In House We Trust 4
Mixed by Alex Neri & Omid 16B
Few electronic based dance labels stand the test of time better than Yoshitoshi. This label along with its sub-labels, Yo! And Shinichi has been pumping out quality house tunes for almost a decade now and shows no sign of stopping.
The In house we trust DJ mix series began all the way back in 1996 on the Tribal America label, was mixed by Deepdish and featured killer tracks like Quench – “High Frequency” and Deep Sensation – “Better love”
Once Deepdish started their own DC based Yoshitoshi label, it was only a matter of time till they built up their label releases and revived the In house We Trust series.
In 2002, six years after the first In House We Trust CD, the much overdue sequel was released. Mixed by Behrouz and MV the CD was an instant classic and paved the way for volume 3 in 2003 mixed by Luke Fair and Desyn Masiello.
So here we are in 2004 and it is only fitting that we are treated to the fourth installment in the series.
In House We Trust 4 is mixed by Alex Neri (one half of Planet Funk) and Omid 16B and represents a cross section of the best of Yoshitoshi and Shinichi recordings past, present and future.
Both Omid and Alex have a unique sound and following and their take on the Yoshitoshi catalog is quite different from the previous In House We Trust CD’s.
Alex Neri kicks off the compilation with Weekend Worlds “The word” and slowly picks up the tempo of his mix with every progressing track. I have to say this is one of the best mixes I have heard in awhile.
The CD has a seamless flow and each track leads perfectly into the next (like the eerie remix of I feel Stereo by Behrouz into juniper street beats by Dean Coleman) ever so slowly building into a climactic finish with Fred Numfs “drifting”
Next up is Omid 16B and he follows nicely in Alex Neri’s footsteps. Omid is a man who needs no introduction. He is the founder and owner of both the Sexonwax and Alola labels in the UK. He’s worked with countless producers like Steve Lawler and François K as well as doing remixes for the likes of The Cure and Gus Gus.
Omid immediately goes for the Jugular in the beginning of his mix by dropping the highly old school sounding and contagious track “Just the Acid” by Hani at about 8 minutes in and rides the track with the K.O.T. “Flutapella”……Insane!
Omid’s mix reminds me of a classic New York style house set. With tracks like the Cajmere remix of Alcatraz - “Gimmie Love” and Mysterious People - “Fly Away” to Omids own break beat remix of “Voices Kill” this mix is quirky, fun and full of great twists with the use of acappella’s and effects
Booth mixes are outstanding. This is easily the best installment of the In House We Trust Series to date. I highly recommend this for one’s collection. It’s an instant classic and a must have. Viva house!
