Last year when I was on the Island I noticed quite a few of the wee blighters on nearly all the beaches we visited. This made me really nervous to go into the water. Im a big wussy i know.
I was just wondering what the water is like for them this year. We are staying in portinatx.

I'm not sure about the north side of the island.

We saw a LOT of them at 3 different spots on the west coast. Several people I was with got stung. Pee was employed on at least 3 occasions

We didn't see any jellyfish on the 3 beaches we visited on the south coast. I think it has to do with prevailing winds, currents, etc.

I was in Ibiza from 28th June until – 12th July & there were lots of Jellyfish ( Medusas in Spanish ) @ Salinas in the first few days but they seemed to ease up after a few days but the red cross people on the beach were still slapping on lots of ointment on poor folk who got stung throughout the time I was there. Be careful.

The prediction for the mediterranean area for the year is that we going to see many jellyfish.
The big problem comes because the natural enemies of jellyfish are endangered species so as there aren't so many enemies for them there is more and more:evil:. Another consequence of an anti ecological policy.

I always remember a few years ago, me and my dad were enjoying a nice relaxing swim, and a Jellyfish smaller than a golf ball was floating around ...

**** off a shovell springs to mind:o

I was zapped by one at Atlantis 2 years ago. I was an idiot though, there were several people who were standing on the side of the lagoon pointing and yelling, however I don't speak Spanish so I guess that's what I get:) Doesn't hurt enough to ruin your trip, pee and booze work very well.

Saw loads of the little red ones in Formentera - we were surrounded by them at one point!

Also saw a couple at Talamanca and think I might've been stung but it was only nippy for a few minutes.

While in San Antonio Bay in July/August i must of seen 50+ of them, my mate and my brother were both stung. As said it's not enough to ruin your trip but it's not pleasant. I was Stung when younger in Santa Eulalia and it was enough pain to make you weary of the sea.

Jelly fish

We went to portinatx in May this year and didn't see any jelly fish near the main beaches only time we did see any that was when we went to Cala Portinatx the third beach in Portinatx but you only saw them if you walked away from the beach and away from the bars towards the light house and even then you wouldn't sunbath there as its all rocks in the bay.

Any more info you need please ask.

Portinatx is beautiful hope you enjoy yourselves there.

PS I posted a review of Portinatx in the forum

What’s the current situation concerning Jellyfish – I’ll be heading for Salinas on Thursday – will it be ok to go into the water ?
