After last week's LCD Soundsystem gig, the 11th anniversary celebrations continued with Major Lazer...
The American DJ and producer Valentino Khan, whose name appears on a variety of hip hop and EDM releases, was first on stage. He did a great job, getting the crowd hyped up to the max before the headliner came on.
The multifaceted Diplo (who yesterday also played at Cafe Mambo before and Pacha afterwards) brought his project Major Lazer back to Ibiza, four years after they first played at Ibiza Rocks Hotel for We Are Rockstars. Plenty of things happened since then, most notably the release of "Lean On" (a collaboration with DJ Snake) as the lead single of their third album Peace Is The Mission (2015), which became Spotify's most-streamed song of all time and surpassed one billion views on YouTube.
Accompanied by his colleagues Jillionaire and Walshy Fire and four dancers, their eclectic mix of styles on songs like "Pon De Floor", "Too Original" and "Light It Up" was brilliant, so much energy with the entire crowd singing along and big smiles all around. There was a sit-down, there was people taking their tops off and throwing them into the air... basically it was non-stop fun. Throughout the show smoke and confetti cannons created an awesome atmosphere, always a nice touch. I'm sure people who had seen them in the past missed seeing Diplo rolling in a giant inflatable hamster ball on top of the crowd, I certainly did. "Lean On" was the before-last tune of the night and one of the many highlights of their repertoire.
Their show was off the hook... an absolute banger of a party!
The actress Kate Hudson, who is friends with Diplo, was supposed to be in the VIP so there was a table ready for her and her amigas but she didn't turn up... for an Almost Famous fan like me, seeing her would have been the icing on the cake of an already beyond amazing night!
