Anyone been? Where is cool to go out?

I am off next weekend for 3 days, take in a club saturday night and probably watch real on the Sunday.

Any suggestions/places to see much appreciated ;)

Are you going out on Saturday night only? If you will, I'm telling you information about Saturday night.
If you like house the better known clubs are:
Danzoo @ Maxime,
The Room @ Stella,
Ohm @ Bash (this one is gay/mixed)

If you're into techno instead, I'd rather choose Coppelia-101, or Nasti, as they're the most heard techno clubs from there on Saturday night.

However, it would be better if you decided to go clubbing on Friday night or Sunday evening-night. This is better in Madrid.
On Friday night Clive Henry (UK) will be DJing at Danzoo, and Little Louie Vega (USA) will be at Deep @ Divino (another important club).
On Sunday night John Acquaviva will be at Space Of Sound @ Macumba (this is the best club in Madrid).

You'll get more info (prices, address, opening times, music policy, etc) here:

Cheers for the advice TigerVlc

We arrive saturday morning, returning home late Monday afternoon. So friday is out of the equation but sunday sounds cool.

OK I expect saturday will be chilled(ish)....dinner then a few bars. Any suggestions?

Sunday we are going to watch Real. What is the ticket situation like for home games? Are we likely to get in and how much should we pay?

I am mainly into house music. Have not heard of John Acquaviva....what is his style? Will Sunday night still go on late? Don't most people have work!!! Shame we miss Louie on the Friday night

Thanks again if you can answer any of the above :D

You're welcome Bukes!
John Acquaviva is one of the best techno DJs in the world, but also plays house with a very good technique. He's Canadian, and use to visit Madrid.

He will be playing at Space Of Sound at Macumba (Chamartin Railstation) on Sunday night. So, as this club is such an impressive, huge and stunning one I recommend you a lot to give it a go, really. This club is even better than the ones in Ibiza themselves. And due to the popularity of Acquaviva, I'm sure it'll be crowded till Monday morning.

The shame is that this club was very important when it opened from Sunday morning to the evening, but they had to change the schedule to the night, so it's impossible for me to be there. However rumours say it'll get back to Sunday morings, yipeee!!

Suggestions for dinner: any VIPS you see (there's one in Gran Vía), they are easy to find as have a big red sign with white letters saying 'VIPS' around their entrances. Another cheap and fine restaurant at the Gran Vía: Arkansas.

Don't know about the ticket prices for Real Marid, but I hope they lose, hehehe, unlikely this time though. They equalized my team Valencia last Sunday at the last minute due to the referee (as usual).

If this serves, there's a great club to go to on Sunday evening before Space. It's called People @ Maxime. Great music! And if you don't want to go to Space on Sunday night, try Week End @ Bash.

Anyway the link I told you might be very useful for you. Or why don't you ask a question in the English forum of clubbingspain.com? There are lots of people from Madrid there.

Ei, TigerVic, don't recomend VIP's, has no glamour and it's soooo madrileño ;)

Go to La Latina (it's an area, you can go by tube) and eat in any of the bars there. Great tapas, great vibe always, specially on sundays

Hope you'll see Madrid loosing
About the prices... here there are http://www.sportsemotions.com/football/madrid2.htm

Yes, la Latina for 'tapas', of course!

As for VIPS, I use to go to VIPS in my city, and I even have their VIPS club card   :P It's true it has not glamour, but their sandwiches are yuuummmmyyy!! The places are also well set up (minimalist).

gracias mucho cada uno! :D

OK so VIPs should I go or not!? I am not going to criticise something I don't know but....if a bar/club was called VIP in London I would automatically think cheesey/tacky.

Space and People @ Maxime....what sort of vibe are these places? I am looking for something on a dc10/space terrace tip.

La Latina is marked in if this is the best place for tapas. Sunday is turning into quite a day

VIPS is not either cheesy nor tacky. You think this is a tacky name? hehehe
it's actually "Very Important Person" :P In Spain we never think on the meaning of it, hehehe

I think Space and People are must do's if you can go out on Sunday evening and night. They're two of the most important clubs in Madrid.

Space residents use to play tribal house, quality progressive which sounds perfect in such a roomy and huge venue, and tech-house. Acquaviva use to play techno and sometimes house, but as the music policy in Space doesn't include techno, he will likely play house or tech-house, or will vary from house to techno and viceversa offering a freestyle set.

The kind of people there is very heterogeneous, trendy people, underground people, gay people, outlandish people,...everything, assorted fauna. At least the 4 or 5 times I was in there when it was a morning-afternoon club.

People is very trendy. And they use to play funky-house. I like it a lot too. The people use to go to People ( ;) ) from 8pm Sunday until midnight. Then if you still fancy keeping on clubbing, you can take the tube very near there (Puerta de Toledo) and head to Estación de Chamartín, where Space of Sound is located.

I hope you spend a fabulous weekend. Let us know everything when you're back in London. ;)

Thank you ;)

Yep full report will follow when I get back. Part of me wishes I was going this weekend....but then again its the small matter of Arsenal v. Chelsea tomorrow which is looking kind of special.

Believe it or not VIP has a univeral meaning! Means the same here....just if somewhere advertises itself as 'VIP' then 9 times out of 10 cool, trendy people will not go there. Or maybe thats just London?

Space seems a must on Sunday then. Sounds like quite a cool place. I love hanging out with Spanish people...always such a good atmosphere :D

Are morning/afternoon clubs no more then?

I'll need some more advice come june, heading out for sonar in Barcelona

Bukes you'll love Sonar!!! I've been 7 years in the night concerts and 8 years in the dayly activities (only missed the first festival and 96, when I was in London) and it must be seen.

I know I missed out last year (I was still KO'ed from space opening and all the after-after....parties). Friends who went told me I missed out so this year I am not missing out!

The timings are quite good because I am in Barcelona with work around that time so staying out for a mini-break after.

Really worth it.

I've never been to the Sonar, but because I couldn't. But I'd love to go really.

Bukes: still there's morning/afternoon clubs in Madrid. I think the club Divino opens on Sunday morning, and some friends of mine who live in Madrid told me it's big too. I heard about other two afters called Mekanikal and Duom. But don't know more about this issue. You will have to ask someoene from Madrid.

Silvia: just a question. You told sometime ago you knew someone who works for the Catalan promoter Matinee? If so, is that true that they took charge of the Valencian after-hours Distrito Playa? I saw the other day on a picture they changed their name to Distrito Matinee and they adopted the well-known logo with the sun of this promoter Matinee. That would be good news for me, as I love Matinee group. They're one of the best worldwide promoters in my opinion.

Madrid is one cool city :D

Its always cast in the shadow of Barcelona...but Madrid people know how to party, lots of cool little places with funky people.

OK here's my review:

Arrived early Saturday afternoon. Wicked central location for the hotel on Grand Via. Got some food near La Latina (just off the square) and walked round, chilled in a cafe near tribunal (sp?) before heading back for sleep as we had all had a very heavy night in London on the Friday (not the most sensible thing I know!). Went out for dinner around 11pm...nothing amazing although on the whole the food was not bad, few bars before ending up at a small club in tribunal again playing techno music.

Sunday watched Real play which was very good indeed.......although Arsenal would still beat them! Went to space of sound in the evening which was a great crowd. Although the sex ratio could have been better! More girls needed that is. Still lots of flamboyant people and a good vibe. The girls that were there though were stunningly attractive. Club was a bit industrial for my liking but the crowd more than made up for it! :D Music could have done with more funk....still had a wicked time though.

Monday - felt pretty fcukin rough. Chilled, walked, did some shopping, eat....went to the airport. Recommend any Spanish designers either of you? Was trying so find some quirky t-shirts by local designers but to no avail. Maybe next time

All in all a wicked wkend and will defo be back at some stage. I notice that the Mullet still prevails in Madrid's cooler places!

Mucho gracius TigerVlc and Silvia for the advice :D I'll buy you a drink if either of you are checking out sonar in June.

I am taking Spanish lessons as have not ruled out living in Barcelona or Madrid at some stage

my pleasure Bukes!
I'm glad you had a great weekend in Madrid. So you finally did Space of Sound? So you saw Mr. Acquaviva playing, didn't you? What type of music did he choose for his set? As I told you he plays either techno or house, but he use to play mainly techno. But Space music policy is mainly tech-house, tribal and dark house, and progressive.

It's a fact that in Spain the sex ratio is pretty balanced or even with more gals than guys just in clubs where they play funkier and more latin house. But moreover, since Space is now on Sunday night, it seems that this attracts even less ladies.

Personally, Space of Sound is an amazing club. I do like industrial-ish big clubs.

You didn't try People before going to Space? You'd probably have liked it more, as it's a very funky and gorgeous club.

Bukes,

Madrid is a really beautiful city completly different from Barcelona. It's not fair to compare them 8) and Madrileños know what it means life and nightlife.

About spanish t-shirts I would recomend Custo Barcelona and Divinas Palabras. But if you are coming to Sonar I can suggest you some cool shops.

Glad you enjoyed

I am going to Madrid this weekend having last been there 18 months ago and looking for some up to date advice on going out clubbing. I've previously been to Ohm and done the Space of Sound on to People thing when it was on Sunday afternoon. Brilliant atmosphere and crowd.

It appears Space of Sound is now on in the evening - is it still as good / busy? Is People busy before it ? If not has anyone any suggested alternatives for Sunday on a funky house tip ?

Any advice much appreciated.
