Is renting a villa a good idea?

It's illegal to drink and drive in Ibiza as is the case in most countries.

In Spain, you can not legally drive with a blood alcohol level of over 0.05%.

That's a bit less than in the US (0.08%) but more than in Russia (zero tolerance).

The only thing that worries me, is that once you rent a villa, you have to pay everything up front and there are no refunds...

Since we are many people from different countries, can we ask for several bills and not just one?

Hi, I am thinking of renting a villa with a group of 5-9 friends. Is it a good idea if the villa is in the countryside? I guess a car is essential. Any pros / cons? We are going for 2 weeks.

definitely go for it, if you're a) a bunch of people and b) are staying for two weeks! of course, you will need a car (or maybe even two, when you're 9 peeps), but if you can divide all the costs, then it won't be that expensive and i think it's really cool to have a villa hired there! i haven't done it before unfortunately, but people's reviews are always very good on that!

Villas are great fun, we rented last year, in the countryside near Can Tomas.

Car is a must, taxis are generally ok at finding most places though, and find out where your nearest shops are as if the villa doesn't have it's own clean water supply you will need to go out and get water etc when u arrive.

Lock up safely when u go out don't leave it open, as we had somethings go missing from our villa one night when we went out clubbing :) .

Have fun though, you will enjoy it!!

Could be great fun, especially with a vehicle. Although the downsides are that you can't drink and drive and that you won't meet as many people as you would do staying in a resort

But you can invite many people back for pool parties?

Also, how bad are the drunk driving crackdowns? I don't mean drunk, can't drive in a straight line, but coming back home all loved up after Cream for example?

Some villas have their own water supply which has been filtered or what not to allow you to drink it, is what I meant sorry.

The villa we stayed at had drinkable tap water, from it's own supply, but some will be through mains water which you shouldn't drink like hotels.

It's worth checking that as when we arrived the villa was bare so we just drank tap water until we found the nearest supermarket. :)

Puppylover converted Me and Mrs Jam to villas and IMHO it's the only way to go....

We stayed just outside San Jose (KM8 ) last year and there were 6 of us.

Two cars meant we could squeeze in one on the way out at night but we had a car at the villa the next day to go an collect the other one

(cab home obviously)

We didn't have a Villa party but it was an option, own pool, air conditioned, Sat Tv (not that we watched it).

Definitely recommend it.....

Yep - we have a villa again this year. At my time of life I like my peace and quiet as well as total debauchery!!! I dont want to have to listen to other people's "tunes" round the pool, or the general packed sunbathing areas and especially screaming kids divebombing into the pool either...

Seriously, we have only stayed in Hotel type accommodation 3 times due to not getting our **** together and organising ourselves......the other 7 times have been villas and for me, there is no comparison.

I'm not keen on having to leave a hotel room for the maids to come round, and I really dont like the claustrophobic atmosphere too of a hotel room/bathroom/balcony - I like space, I like to use one bedroom to dump our bags etc, one to sleep in and having 2 bathrooms is brilliant!!. With the villa/car option we get there, dump the bags, drive straight to Syp Supermarket - buy 2 weeks worth of food, drink, toiletries etc, back to the villa and relax for the duration.

its bliss.... and for me - comfort in the accommodation side of the holiday is quite important.....

Hmm sounds great, it is just that some friends of mine are not sure, they are afraid to always be stuck there...

On a related note, can anybody reccomend a place where they sell high quality groceries? Like excellent meat for BBQs Russian/Kazakh style (a lot of my friends are Russians from Kazakhstan, we party sexy time in Ibiza very niiiice) Last time my friends stayed at Jet and the groceries there were yuk, dust covered processed foods and wilted veggies.

Also, about the drunk driving, we are going to have a designated driver, but she IS going to drink a little, that is why I am asking, how strict are they in Ibiza?

I don't think most people on here will understand what you mean by Russian/Kazakh style BBQ ;) I assume you're planning to make some shashlyk. Mmmm. Very good food to have when your appetite returns after a long night out :D

Here's a recent thread where people discussed places to get fresh meat and veggies: http://www.spotlight-forums.com/showthread.php?t=43920

(what part of Kaz are your friends from? Almaty?)

Thanks for asking. Still hurts :(
My limp is somewhat less serious than it was (though I suppose it won't be if I decide to go out tonight... any minute now )
