Review of my 5th trip to the lovely white isle…..I may have waited to long to write this review, so I am a little fuzzy on the tracks that I heard….
Left NYC Thursday (July 20) night with my girlfriend LT (her second trip) and landed in Ibiza on Friday afternoon (July 21)…..8 hour flight to Madrid, 4 hour layover, 1 hour flight to Ibiza, 6 hour time difference, no sleep whatsoever – IT DIDN’T MATTER, as soon as I got off that plane I had that feeling that I get every year when I land there.
We stayed at Es Vive and took our cab over there….as soon as we got there, we met Ralph and his lovely wife, who were the parents of one of the owners and truly nice people. Their daughter is currently working in NYC for the same firm as LT’s brother, who tragically lost his life on Sept 11….we agreed that it is her brother’s way of letting her know that he is always with her. After chatting with Ralph for a while, we checked into our room (which was directly above the Base Bar) and then walked over to Bora Bora….now I have always stayed at the Jet, and for some unknown reason, I thought that Bora Bora was much closer to Es Vive….well, it isn’t, this was a HIKE. But it was nice…..we hung out at Bora Bora, and then hit up Tantra to meet my buddy Mario to sort us out with some tickets for Made in Italy. This was LT’s first time at Amnesia, and my first in 3 years…..first thing that you realize about clubs in Ibiza vs. NYC, is how fast that the line moves to get in, we got there around 3 and didn’t even wait 5 min. Once inside, I saw the beginning of a scary trend – the humming of ‘7 Nation Army’; I really thought that this would only be at this party, I was dead wrong. But aside from that, this night was really cool…..great theme. I am not a big fan of shows in a club, but the stuff that they had going on the stages was really cool. Good live performance, and Lee Burridge played a killer set, even dropping the NYC Classic ‘Flylife’. Got back to the hotel a little before 8, and had a drink that the Base Bar before hitting the pillow.
On Saturday, we went to Restaurant Talamanca, upon Ralph’s recommendation. Pizza was great, and it was cool to just chill on a relaxed beach for the day. That night, LT and I went to Dalt Villa and ate at the Dalt Villa restaurant, before heading back to our hotel, to discover that our friend Sabrina arrived 7 hours later than expected.
Sunday, we woke up and hung out at the Es Vive pool, as we were waiting for 2 more of our friends to arrive. Had a great day by the pool and met a ton of cool people. Our friends arrived and we just drank by the pool, before LT and I broke away for Space, just to see Tom Novy close the sunset terrace…..Novy ROCKED IT!!! Great set. Highlights were Chocolate Puma – Always and Forever (which would be the track that I heard the most); Pete Heller – Big Love; Danny T – Music is the Answer (SICK!!!!) and he closed with a really cool remix of Depeche Mode – Its No Good……thought I was about to here Pete Heller – Simpler a few times, but it was never dropped, none the less, this was a set to be remembered. After Space (and WAY too many drinks, as my hair in the pictures will attest) we headed over to El Divino for MN2S w/Tony Humphries, where our friends met us. Was supposed to be on the guest list, but weren’t, talked our way in for free though, always a plus. I love Tony, but the crowd wasn’t great and El Divino is not my fav venue….so around 6 we headed back to the Base….had a great time there till 8.
Monday; last year I think that DC-10 was a little too hard core for LT, and we planned on going to Pacha (S-Man is her fav) so we skipped it and went to Salinas for the day, while our friends hit DC-10. Had great paella at Guarana, and just had a cool chilled day at Salinas….came back for a disco nap, met Jason one of the owners of Es Vive, who put us on the list for Pacha that night……Pacha, the S-Man NEVER disappoints (September 30 – Crobar NYC for my b’day cant wait)…..great vibe, great crowd, great party….highlights were Green Velvet – La La Land (S-Man loves this); some cool remix of Madonna – The Idea of Being in Love; Mr Gee – Electro (Cube Guys mix); Red Carpet – Allright (Tom DeNeefe remix….this song is IBIZA); Sanchez – Turn on the Music and Lost; Haji & Emmanuel – Tonight (Kurd Mav remix); Pete Heller – Big Love; and stormed the dance floor for Fresh & Juicy – Blow that Door.
After getting home at 7:30, our friends woke us at 9, as we rented a boat to go to Formenterra….somehow LT and I were fine. I don’t know what to say about this day. Just look at my pictures, this was my first trip to Formenterra, and one of the greatest days of my life…..sunrise to sunset was absolutely amazing. Words can do this day ZERO justice. We then went to Bambuddha Grove for dinner, which was really good, but I almost fell asleep in my dessert….
Wednesday, we were up bright and early for In Bed at Space…..LT and I met Ms Barbara Tucker at this party last year, who is from my hometown, and I have since remained friends with her….got to Space too discover that we were not on the list…..after speaking to door guy for a few min and showing him my NYC license, he let me and LT in for free. We got in and the Tune Brothers were on…..they rocked it. Actually playing vinyl. Played a ton of great tracks, but what is stuck in my head?? Chocolate Puma – Always and Forever (some great remix though)…also played Big Love and a few other solid tracks. We chatted with Barbara for a while, then watched her perform Dutty Funk and Precious Love….stayed for a little of Jonathan Ulyssess set (where it is the only time that I heard The Egg vs David Guetta) before heading over to Bora Bora for some food and to chill by the beach. We had dinner reservations at Pacha, but LT and I decided that we needed a disco nap, so we slept and decided to meet our friends there. Now I was going for Behrouz (who I think is sick) and did not have high expectations for Morillo…..got there at 2 as Behrouz was on and rocking it….only track that I recognized was Ame – Rej, but he was amazing….Morillo came on at 4, and I have said it before, the man is totally different in Ibiza, he sounds nothing like this in NYC, and he was UNREAL….highlights were Till West – Same Man, Ame – Rej (w/Finally Accapella); Mr Gee – Electro; Supermode – Tell Me Why; a SLAMMING mix of Love Sensation; then he got heavy late night w/Richard F – 5 in the Morning; a great mix of Depeche Mode – Precious; then around 7, him and Behrouz started going record for record, and they KILLED Inner City – Good Life (Tone Depth remix) this one almost blew the roof off Pacha!!!!!! We left after that, and you couldn’t wipe the smile off my face….one of my best nights at Pacha ever.
Thursday, our last day was a recovery day….spent at the beach just chilling out. Shopped in Ibiza town, and had a good dinner at Plaza Del Sol. Walked into that new spot Ibz Lounge, wish we would have found it sooner, seems like a really cool spot.
Flew home Friday morning, and haven’t stopped thinking about the trip since…..
Here are the pictures, I also have a ton of video….will try to put on you tube.
