Know this; know Ibiza - Editor's Choice, 05th July

I like the idea of this series, but a lot of the material gets repeated from reviews you've already done in the preceding couple of days :?

We go, we see, we do, we share - the best hotels, villas, restaurants, clubs & events. Know this: know Ibiza.

Read the full article in the main site: Know this; know Ibiza - Editor's Choice, 05th July

Comments welcome!

I enjoy reading these. They are always a nice round up of what has been happening and they are written very well so props on the great initiative.

I would love to hear more gossip and an insight into the 'behind the scenes' stuff that regular folk like us would not have access to. Combining gossip girl with know this; know ibiza would be an amazing read. It's always nice to read some juicy stuff and negative stuff sometimes :)

And I'm knit picking here -but the font size is too small and not consistent with the other pages.

Other than that I thoroughly enjoy reading it. :):)

Hi Morbyd (liking your user name & planned travel itinerary!)

You're quite right about the 'Know this; Know Ibiza' column referencing articles of the week and I appreciate the feedback on this. In essence, a good portion of 'Know this; Know Ibiza' is a summary of what we've looked at. The column itself is still in its trial stage and having read this comment, I'll hold it in mind as I move forward on looking at the format.

Wishing you safe travels and a great time in Ibiza when you arrive 8)

Hello MiniMarc & Bez,

Thanks for the observations about how we chose to deal with the dreadful restaurant!
It was a considered 'call' on what stance to take. I'm not a fan of using the clout of Ibiza Spotlight to denigrate businesses on Ibiza (although I reserve the right to judge each issue on an individual basis!)

In this particular instance, prior to making my decision, I spoke directly with the restaurant owner about my concerns and in the process discovered there was a story behind the scenes.

I am far more enthusiastic about promoting the best of Ibiza, supporting businesses and individuals and having had the conversation with the owner, the most credible stance I could take was to not give the restaurant any direct press & give them a chance to sort their issues out.

Restaurant of the Week.
This week I went to (supposedly) one of the finest restaurants on the island
and my meal was a disaster.
Had I not had company I would have sent back the starter,
the mains and not bothered to hang around for the dessert.
This is where Ibiza Spotlight really stands out from the crowd because frankly,
if it's lousy I'm not going to play nicey-nicey
and tell you anything different.

..."

a) name of this restaurant ?
b) what did the owner say to excuse the disastrous meal ?
c) what was the "story behind the scenes" ?
d) if the food was **** - what has "sending the starter/mains/etc back"
to do with "company" or not ??

icebear - stop stirring. if cat doesn't wish to name the restaurant, respect that please.

if cat names it, the restaurant immediately suffers. you know how quickly word gets around on today's web. instead of that, she spoke personally to the owner, who thanked her for the honest comments, explained the situation and will remedy it. you can't get a better outcome than that. it is win win for everyone.

so in the case below names are named,
but in the case above names aren´t named :?: :!: :?

Missed the Mark but Worthy of Mention.
One name that really should have been on the list if we were only looking at fantastic food
in a beautiful setting is Atzaro -
both the Hotel and the new Beach Bar in Cala Nova.
Credit to the chefs of both locations, the food is truly worthy of mention.
However, the service was so far below par that regrettably
we can't say "Go! You'll have a fantastic time!"
because chances are too great that you won't.

If that changes we'll be pleased to let you know.
In the meantime Atzaro Chefs, thanks for the food -
you at least did yourselves and the venues proud!

Hi!,

Thanks for raising this - and I think you're right to do

Looking after what's good (or has the potential to be good) on Ibiza and simultaneously try and make sure our audience isn't ripped off in any way is a day by day, step by step process.

The two restaurants in question presented two different issues.

The first restaurant failed in several areas - standard of food and service being just two.
Atzaro however failed in just one area - service.

After each incident both venues were spoken with.

The first unnamed restaurant conceded there was a problem and they would look to remedy it. Good for them and good for their customers - we were happy to work with that (and by all accounts they have done so)

Atzaro however, when approached, took a very different stance. The customer(s) concerns about aspects of the service were dismissed.

Good service isn't high on everyone's priorities - sometimes an gorgeous venue and a fantastic menu is sufficient and in those arena's Atzaro ticks both boxes. But if good service is important then flagging it as an issue seemed appropriate.

Cat.
