Well said Stu. I was quite often told by companies that an ex-Armed forces background is well looked upon. However, after almost 6 years in the corporate world, I think that there is one factor that the corporate world does not state that works to the advantage of management in a manipulative way. Depending on the rank of the person in the Armed forces that person is more likely to put up with all sorts of crap, and say Yes Sir, Ay Ay Sir.
In my previous company there were quite a few folks who had served as "foot soldiers" in the armed forces. All of these guys were the Yes Sir types. However, there were a few who were officers, and their attitude was quite a bit different, as they would challenge authority wherever it made sense. A couple of them were West Point (Sandhurst equivalent in the US) graduates also. So every time I now hear from the corporate world that it is great to have an Armed forces background, I tend to take it with a grain of salt.
Obviously, you cannot have Primadonnas running around in the armed forces, but then again as Gen. Patton said "If everyone is thinking alike, then somebody is not thinking".
