Been wanting to do this for years, but never really found the time, so roughly how long did it take people to learn it? I know people learn at different sppeds but just wondering how long it took people as a guide?

Thanks

Dunno mate, RobbieG's been trying for about 7 years now though, and he's nearly at the beat-matching stage.

Boom Boom! Thanks a lot mate

Thats the last time I let you sleep on the sofa

Former Spotlighter Fronty, god rest his soul, got his beat matching on target in about 6 months.

He's still working on the fade/transition though...

In all honesty it took me about a year of mixing near enough every night when I was about 17 to really get it and be consistantly good.

I've gathered that it's the consistency that's the hard part. Even harder to translate that to public when you get a bit nervous...

1 yr to beat match comfortably
1 yr to learn structures of tracks, when to mix in etc...
1 yr to piss about with DJM600 fx and to develop a style!

add 3yrs to save up enough cash to get a pair of CDJ1000s :(

Never stop learning IMO - always something new to have a go at and new kit coming out.

To beat match to a reasonable standard tho - about 6 months

Beat matching.....
CD's or Vinyl? l learned on vinyl with cheap decks... it probably took longer because they were cheap...!

CD's seem quicker for some folk...

AUTO BEAT MATCH BUTTON?

i made mix cds for my friends on my laptop with a simple mp3 mixing program for a couple of years, it had an auto beatmatch button so there was no skill involved really, but this taught me all about the timing aspect of mixing.

when i finally bought some cdj's last year it was just a case of learning to beatmatch i can now mix perfect and consistent, but when playing out in front of lots of people its nerve racking for the 1st couple of tunes, after that tho you start to get really into it!
