Saw a secret KT Tunstall charity gig last night. Didn't it think it was gonna be my bag, but was invited by a very good friend who's the stage manager at the venue.
Just the girl herself, a drummer (standing up - quite hard to do apparently) and a loop pedal. Really sounded like she had backing singers but my mate assure me there was not backing tape and what I could hear above her voice, was in fact, well, her voice from a couple of seconds ago recorded and looped through the pedal. She tapped out a back beat on the body of her guitar, looped and used it as the drum track for a couple of songs as well. Perhaps the drummer got tired standing up and needed a rest, eh?
Anyone seen this sort of thing with live music? My pal tells me a few people do it, but rarely with aptitude I saw/heard last night.
Incidently, the chap running the sound desk for my mate was the bassist from The Divine Comedy. Woke up this morning with a nagging sense of loss, then realised I had neglected to offer him a lift home, thus missing the opportunity to ask him, had he declined, whether he would, in fact, be making that particular journey on The National Express.
