Guys,

Do you think it is a good idea to leave a "prestigious" company (if you feel in danger of getting stuck in a rut) for a more senior role with a better salary in a less well known one, on the basis that you can trade up the resultant experience and get a top job with a blue-chip next time round... (if that makes any sense!!)

Any advice welcomed.... :D

How YOU doing Sync

I definitely think it is, I left one of the supposed top companies in UK and never regretted it at all.

I think you should go for it Sync ;)

I think it will look good that you've left a prestigious company in order to gain more experience in what you do.

How YOU doing?!!!

Yeah, that's my feeling on it...I think it's necessary for me at this moment in time.

Drop me an email when you get a min Babs - can't find your address. :D

Hi John :D

Definately go for it mate... I'm in a kinda similar situation. Basically you have got to go with your gut instinct, if you're not happy now, you're not going to be if you stay

Good luck! :D

Hi Becki, how you and Jon? Long time o see?

Yeah, I think you're right - if I stayed it would be in the hope that I would get promoted, which is not guaranteed. In the end you can get sidelined if you're not careful...

Have you booked Ibiza yet?

I'm very well thankyou and you ;)

Some people thought I was stupid leaving top company with all the security and benefits etc that came with it but that's not the bee all and end all imo. You'll find that if you've worked for big corporate company you've always got it on your CV and prospective employers will be keen to see you, plus if you ever want to go back to the big corporate world you've done both sides of the equation.

I'll mail you now ;)

Me and Jon are fiiiine thanks! Yep, Ibiza is all booked up, going 18-25 June yay! :D

Are you planning on going this year?

If this new job is better paid and will further your career, then YES.

Anything else is just wrapping paper, in my humble opinion.

I might be yeah, but unfortunately, what with this job, it probably won't be at the same time as you guys...

are you guys going out soon - we'll have to hook up at some point?

Difficult to advise without knowing more mate...but i think i remember where you work (large firm in Clerkenwell yeah? ;)).

Its all about the position - don't worry about "losing" blue chip experience now because the original company will always be on your cv - at the end of the day its all about your personal experience in the role anyway so if you are getting a better "role" then don't worry.

go with your gut instincts.

John,

I'm in the same position as you. We've just been taken over by a huge corporation and I hate everything about my job now. I am so desperate to leave and go to a smaller company. Who cares about a name? It's all about work satisfaction at the end of the day. You spend a half your life working so you might as well try and enjoy it! Let me know what happens. ;)
