Intl flights... for a non-citizen

Oi, quick question for my travel-prone mates across the pond...

I'm trying to plan a trip to Ibiza, but the cost is ridiculous when departing from the US. The cheapest rate I found on any of the online sites was $2300 USD, and that's ONLY airfare! But I found that rates from US -> London were only $800, and London -> Ibiza is only $200. $1000 is a lot easier to digest.

So! My question is, and I have no idea here... if I try to book a flight outta Heathrow months in advance, are there any roadblocks with beaurocratic red tape? Any headaches from the London authorities with me using Heathrow as a trampoline to get to Ibiza?

Or is it as simple as just buying the tickets through each airline independently, and then just fly into Heathrow a few hours in advance of my Ibiza hop?

¿Tienes consejo? ¿Pensamientos?

Yes - One huge massive problem, you can't fly from Heathrow to Ibiza!!! The nearest airport would be Gatwick!

A flight from Heathrow would attract a change, possibly at Barcelona.

I can't believe that they're charging you US$800 to fly here, when we only pay (approx) UD$300 to get to America and back again!!

With regard to red tape etc, there may be a form you must fill in, either on plane or on landing, to allow non EEC people into Ibiza - my mate from New Zealand has to do this everytime.

Who are you booking flight with by the way?

I booked seperate flights from Toronto to Manchester and then from Manchester to Ibiza and didn't have any problems... nor am I expecting them. It's pretty much like a connecting flight only. But if you are worried, talk to your travel agent.

"Talk to my travel agent"... heh, I think I must have lost that phone number somewhere. ;) I prefer shoe-string plans coming together at the last minute. I never have gotten around to picking up an agent to help me along the way.

But that's great news about the flights, I'm a lot less worried about the mess now. I've got no idea what carrier I'll be flying out of the UK. Probably Iberia or British Airways. Any carriers I should avoid?

I'm probably going to book my flight sometime in mid-July. I was trying to get out there in July, but I'm trying to save more cash. So I'll skip July and August, and then break out there in September right before the closing season.

Should be... interesting. 1 man from NC. 2 days in the air. 5 nights in the clubs. Ahhh, let the adventure begin.

Well you don't have to hire an agent to ask them questions. Call up any agent and just ask them and they will answer you regardless.

Only airline I would say best to avoid if you can is Iberia... went with them first time and was terrible. First flight was cancelled due to mechanical problems and they didn't even try to get another flight for me so missed my other flight... then the stewardesses were f***ing rude... and then they tore my bag upon arrival in Ibiza. Unless you don't have much choice, I would advise against them.

I had no problem. I'm from NY. I find that to fly out of the major airports (JFK, PIT, ATL, YYZ or for you, RDU) it is the cheapest. I flew from JFK to MUC, from MUC I flew to VLC and then took the ferry.

This is crazy!!!

If you book a return flight from Heathrow to New York is costs the equivalent of US$670, whereas if you book a return flight from New York to Heathrow, is costs US$1,100+

How does that work?
