Liverpool Fan - not mistaken identity after all?

Anyone notice The Suns 'We love Scousers despite what we wrote about Hillsborough/foreign buggers imprison innocent Scouse lad' campaign has gone a bit quiet, 5,000 petition signature's or not?

Appears the bloke here who says 'I did it' is probably telling the truth. Just a shame that it was a completely different person he hit with a slab/brick, so it doesn't admonish the first bloke at all and the three witnesses who saw the more widely reported of the two incidents appear to have been right all along!

I said all along that there was something not right about that case.

Private Eye says that the Sun printed a tiny paragraph about it entitled something like 'bad news for Liverpool fan' buried on page 16 or 17 a few weeks ago.

I've noticed that often times in the UK, specifically in the press, there is the assumption that Eastern European justice systems are flawed... while admittedly there are difficiencies (in Russia especially), it is wrong to assume that any adverse outcome for a Westerner in E. Europe can be chalked up to a miscarriage of justice.

Sadly, given the evidence presented in this suprisingly sincere (and objective) Telegraph article, this appears to be a case where the assumptions, not matter how substantiated by the supposed "confessor", were wrong.
