LCD Soundsystem - who's sad to see them go?

Probably my favourite band to emerge in the noughties - made one classic LP, one near classic and one very good one. Also an excellent live band.

So who else is sad to see them go?

I heart LCD and will similarly miss them, although no doubt, the genius that is Mr Murphy has other tricks up his sleeve - maybe on DFA?

they revived the new-wave sound for the modern dancefloor and in 'yeah', 'losing my edge' and the '45:33' 4 tracker made what I consider 3 of the outstanding pieces of music of the 2000s - rock, house and trippy disco all colliding head on.

Tim Goldsworthy is doing a lot of DJing in London at the moment so it was unrealistic for them to carry on.

Yeah,a pity they are knocking it on the head, listening was like a non-stop spot the musical reference
(in a good way)

Must admit I've given 45:33 and the Fabric mix less of a workout than their other stuff.

I guess you chaps bought London Sessions? If not, it's worth every penny.

I think Murphy's wanting to produce other bands, but I wonder how long it'll be till the LCD reunion?

The whole final show is on YouTube for those who don't know. Would love for it to have a DVD release.

I think they were never just a normal rock band doing normal albums (if you want new york art rock then check the strokes or something) what made LCD different and interesting is the sheer range of influences - some cynics said they basically just repackaged the post-punk thing from the early 80s but I think they brought something altogether new to the table and influenced all sorts of people. Check beatsinspace.net to see what I mean. A lot of the other electronic bands don't have that charismatic front man, but the guys on the DFA roster do and with say the juan maclean & hercules, they all make for awesome live performances. It also helps that both James Murphy and John Maclean are both extremely funny, the kind of dry New Yorkers I can really relate to - and a lot of what they do is one big pisstake, which you get or you don't. I think there is a definite element of the KLF's Bill Drummond in James Murphy and I will be very interested to see what his new project is. It won't just be 'another band', that is a cert.

I think you see it through too 'rockist' eyes - LCD is (was) James Murphy + the rest, it was never a band - Tim Goldsworthy is a DJ/producer, who I've met a few times, they took the project on the road with great success but it was never meant to be a band in the conventional sense.

I got into a small argument on another forum with someone who thought LCD was just James Murphy. I'm sure some of the others have writing credits. (I remember pedantically checking the sleeves.) Plus I think he keeps the same musicians, making for an extra tight band. I wouldn't bet on a 'reunion' being totally impossible 10 years down the line.

Also, I get what you mean about Murphy being rather 'arch', but he's also written lyrics that are genuinely affecting.

And The Strokes, I think i'd rather die than listen to again. Yet I bet there's a good share of numpties who see them as more important than LCD. Pointless band, with no interest in anything other than resting on New York's history. (Their debut was fun for a month or two.)

i'm glad i watched it last night in its integrity before it was removed then. 2 hours and 40 minutes!! :o

http://pitchfork.tv is the people who did the live streaming and there's some pictures of the farewell gig on their website.....

Pitchfork also have an analysis of every LCD track on their site. I'll be majorly pi$$ed off if the gig doesn't make it to DVD. From the couple of tracks I saw, it looked like it was great - and I've certainly loved them the two times I saw them live, the way they can go from something very indie like Drunk Girls to the reach for the lasers Yeah.

Finally found time to watch the concert video (yeah, 2.41.13 !!) last night, came here, saw Olly's message...damn :x speakers all revved up and everything!
