Just a few of the shows on in FLT at the mo Sil:

Chicago
Mama Mia
Phantom of the Opera
Les Miserables
The Lion King
Guys and Dolls
The Mousetrap
Mary Poppins
One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest
Billy Elliot
The Producers

That's just off the top of my head, a full list is there http://www.officiallondontheatre.co.uk/shows

What kind of thing do you think your mum and sis will be into?? Also if you go to the theatre I can recommend some nice restuarants where you can go to the post-theatre sitting (bout 10.30pm onwards which will be about your time to eat ;) )

Oh and unfortunately for your mum and sis Dirty Dancing doesn't start til October so you might want to plan another trip for them  ;)

I don't know what will they be into. My sister speaks a very little english, my mother the only she knows is "Sorry, I don't speak english" 8O
I'm not going with them, they are going on the saturday while i'm doing a bit of social spotlight life ;)
Thanks for that website, I'll pass onto them and they can choose it
Is it worth to buy tickets in advance or once we are there we can get them?

Also check the National Theatre listings...the plot lines may be a little more heavy but the production is outstandingly brilliant and it's a great venue with a moving stage etc.

All the best stuff comes out of there imo. ;)

When I was in London I went to the Globe Theatre for a Shakespeare thing and I was really really upset cos a week after my english exam I only could understand one scene that was in french :?

Still have you diarised for somewhere between 5-7 May Sil! ;)

Any idea what's happening? I'm assuming b___ o__ is taking over event management responsibilities?

Phantom of the Opera is amazing. Beautiful scores and a simple storyline.

The Producers is meant to be good.. but havent seen it.

Rent is a good one too.. not sure if it's on in London at the moment though.

Phantom is a winner for me everytime. :D

B___O___ is the event manager, if I have to organise anything in london you risk to end in a crap tourist bar :D

Any ideas if she's thinking along the lines of going somewhere horrid and getting wasted??? Or will it be posh cocktails on Portobello Rd???

Shall we summon her into the thread from the 'other side' with our psychic powers?

I don't do posh and I don't do coktails, but I'm not sure what is she planning.
I'll be free as soon as my girlies are in the theatre and I don't want to go too wrong cos on SUnday I have a fantastic day of family tourism 8O

Sounds good to me. Earlysh night for me it's 2 or 3 am tho

BTW, and back to the original objective of this threat, do you think it's worth buying theatre tickets in advance or once we are there will be fine?

I'm crap at this sort of thing but have mailed a friend who works in a theatre to see if he can sort you out with any decent seats/prices or give any advice on it! ;)

His answer:

Best to buy in advance... always.

Mary Poppins is a good family musical. Lion King too. Depends on how
old any kids are who might be going too... if there are any.

I have a friend who was in Poppins when it first opened, but not sure
if he's still there. I'll drop him a line and see if he can do any
cheap tickets for me if you like. My mate Flloyd is on the Lion King
crew as well that I can see if he can do something for me.

Also depends on what day of the week. Weekends are always a bit
dicey. Mid-week they can usually do something good.

...

Lemme know if you've got any thoughts/questions! Not sure about the best places to go in advance but will ask about that too. ;)

Oh! many thanks!
I was thinking in Phantom of the Opera, funkylady said it's an easy argument and it's a classic.
Just with the place where to buy best tickets in advance we are done :D

lion king is prob best for poor english speakers. lots of stunning stage effects and im sure you family are familiar with the story

phantom is truly truly rubbish (IMHO)

producers is really good but your folks won't get the jokes

mary poppins is pretty good. the story is not very similar to the film, it;s much darker and much more interesting. but your folks might enjoy it.

guys and dolls is good-ish. nice tunes but a dodgy production.

how about We Will Rock You? if they like the music of Freddy Mercury

Russ - knowing that you saw Mary Poppins - i see you in a whole new light!! 8O

And for saying Phantom of the Opera is rubbish i really do think your eyes may have been blinded from the soot in Mary Poppins!!!

Silvia - i'd say Lion King for your family as the story line is dead easy but the costumes are fantastic! Good luck!
