while we were on the island in san an,a young lad aged 21 died after plunging 4 floors from the 4th floor in Orosol hostel, after being out drinking ,he leant over the balcony to be sick, and fell to his death,
and in another incident an elderly couple were knocked down on a pedestrian crossing. a car had stopped to let them cross the road, a quad had stopped on the other side of the crossing, but another guy on a quad plowed into the quad that had stopped, and knockee the first quad into the couple, which also knocked the lady into the car that had been waiting, she just kept saying ,*but we were on the crossing*
thankfully the ambulance arrived within 5 mins and took all the injured parties off to hospital

I'm currently at the Orosol, and was told about this the other day. Sad story all round, for the lad and his family obviously, but also for the owners, it's a tremendously well run family hotel and to come to work and see what had happened must have been awful.

Got to say tho, how disgusting is that? Being sick off the balcony? 8O

And re the crossing story, pedestrian crossings in Spain/Ibiza/abroad are nothing like the UK ones where people HAVE to stop for pedestrians, in Spain they're just a courtesy thing....

But RIP to the dead and condolences to their families...

I truly despise this quad bike culture. The horror stories you hear. I guess there is money to be made with this. Truth is, you don't even need a license to rent one. Or, at least, if you do, then the firms don't police it.

a young 21 yr old lad hired one of these quads and took his mum out on one, they had an accident and his mum has now died, he only had a provisional licence, so obviuosly the companies dont check, how is that young lad going to cope now, knowing he caused the death of his mum, that poor lad

His mum should never of let him hire one let alone ride with him with no experience of driving 8O

Too true..... quad bikes are dangerous things if you're experienced, look at what happened to Rik Mayall and Ozzy Osbourne!!! They both fell off them on their own land and got hurt, never mind on an open road with other cars around!!!

The rental mopeds are just as dangerous (or should I say the people who rent them out are dangerous!), the amount of people who've come tearing round the corner outside our apartments and skidded off their moped, usually only dressed in bikinis and/or shorts and they've ended up with grazed legs/knees/arms/backsides!!!

Having just returned after three glorious weeks my own observation on road "safety" is that the level of suicidal overtaking seems higher than normal this year. I'm surprised the road carnage figures are not higher.
Either that or I just go out at the wrong time!

He'll likely be charged with manslaughter and serve a hefty jail term (possibly in a foreign jail) living with that guilt. Cannot imagine what he must be going through - Mum in fairness ought not to have got on the thing - she was old enough to guide better. Many young guys take risks and likelihood is such an accident could have happened to any one of them. Those roads are not for inexperienced drivers in Season, that's a cert.

I'm lucky never to have had an accident in Ibiza (save for a blown out tyre), which is quite something for the miles I've driven there cumulatively over the years. But many near-misses on account of other people driving crazily, only avoiding accidents by quick reflexes, taking appropriate action and expecting people not to do what they ought to at all times (drove for years in Africa in a country with an incredibly high road death toll - helped a lot to learn road survival skills but far fewer cars on the road there than Ibiza!). Ibiza ain't the place to 'learn the ropes' .... it may be very tempting, but please don't do it !

i dont believe a balcony railing could could be that low, was the guy who fell over 7ft tall?

still a shame, is this the way its going to go here, all day and all night boozing at the inc bar.

It was a window he went through. Into the courtyard area of the hotel he was in. His mate that was bunking with him slept through the whole incident. It was the cleaners who found his body the next morning.

Ah, I was wondering about that, seeing that all the Orosol balconies are street facing. Wondered why it took so long to be discovered.

Back to the Quad story, it was in the Ibiza sun that the lad who hired it only had a Provisional Licence!!!!8O8O8O8O8O

How the hell did he manage to hire anything more powerful than a pushbike with a Provisional????? All a licence like that means is he's having lessons, not that he's passed any test or anything!! The hire company will no doubt be liable for some charges too...

Now that is horrific :( The things that can happen when off your head.
RIP

what a prat he was.never learn

How cruel and horrid to say such a thing Woodruffe!
I am not supporting for one moment what this young man did, suffice to say we have all been young once. I got on the back of my Sons bike very near to this place, albeit legal, however you never know whats around the corner so to speak. Possibly it was rented on production of his Mothers licence?
He obviously had his Mothers blessing, and now he has no Mother.
Punishment enough I feel, except for points on any subsequent licence.
Prat.......NO. A very unfortunate young Man whom has my sympathies. Worse young men are out and about.:(
