LPG conversions

anyone had one done?

does it affect warranty/free servicing agreements?

found out that i can convert mine for the sum of £1900 and it will take 2 yrs before it starts to save me £'s

Considered it myself, but was worried about the performance and resale value.

I'm only getting 15-18mpg (around town) so something's gonna have to give.

:x

Don't pay £1900.....you can get a government grant to pay a large portion of that...

OK I have one on my Land Rover

Most companies will invalidate your warranty unless the system is approved.

PRINS is widely acknowledged as a good quality conversion (probably the best)

Servicing is the same ££ as the std garage will just leave the LPG injectors & regulator etc. alone.

The LPG sysyem shoul dbe inspected every year or 20,000 miles - maybe the fuel trims will need re-setting.

LPG burns at a much higher temperature than unleaded so the valves can take a hammering. Most jap engines (vvt, vtec etc.) have soft valves so can need replacing but a flashlube system in the conversion will reduce the effect. and this is only about £100

Budget on £1500 plus vat for a 4 cylinder & £1800 for a 6 cylinder for cost of conversion.

LPG costs about 42p from motorway services but supermarkets sell it for as little as 30p so shop around!

Consumption is more or less the same vs petrol but do check where the tank would be located and the size of tank you can have as this affects the range between fillups.

The bigger the better without encroaching on boot space is the general rule of thumb. I have a 70L tank under the back end but some saloons you will have to forgo the spare wheel to get a 55L in the well and either use runflats or carry a can of tyre weld with you. (Or put the spare in the boot).

The government grants (powershift) are no longer available as European legislation on state aid came into force earlier this year.

Basicall you can cut your fuel bill to almost a third, so work out how much you pay a month / year on fuel and calculate how long to re-coup the cost of conversion.

Or do what I did and buy a car already converted as the conversion doesn't add much to the re-sale value. Make sure the conversion has an LPGA certificate and do some research on the conversion company as some have been kicked out of the LPGA after complaints.

Any more questions - pm me as I scoured all the info before buying. ;)
