How funny? Im going to madrid that weekend too!! :)
We are going on our annual work weekend away to Madrid this year. We are staying at the Mirasierra Suites Hotel. It looks lovely but have been told its a little outside of the centre.
I would suggest that you book somewhere asap though as there is some big conference on in madrid that weekend and hotels seemed to be booking up fast. Flights from London for that weekend are very expensive.

Ferd the people in Madrid are so hard core- they never go to bed. and they never seem to stop drinking! they all meet up for lunch on Saturday, and it seems that they are still at it on sunday evening.

My friend, who we were visiting in november, said that most bosses don't expect half their staff to turn up on Mondays.

A great place though- we are hoping to go back in the summer. The city has a realy good vibe to it.

That's really interesting, I've never had the urge to go to Madrid but I like the sound of starting Saturday morning thru to Sunday evening

Scoobie, you should know that for us, food is a ritual, and we tend to send half of our weekends or holidays around a table, eating drinking, smoking and talking ;)

If you live in Madrid you are expected to go out for "cañas" (beer) at least 3 days / (working) week, you'll find busy bars every single day of the week.

Are you sure about getting back in summer, tho? It's REALLY hot 8O

Yeah I know. we wanted to go in the Autumn, but with the wedding that won't be possible.

We'll just have to stay in nice cool bars or restaurants during the day  ;)

You'll be fine then, but don't go in August cos you'll find 50% of the cool bars or restaurants closed

One of the biggest events in Madrid is Space of Sound and it's a sunday morning thing. Anyway, at the moment "la fiesta" is much better in Madrid than in Barcelona ;)

I love Madrid. Great, fun city. People have a good time and wandering about the downtown area is great day or night.

Sil's right though... blazing hot in mid-summer.
