M8 Awards Night 2006

taken from the UP Hospitality E-Flyer 1:

M8 MAGAZINE ARE HOSTING THEIR ‘IBIZA AWARDS 2006’ at EDEN in September, as a potential alternative to the highly Ibiza Town-centric Pacha Ibiza DJ Awards, which rarely acknowledge events taking place in the San Antonio environs (except Mambo, for obvious reasons).

M8 Ibiza Dance Awards

Saturday 2 September sees M8 Magazine and Eden Club, Ibiza launch the M8 Ibiza Dance Awards. Celebrating the outstanding contributions made to the Ibiza season just passed, the awards will bring together the cream of the world's DJs, producers, promoters, dancers and everyone who plays a part in making Ibiza the world's clubbing Mecca.

The DJs
Radio 1's DJ Spoony will host the event, with the ensuing after party featuring headline appearances from Mylo, Joey Negro and Tom Novy, all confirmed at the time of writing, with many more to be announced. With the entire award nominees in attendance and some of the most hedonistic individuals on the planet in the crowd, it promises to be a star-studded party to remember.

The Awards
Ibiza is a musical melting pot and as such becomes almost impossible to define but the M8 Ibiza Dance Awards will be voted for by the people that matter: the clubbers. M8 Magazine is one of the world's finest dance music publications, having supported the scene from the very beginning, it has a reputation for credibility, a reputation it puts firmly behind these awards. All votes will be checked and verified by the magazine, ensuring a true reflection of the votes cast.

The Club
Eden Club, Ibiza, is one of the island's true legends and situated in the heart of San Antonio, it is one of the busiest venues on Ibiza. Capacity crowds regularly descend on Eden for parties such as Garlands, Dusted, Judgement Sundays and the recently added Gatecrasher. The club has a history at being at the forefront of dance music on the island and as such makes the perfect partner for M8 Magazine in the Ibiza Dance Awards.

Only the first three (Pete Tong, Jo Mills - where was she this summer anyway? - and Steve Lawler get my approval for winning anything. The rest is not my thing. I usually only go to Pacha, Space & DC10 (and occasionnaly Amnesia). Means I'm a Ibiza Town kind of guy I think.
BTW, Mauro Picotto as best techno dj must be a joke!!!

not much surprise there.

how can they actually hope to get enough results in, when you have to send a sms in?
who would be interested enough to actually shell out the money for that?

*wondering*

those results are horrible, come on judge jules for best trance dj 8O ... are you kidding me??? ferry should have won that. and pete tong should not have won best house dj, roger sanchez should.

taken from http://www.plastikibiza.com: We were however, very impressed by the M8 Awards at Eden, both in terms of its presentation and the majority of the results. A few of the more forward thinking Ibiza legends like Charlie Chester and Jo Mills came to San Antonio for the ceremony and many commented on how Eden managed to blend a classy show with a complete lack of pretence. Without mentioning any names a lot of people felt that a number of Ibiza faces didn't come because Eden is in San Antonio and therefore cannot be cool or credible. Prejudice is a damaging and limiting thing in any aspect of life, so it's their loss <---

. Barbara Tucker was the compere and although she is a legendary singer, we hope that Eden take our suggestion of getting the Cuban Bros to compere it in 2007, because the diva made a few hilarious cock ups (such as the Tidy Boys being called the Titty Boys!) <--- . Given the amount of time Eden had to put it together they did a fantastic job and we're sure that this particular awards ceremony will go from strength to strength over the next few years. Congratulations to Bar M who deservedly won bar of the year.
