Hey all

i am getting married on Ibiza next year, unfortunately one of our guests can't fly due to health reasons.

So the question/challenge is, If you where that guest.

How would you get to Ibiza from London and how long would you take but you are not allowed to fly.

If it helps, my parents always join us in Ibiza by coming overland/sea. (Mum is terrified of flying you see)
They go from London Waterloo to Paris Gare du Nord by Eurostar.
Then a taxi to Paris Austerlitz
Then the Paris-Barcelona 'HotelTren' train overnight which lands in Barca at about 0800 in the morning. Then a local train to Valencia, then the Acciona fast ferry to Ibiza town.
Setting off mid afternoon on one day, they arrive at Ibiza town at 7pm the following evening, so about 27/28 hours. My parents actually enjoy the trip (me, I prefer 2 hours on a plane) and treat is as part of their holiday, the Hoteltren is quite nice as you can get your own en-suite cabin, and dinner on board so it's all quite civilized - though it all adds up, cost-wise.

Same thing happened with me. i had to drive over due to a brain hemmorage.
i went Dover to Calais, calais to Limoges,Limoges to Barcelona to ibiza.

Ibiza to Barcelona to calais on way back.

another time i went through Andorra which was nice in the summer.

I'm going quite the same way in mid July...

Night train Bremen - Zurich ( 20 £ )
Night train Zurich - Barcelona ( 55 £ )
Train Barcelona - Valencia ( 26 £ )
Ferry Valencia - Ibiza ( 93 £ ) <-- shortest route, highest fee

For night trains to Barcelona see http://www.elipsos.com, for ferries www.trasmediterranea.es. Getting train tickets for purely Spanish connections on the net via http://www.renfe.es is a bit trying, plus they require that you show up at a RENFE counter in a station and produce your credit card before getting on a Spanish train for the first time (when using Internet tickets).

Healthy Option

IN 2000 i cycled thru france to barcelona to catch the ferry - cost less than a hundred and took 6 days - stopped off for a bevy or two.

A Nicer Way

I have done it overland a few times - I prefer the more leisurley way. Eurostar in the morning from London to Lille (saves the hassle of getting through Paris) then connect with a direct service to either Montpellier or Perpignan, enjoy a nice evening and overnight stay. The following morning a direct train to Barcelona in time to spend the afternoon there. Then the overnight ferry that departs about 8 and arrives in ibiza town about 7 the next morning. The sight of Ibiza Town when you arrive by boat in the early morning sun is unforgetable. If you can spare 2 days it is a great way to do it.

Can you give some indication of the costs involved for this trip please?

Much appreciated....
