Hey does anyone know much about that month long rave in the Ukraine called Kazantip?? Has anyone been? Know if its worth giving it a look

Iv seen some videos it looks insane, well for a non-stop rave that goes for a month you think it would have to be
 
I've heard it's an absolute blast. It's been going on for a few years but has been one of the best-kept secrets around outside the CIS. I almost went for the closing party last year.

This year my mates and I are planning on going down for the opening on the last weekend of July.

The downside is that I've heard they weren't given permission to build their temporary housing (Kazantip City) this year. Thus, you're on your own in finding a place in one of the handful of small local hotels. If you don't have someone in your group who speaks Russian (or Ukrainian), I'd give it a miss this year unless they get things straightened out.
 
I'd heard about this... just read up on it and said its cancelled this year? or just the housing?

looks like a lot of fun!
 
I think it's just the housing cancelled... which could be a problem seeing as it's in a tiny town... although it is in a resort area so there should be some options (even if a bit Soviet)

Another option would be to live in the next town, which is a bit larger (nearest train station), and take a taxi back and forth. I imagine it'd still be cheaper than taking a taxi in London :lol:

My friends and I talked about it again last night... I'm pretty sure we're going.
 
From what I understand it its getting alot worse in recent times than what it used to be with alot of russian mafia present and drugs and people trying to con tourists and stuff. It used to solely be about music and sex haha dam that sounds good. Theres a documentary about it at http://www.vbs.tv/shows.php?show=1075
 
Anywhere in the world where you've got lots of tourists you'll find people trying to con them... especially in places like this small town where there wasn't much tourist infrastructure before (not like Odessa or other places in the Crimea). You just have to use common sense.

As for Russian mafia, I never believe stories about them until I've seen it with my own eyes. I've been out here for several years and I've never run across them. Not like in the movies!

Edit: I just watched that video. Kind of stupid, to be honest (oh, we're just here for sex!).... those guys they called mafia weren't mafia.
