Make your mind up you scouse messerabouter !!

I know, but HE released a statement yesterday stating HE wanted to leave due to circumstance over the last 5/6 weeks, now I think because he thought he'd be vilified over money, he's changed his mind again.

I don't think this will go down too well in some circles. We'll have to see.

Cue a million Tabloid cartoonists furiously scribbling images of him in situations where he has to make a choice. i.e. in a restaurant, waiter saying (captioned) "Sir has decided (again) he doesn't want the paella after all...." etc

i agree.
its down to him at the end of the day, and if the agents done something he doesnt want then he'd sack him, but he won't cos he's 25 years old and can make decisions for himself.
-so i wouldnt blame the agent so much.

its just about Gerrard, and im not sure how fans will react.

Of course players have to take responsibility for their actions, but time and time again we see agents exploiting situations just to make themselves money.

Imagine how much the agent would have made from a £35-40M deal? 8O

"Steven's decided to stay," Parry told Sky Sports News. "He realises how much the club means to him; genuinely, it's a little bit like last year, perhaps even more dramatic.

"I think the language he's been using to us even when he said he was going, he never said he wanted to go as he said it was so difficult, I don't think I can come back; he never said he wanted to go.

"The last 24 hours he has reflected on it and thought it through and he wants to stay.

"I couldn't be more delighted and, from my point of view, it is what we wanted all along.

"I apologise to Stevie if I've misread his emotions. I guess I thought after Istanbul I thought we knew where we were going, but it was obviously praying on his mind.

"He was anxious and he genuinely felt club wasn't as enthusiastic as we might be about keeping him and there were one or two issues with the contract he took to be perhaps a lack of enthuasism on our part, which it wasn't, but he understands that now.

"We had some emotional moments together and cleared all that and I don't think it will happen again.

"There were a few late night phone calls and a few very early morning calls this morning and I think he just wants a couple of days to go away and clear his head now.

"It hasn't been easy for him but, as far as we're concerned, it's the right decision."

Parry believes Gerrard will now sign a new improved deal to extend his stay at Anfield.

"I think it's hammered (a new deal). I don't think it's an issue," added Parry. "We all understand what is required and that's the easy bit.

"I think to be fair to Stevie, he's not staying because he was concerned about negativity. The point I made to Stevie on Monday was think of the fans in Istanbul, think of the positives, how can you leave that? And I think that's been on his mind.

"It is not a decision for negative reasons he found it complicated but it was always difficult for him to say he wanted to go and I'm more certain than ever that he's fully committed and this is where he wants to be."

When asked if the latest development would mean Chelsea and Real Madrid could forget about signing him, Parry added: "Absolutely."

Make what you will of this :?

How many News program producers are currently flicking thru the CDs for The Clash "Should I stay or should I go" :?:

hes mocking the fans and the club.

Apparently several Kopites told me yesterday :

"Sh*te anyway laa, Ballack and Alonso dream team like..."
"Shanks would be turning in his grave....."
"No one is bigger than the club lad, no one."

it would seem it is now Steven Gerrard FC. How cringeworthy have Parry and Benitez been in the whole thing.

Parry saying "Im sorry if i misread his emotions" - WTF?
Benitez's desperation - "You can be the coach, the manager, the right back, your dad can have a ten minute run out in a league game, we will get you restylane for your forehead..."

Its funny.

I think the only thing he could do to repair things would be to sack his agents (that way it looks like he was misled/informed bla bla).

I personall was looking forward to getting nigh on 35million for him, that can buy some class Spaniards ;)

From the horses mouth :-

But Gerrard has admitted that he just couldn't bring himself to leave the club he loves so dearly.

"I had the whole of yesterday to think about my decision and what I was doing. I turned off my phone and my television and went through it all in my head again," said Gerrard.

"After considering everything that's gone on, I just couldn't go through with it and leave this club. I never said I wanted to leave in the first place, but I'd felt I was being backed into a corner and had to push things on.

"I know it was going to look as though I wanted to go, but at one stage I thought I had no choice. When I thought about it more, I just wanted to stay.

"I admitted I've made mistakes and the club has acknowledged they've made some mistakes as well. But now we've sorted it out and I'm doing what I wanted to do all along, which is stay at Liverpool."

He added: "I've now apologised to Liverpool and they've apologised to me, which is important. I was left feeling so confused yesterday. I was receiving all kinds of advice and information from so many people, but I just had to sit down with my girlfriend and advisor and think it all through again for myself. I was just thinking 'how have we got into this mess and what's the best way out of it?'. I knew I had to do what I'd intended doing all along and sign a new contract.

"I made the decision last night that I couldn't leave this club. I love Liverpool so much. This is my club. My heart is with Liverpool. I don't need to tell anyone that. Everyone who knows me can see how I feel. The last thing I wanted to do was leave, I just couldn't do it."

Gerrard understands the feelings the fans have experienced over the past 24 hours as they contemplated the thought of their hero moving to Chelsea.

"My relationship with the supporters has always been fantastic and I knew a lot of people would be disappointed if I'd decided to go. I thought about the fans and the future," Gerrard said.

"As I'd said all along, I never wanted to leave. I don't want to go into details now about what happened over the last few weeks because the most important thing now is we can sort it out.

"I'm going to sign a new contract and, like I've always done, will be doing everything possible to make Liverpool successful again.

"It's been a bit of a mess but now we can sort it out and move forward. As I've said, we can all learn things from this.

"Now we all want to look forward."

Source at Betfair, (who is always right when he tells me something like this) says that Gerard is going to Madrid as of 5 mins ago. Done deal, announcement top made shortly. Squeezed an extra £3M out 'em though this pissing about.

I've just trusted your mate and laid a oner on him going - he'd better be right :P

That would be brilliant. all we would need then is the policeman out of allo allo to make the farce complete.

Oh yeah, happy birthday King Of Google images ;)

He'll look a bit stupid if he is, as this has just been put on the Liverpool website.....

Gerrard has emerged from "the hardest six weeks of my life" to eventually announce he would be staying with the Reds after originially indicating he wanted to move on.

He admits he at first felt unwanted by the club after contract discussions failed to begin immediately after the Champions League final, but now all parties are united and the skipper is more than happy to stay for as long as the manager wants him.

"The last five or six weeks were the hardest of my life because I wrongly believed the club didn't want me. I don't want to get into attaching blame to anyone," he said.

"If I blame anyone, it's myself. I wanted my future sorted out as soon as possible after the Champions League final and when that wasn't the case, the longer it went on, the more misunderstandings there were.

"There was confusion and doubt in my mind. I had discussions with the manager, but the reports of bust-ups are complete nonsense. Now I know how much the club wants me.

"I feel I must defend my agent, Struan Marshall, in this. He's taken a lot of stick but all along he's never done anything I didn't ask him to.

"He's well respected at Liverpool and has done deals for me and other players in the past. He's conducted himself in the right way.

"He's a big factor in my decision to stay and organising the contract.

"I'll be signing the deal, maybe even today. I'd also like it known there are no clauses in that contract. This won't be happening again next summer or ever again, so far as I'm concerned.

"I've committed my long-term future to the club and I want all the speculation to end now. This is what I've wanted all along."
