my hard drive was full (of music mainly), so i bought a 500GB badlad with the intention of transferring it all onto there and thus leaving my PC as clear as possible.

i've copied all the itunes files to the external hard drive but all the music in itunes is linked to a folder in the C: drive, so if i delete any of them, then it won't show up in itunes.

i've changed the new address for importing music, so it goes straight onto the external drive, but how can i change the source of the existing music without going through 7000 songs individually.

you cant.

(ON A MAC) - itunes creates a library file which lets it know where the songs are (irrespective if they are in the "itunes music folder").

id imagine its the same priciple on a PC.

what i would do, seeing that you have to start from scratch is to locate and copy ALL your music onto yr new drive in a folder called "itunes music folder", and set that as the place you want all music to be located, and delete the originals from the old location.

next time you start up itunes, it will ask you where "NAME OF FILE" is, if you try to play that file... just find that file, and if theres any other missing ones in that folder it should update those....

just make sure before you start to uncheck the copy music files to itunes pref or you will get dupes of everythng you open in itunes.

you can also check the organise music files icon, but that means going through and editing all the ID3 tags... so if you have time on your hands or have OCD thats the way to go!

there nowt wring with itunes, if you organise it in the first place.

problems arise when you run out of disc space and realise that yr library is all over the shop!

i've covered my dislike for apple before, not meaning to go over old ground, just trying to fulfill my 4.25 daily post quota
