I also connected with the Boston location and local politics/attitudes/accents because I lived there for six years.
