James Frey - A Million Little Pieces

Has anyone read this??

Probably one of the most graphic and detailed accounts of drug/alcohol addiction I've ever read, really truly shocking and some of it doesn't make pleasant reading but one of those books you just can't put down. It's also really well written which isn't always the case with some addicts 'memoirs'.

Definitely read it if you get the chance.

a good friend of mine has just read it, he said pretty much the same thing, think I will definately give it a go

This book has been all over the news this week. The website The Smoking Gun published an investigative report which shows that a number of the events and facts presented in this 'memoir' are ficticious or grossly embellished. These include his alleged time in jail and a pivotal incident in which he claimed to have been blamed for a traffic accident death.

Frey was on CNN's Larry King Live defending the book a couple of nights ago. I didn't see it, but apparently Oprah Winfrey phoned in her support since it was her inclusion of the book in her Oprah's Book Club that helped catapult the publication into international bestseller territory.

Still, Frey is getting quite a lynching in the US press, which differs from the UK in its vigorous questioning of journalistic embellishment.

The Smoking Gun report can be found here: http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0104061jamesfrey1.html

I still might read the book though... just have to take it with a grain of salt (or count it as fiction)

Who is James Frey? :?

Hello there Stuie :D

It's an autobiography of this bloke who gets so fukced up on drinks and drugs and what happens to him and the whole rehab process. I don't doubt like Morbyd said that some bits are embellished cos that's often the case with these addicts memoirs but you still can't fail to be moved by what he goes thru which can only be written first-hand by someone who has experienced such severe addictions.

Perhaps when you're next in London Town, me, you, Rob and Nick could for a Book Group  ;)

ooh a book group! I like the idea of that!

b____ o___ could read passages from the book and we could then act out those passages - feeling the pain of the characters etc

then we could get both drama AND reading badges

(am I veering away from sensibleness?)

and we could wear nice little tweed outfits and twin sets too, because that's what people who go to book clubs wear in my imagination.

I'd love to wear a twin set and pearls, although I have a feeling they'd be made out of bags :?

You're really embracing this idea aren't you Naddyz

I could imagine it now, B_____O__ say in her chair while her eager to learn flock of B______ sit at her feet listening to her every word
