Got mates who have business here and there are mixed reviews vip is up , high value is up .

But it looks like the cheaper sectors are suffering

How the hell are we going to get the island back to being a top 10 holiday destination?

Until this summer, my last visits were in 2010 and 2012. To me, the island seemed normal in terms of vehicle traffic and pedestrian traffic from what I compare. This time, I did not have the opportunity to walk Ibiza Town in the evenings, so I cant comment there.

It could be that this is not an off-year for the island but rather a 'return to the mean' from recent years with ridiculous attendance. Its not a coincidence that there was also a crescendo in complaints from locals and seasonal workers on accommodation and noise in the same period.

This is not a sustainable model currently, as its us commoners subsidize the clubs. The VIPs give the owners a bit more profit margin, but the regular punter is who keeps the electric and water bills paid. Plus, who wants to be a VIP in an empty (beach) club... however I think the hotel accommodations price levels, not club & restaurant prices, are what are keeping people away (supposedly justified in upgrades in star-level and change to adults-only).

Less choice for the "value" sector punters might start to put me off!!

When regulars like you start to say that then it means we have reached an inflection point. I do think it is part of the normal business cycle. The effects are exaggerated because its ibiza, where everyone is too drunk, high or horny to think about how much they are spending.

It’s surely just the market correcting itself, “vips” going back to the proper rich bods and the wannabes being priced out.... and hopefully a lot of the hoteliers looking to make a quick buck by giving their hotel a lick of paint, adding “suites” to their name, a few Bali beds and doubling their rates will re-assess their model
