Hi Guys, this a pop mix of a track I am trying to release independently, with a video.(There are banging dance mixes on the way).I've put my heart and soul into it for a year, but it seems it's gonna cost me about 10,000 pounds,to do it properly.
My heart says yes but ma head's pounding. My question to you is,in your opinion should I go for it or not?I am looking for a yes/no,but feel free to comment.
I appreciate your time and respect your point of view.Keep it real, all the best for the coming summer,SickBoy. http://soundcloud.com/sickboy-2/tracks

I would say No. Do not put 10grand of your own money into trying to get this track out there.
Lets keep this constructive. What is your break down of 10grand and how would that figure go towards getting this track to where it needs to be. Also , where do you want it to go?How high are you aiming? Having worked on music video's I can tell you that if u want a half decent looking vid that is remotely credible it will cost you more than 10grand alone and thats if you knew ppl in the industry and could call favours. With regards to video's , record labels pay for them in general . They are the visual advert for the song which is the product . If the product is so so then if you were going to market it the advert has to be top level , so good that ppl almost forget about the product and talk about the advert. Amazing products dont need such interesting adverts. Something like Dyson Hoover's were so good when they came out it spoke for itself. It might seem weird to talk about products etc but I'm pretty sure thats how record companies think.
Now you said you were going to do it independantly. Whats your reason? If its because no label has agreed to sign the track its simple , its no good. If you havnt tried yet then you really need to as that will be your first indication from the industry if anyone who's important thinks its any good.
Best of luck. Dont put 10grand in

edit: It seems u only have 1 track on Soundcloud. If this is your first track that you've been working away at for a year I'd suggest trying a few others , totally different , expand your knowledge and production skills and it may help you make this one better. just a thought

Hi, MWT.

I think MiniMac is absolutely right. Why don´t you look, for example in soundcloud,
there are a few groups for unsigned tracks there.

One possible is here :

http://soundcloud.com/groups/deep-house

Take a look, it´s not only deephouse. Or you can try even to contact some of the bigger labels. Spending 10grand for a video, which will be shown where?

On youtube only? No one would play it on TV without support. Don´t get blended by such "Super"-Videos with Pool, Party and lots of Titties! If you think your music is good, contact DJs to get it played in clubs. If it has success there, maybe someone
will release incl. Video.

By the way: I would make u a funny Ibiza-Video for 5grand with my home-videocam if you want to:lol:

It´s only my point of view and like MiniMac said, produce much more than one track.
But don´t hesitate, go on with your work, cheers Asti !

if you're talking figures like that you really need to get professional advice, rather than put polls up on random messageboards - that's serious money you're playing with!

unless of course this poll is a ruse and a not-so-subtle means of keeping your track at the top of the page ;)

In order to remain objective I have not yet listened to the track.

DO NOT spend such a ridiculous amount of money promoting your music.

This works for large labels but only for tracks which are being released off of the back of huge club success or for established artists.

My advice to you would be to get the track sent to every relevant label / DJ you can think of.

Promote through the accepted norms like myspace and do your best to garner local support from local jocks and radio stations.

A lot of the biggest tracks start off life this way and gather momentum over the space of a year or so for example, the new Meck track started off as a modern remix of a classic tune but is now achieving mainstream success in a more traditional "bootleg" or "mash up" (i hate that term...) form with vocals.

Best of luck to you - keep the faith and believe in what you do.

Do it because you love it - forget money.

EDIT: I think you have the grounding of a great track but it lacks some "oomph". Why not spend some of your cash on a couple of hours in a studio with an engineer. Sometimes a fresh set of ears can really help. I'll do a full critique later when I have more time :)

Hi guys, first off sorry for replying so late.Thank you for your advice which is insightful and given me plenty of food for thought, and echos many of the reservations I was having.I still want to do the video, but have to take into consideration the drawbacks you have highlighted,I want to do it independently, if I can to keep control of the direction and content, also many record companies may have issues with the subject matter and be less willing to have a punt on it.even if they rate it.I am not willing to compromise on that.
I am in the process of contacting djs and trying to get their support in my area, and hope to gain some momentum in the clubs as was suggested,I am working on re-mixes and am looking for a experienced dj to re-mix it.Today I have sent the track to a producer'Groovepusher',who I have formed a relationship with.his stuff is great, and will do a mix for $300.I have sought and am seeking advice from people I know and can contact within the industry.
I will keep you updated with progess and will post future mixes, thanks again for your help and advice,it really is appreciated, all the best,
Marty.
My biggest worry is this track was written a year ago when there wasn't much similar stuff around, popular tastes change so quickly, and this track reflects a moment in time, for which there might not be an appetite for in a year or so.I have hard drives full of music, this one I felt had the most legs and for htese reasons I was and am willing to gamble all,not for finanacial return, although I have no desire to bust myself completely.
