Madonna, Kabbalah, Malawi

I used to watch Kabbalah matches on latenight TV years ago. Crazy indian dudes hopping around and stuff.

Anyone have a decent idea about this Kabbalah business?

Here's my threepenny bits worth:

The principles of the Kabbalah are really great - the Daily Mail would have you believe otherwise however.

Contrary to popular belief - this isn't a cult to be filed alongside Scientology.

The Qabalah is an ancient shamanic practice (which in itself is kinda meaningless because the roots of every culture are shamanic if you go back far enough ).

It's based on a map of the cosmos and is as old as time (and doesn't contradict with science either).

I think the 'Kabbalah' is an adapted version of this grounded in Jewish mysticism.

This doesn't make it any less meaningful - it's just the same practice in the context of an organised religion (which is the bit I don't like but horses for courses! Some of us like aligning ourselves with institutions I guess...I think the same of Buddhism to be honest.)

...

So - in conclusion, I'd say this is more about the institution itself than the intent behind it.

The moment money becomes involved in any culture, its concept of truth dilutes.

(haven't read the article yet though!)

It basically says that the Kabbalah Center somehow spent $3.8 million of the money raised for this Malawi school and did jack all.
(and $3 million of that was spent outside of Malawi!)

Charlatans, the lot of them. And shame on Madge for trying to make it look like the problems were elsewhere.

Yep - this is everything to do with Charlatans and nothing to do with the principles of Kabbalah.

This is all too common in Malowi (I know this because I'm doing work with a small charity in that field at the mo). So many hospitals and facilities get built with state of the art equipment yet no thought is put into training, maintenance and monetisation. Consequently, loads of buildings exist full of broken machinery gathering dust.

Also - the papers will have a field day because Madonna is involved so expect all the scandal to be amplified to the power of 1,000,000.

+1 its just like the Bono Red Ipod thing that cost more money to set up the companythan money sent to Africa.

+1 It is the people that ruin religion not the religion in and of itself.
