impossibility of diet

How can I do a diet???? it's impossible the way I live, I mean, today I have done the diet, salad, etc but at nigth my mother suggested why don't we go to the Asturiano? , how can I possible do a diet if I go to the Asturiano???,this is the story of my life, here in Spain joy, going out or every social event is related with food!!!!! you cannot do anything if you don't eat, wich I must say I like a lot, I mean I don' think there is anything better than a meal with friends and some good wine, or some tapas with beer, my way of thinking in the joy of socialising is having dinner or lunch. In fact some polls that has been made says that spanish people like, balearic, catalan, Murcia etc understand that a romantic nigth starts with a dinner, so how I suppose to make diet!!! :?
what do you think?????? it's hardly impossible for you or you make it quite easily and what's more I am starting to be fed up of being on a diet, for me it seems I have been on a diet for the hole time of my life.

I've never dieted in my life and I don't particularly agree with dieting, I don't see the point in denying yourself anything. I tend to eat quite healthily in the week mainly cos I am vegetarian so my diet is naturally quite healthily but if I'm going out for dinner etc then I never watch what I eat. Life's too short to worry about counting calories, if you enjoy your food Mikkak then you enjoy it ;)

OK, on a more practical note:

Mikkak - as you know, I love food too... but I have to be careful because my weight fluctuates. I've found it's useful to limit yourself to one big meal a day and, if you have to eat another one, just keep your portions very small and try to make the meal a healthy one.

All the nutritionists tell you it's wrong, but my "good" meal is usually dinner. That's because I like to cook and enjoy a good meal at the end of the day. I've found that you can have this meal as tasty and fattening as you want to, as long as you haven't taken in a lot of other calories during the day.

I did this after my South Africa trip and I've lost 4-5 kilos in the past month and a half. Now I'm slowly easing back into eating lunch (though not every day yet).

It's best to combine diet with exercise, of course. I never quite get around to that part.

What's not practical about what I wrote, I think as soon as people go on diets and start denying themselves anything then they're immediately going to start craving whatever they're denying themselves. I think my advice was very practical, a little bit of everything is good for you :D

Problem with diets is that most people cut way down on their daily intake, so your body immediately goes into survival mode and stores fat, which is why most dieters gain weight instead of losing.

Best way to follow a good diet is to make a list of good foods which you enjoy eating, then stick to these but don't make it boring.

I'm lucky with my diet cos i've never liked sweets, chocolate etc which makes it much easier.

That's what I'm like, I just don't like chocolate and don't have a sweet tooth and I don't like most puddings. On the other hand tho I could eat savuories like crisps til they come out my ears

Ditto.

:P

I think Babs' advice is the most practical. I've tried every diet going, weight watchers, no carbs after 6pm, low fat diet etc etc, and each time I've just been made unhappy by the constant calorie counting and denying myself foods that I like.
I got so bored with constantly watching my weight, and seeing lack of results that in the end I decided to give it all up.
I'm a much happier person allowing myself to eat whatever I want. Food is there to be enjoyed and if you cant enjoy it then IMO it's a very sorry existance.

That's not to say I've turned into a cake eating 30 stone pile of lard 8O  I make sure I eat 5 pieces of fruit and veg a day, and work out in the gym 3/4 times a week.

I haven't got the body I've dreamed of, but I've learnt to accept my body for what it is and just be happy with it!

I don't agree with diets, if you feel your gaining weight eat smaller portions for a few weeks.
I've seen your pics Mikkak and your lovely anyway, you don't need to lose weight.

If you employ a bit of self control and discipline, diets work. They help you correct abberations in your weight when you've packed on a few extra pounds from your normal range.

For me, that's usually after a trip or vacation where you're eating out a lot.

It's easy to say "don't deny yourself anything" if what you usually want is not that much (or if you have a high metabolism). I love fatty foods, I tend to eat a lot at a sitting (put it in front of me, I will eat it!), and I have a mid-range metabolism.

Normally, that's not a problem but when I do pack on a couple of extra kilos then a short-term diet helps to get back down into my usual range.

hi peeps :D :D :D , yesterday nigth I just was upset cause I am incapabable of saying no to something I love to eat, when I been a good girl all week. just think is unfair cause I don't eat as much as other people and I allways gain some kilos just cause I go out twice, I think air puts me on weigth ;) ;) doctor told me that I got a very slow metabolism, I have part of fault cause if I go out once or twice a week after doing my diet all week I just have to eat the hole plate, even so I absolutly full.
But today it is everything ok cause I gone to my favourite shop and bougth all what I could, I spoiled myself a lot :D :D :D :D :D with the excuse that next week I going to England and that I need warm clothes :D :D :D :D
thanks for all you advice and courage
