Ibiza review 2007

Arrived very early Sunday morning and went straight out to the West end at about 3am where we were meet by what seemed to be a heck of a lot of drunken people (i.e.: everyone). Had a few drinks in Hush, then into basement where Mike met someone from his old school to his surprise. Back to the apartment for around 6am.

Sunday: Got up around 12pm, lazed around the pool for a couple of hours before heading to the Bay Bar for Lunch (I recommend there tuna-cheese baguettes for 4 euro) and to watch the Arsenal game . After this we proceeded to find our bearings in San Antonio, we where staying at the Hostal Anibal which is around 15mins from San An town and 15mins from the Bay, a fairly nice walk though along the promenade. Once we had worked out where everything was (the sunset strip, the bay and beach) we went back to the Hotel to get ready for the evening.
Had dinner in one of the square restaurants before heading to Pussycat’s to get a cocktail each for €10 which also included a ticket to Amnesia for the espuma foam party with Robbie Rivera. After this we trotted down to Amsterdam Bar in the west end for 2 Smirnoff’s Ice each and a pint of vodka-red bull between us for €10. Now after this things get very Hazy, this is down to one of two reasons: I can’t handle my drink (which I drunk a lot more on other nights and was not as affected as this) or the more likely scenario of my Drink was Spiked. I am told it was 12.30pm when we left Amsterdam’s (that’s the last thing I remember) we then headed off to Amnesia for the foam party where my friend left me on a seat for 10mins when he went dancing. Next thing he knows he came back and I had vanished, so he goes around the club searching for me, gets the tanoy to announce my name etc and goes back to the hotel via taxi to see if I am there. I’m not so he comes back again waits out side the club at 6am and I don’t turn up, he eventually finds me at 6.45am where the bus-stop is outside Amnesia. Now in the meantime I had woken up at a bus-stop 5mins down the road with my fingers all cut-up and blood on my face at around 5.30am, then managed to stagger to the bus-stop mentioned above. Somehow I must have slept at the bus-stop for a couple of hours or passed out after falling unconscious. Spent the rest of the Holiday with bandages around my fingers.

Monday: Slept till around 1pm then we hit the beach for most of the day. We headed up to the Sunset Strip for the first time at around 7.30pm and got a great spot outside Café Mambo. Was a perfect sunset (although there was a better one to come).
Evening we went to the Pink Panther after dinner in a restaurant in the bay, where we met the delightful Suepink and her staff and stayed there until around 2am drinking her wonderful cocktails. On the way back we stopped for a little rest on the seat along the promenade where we where promptly sat on by two big black prostitutes who wouldn’t take no for an answer, needless to say eventually we got on our way after convincing them we where broke. Popped into Plastik which was dead before heading into Eden for free, which was rather banging at that time (3am) didn’t think it was as bad as people had made out and thought it was a reasonable little club for the price (free lol). The music was alright as well. Not the best but still was ok.

Tuesday: Spent the day in Playa den bossa, great beach and great sea compared to San Antonio it was miles better. The sea was much clearer and the sand was a whole lot better. Most of the early evening was taken up at Bora Bora. WOW!!!! Is all I can say, the atmosphere there was better than any club I visited in the whole week, I loved the whole greeting of planes, the crazy people and dancing till sunset. I was nice also because it had a much more Spanish feel to it and international as well compared to San Antonio, was great to experience the whole day-party, something I have never done before but would defiantly do again, just a shame we didn’t go there again. There Sangria is very good there also.
Evening: We had some cocktails in a bar (can’t remember the name but a good price: 7€ for 2 cocktails plus a shot. At about 12am we trotted off to Space for Carl Cox via Bora Bora to see the hippies on the beach outside playing the drums and again wonderful atmosphere. After finally finding the internet queue we got inside Space at around 12.45am to get in for FatBoy Slim. Outstanding is all I can say, that guy can work a crowd and his tunes and skills as a DJ are second to none, he certainly was a highlight of that night. Easily a lifetime ambition of seeing him live and as his reputation goes he didn’t disappoint and more than delivered. Stayed in the main room till around 3am till just after Carl Cox came on and went into the Terrace, where we caught the last 30mins of LTJ Bukem and MC Conrad. Really wish we had saw more of them because there music was just so crazy and fast to dance to. Loved the MC and the lightshow worked really well with the music, as I said was just a shame we didn’t see more of them and came in towards the end. Next up was Josh Wink, now as I have heard a lot about him on here about how good he is was quite looking forward to him. We left after half an hour because just didn’t think he was so great and couldn’t get into his style of music. There wasn’t much there to dance to, so left feeling a bit disappointed about that. Space as a Club was out of this world, easily the best club I have ever been to, very easy to get lost if you don’t know your way. I loved the upstairs terrace where you can watch the planes land and get some air and all the little rooms to chill out in. Back to the partying we stayed mainly in the main room with Carl Cox., where we had a guy from Blade runner who singed a couple of eyebrows off with his Sparkler pack (lol) balloons and great Music from the big man A couple of little niggles though- the heat, was sweating buckets and it must have been around 35C in there, they should have put the Ice cannons on more frequently was very bad to get dehydrated when a small bottle of water is 7€. The amount of bottles on the floor. Also the idiot bouncers, who don’t open the saloon bar even after you tell them you left a bag with a towel, sunglasses swim shorts and sun cream in there. Idiots. Apart from that this was probably my best clubbing night/day of the whole week. More like a rock concert than a music club!
We crawled out of Space 6.40am, then finding out we missed the last Disco Bus and had to wait till 8.30am to get the next bus. **** that lol we got a taxi after walking to Figuretas ( I think it was anyway).

Wednesday: Today was a generally lazy/recovery day. We crawled out of bed at around 4.30pm and spent the rest of the day around the pool at the Hotel.
Evening was fairly uneventful compared to previous evenings. We had a great Chinese meal 3 courses for 8.80€ which also included a drink. This was about two mins walk away from Mei Ling Chinese and was upstairs looking over the fountains, defiantly recommended at that price! Evening was spent down the west end in which we visited Kilties, Soul City, Ground Zero and Play 2 all very good bars and Play 2 did play some very good music considering it was free entrance and seemed like a proper club you would pay about £5 to get into over in this country.

Thursday: Woke up and straight out to the beach for a big sun-bathing day. Had lunch at Orange Corner, a very nice toastie (a word of warning the drinks are almost as expensive!!). One of the best memories I will take with me was playing beach football as the sun was going down right before sunset on San An beach, was a tranquil and amazing experience, one I will never forget.
Evening: Had dinner at another restaurant in the square, had a great four cheese pizza. We the ventured into Soul City, before going into Ground Zero and then heading off to catch the Disco Bus for Cream with Paul Van Dyk. We first of all went to Bar M to get the free bus, but after finding out you had to buy the tickets there to get the free bus, we went to the bus station. Although the PR guy I spoke to earlier didn’t mention anything about you had to buy the tickets THERE to get the free bus. I count this as my first real trip to Amnesia as the first time I still have no memory of it. At first impression of it I wasn’t overly impressed, compared to Space it reminded me of a converted Barn and a bit of a shack. Once I got into it though it didn’t seem at all bad. The main dance floor was far too overcrowded so we left to go into the terrace about 4.30am (30mins after Paul Van Dyk came on). He came on far too late in my opinion, as I thought the set before him apart from playing the odd classic decent tune was crap compared to him. After being in the terrace till about 5.20ish we went back into the main room. By now he had warmed up and was blasting the tunes and it was magnificent, you could see he was playing to the crowd and his mixing was really good. Didn’t want to leave to be honest but was dragged out by my mate at around 6.40am. I think comparing the likes of Paul Van Dyk to the old school of Carl Cox and Fatboy Slim I would rather see the DJ actually use decks rather than just see the back of a Apple Laptop, it gives out much more to the audience that you can actually see what they are doing. Saying that I enjoyed Pauls set very much and thought he deservedly gets all the praise he has done in the past.

Friday: Had a trip into Ibiza town and the original plan was to got to Pacha in the evening for Pure Pacha but unfortunately due to our budget we couldn’t afford it. We went up to the old cathedral via a old deserted mansion that we thought was just another way up to it. Ended up having to climb over some locked gates to get out rather than walk down a load of steps. It was like one of those deserted houses you see in horror films, all burnt out with shutters open and graffiti and rubbish everywhere lol. After we eventually made it up there it was all worth it just for the views of Ibiza Town Port and the resorts of Figureats and Play den bossa. Had a superb dinner at an Italian restaurant in an Ibiza town back street after stopping on the way down to town for a drink at a Hillside bar that oddly wasn’t serving food on that day. After looking at the evening market and asking what a long thin tube was for by this German man “It is for your nose, for coke, just to suck it up”. LOL we thought it was something for cannabis!!
We then headed back to San Antonio and didn’t get out till around 12pm. A word of advice I would give is that the police might need to be a little bit harder on the drugs guys. I must have been offered class A drugs at least five times every night walking along the promenade, If your into that thing that’s fine, I just thought it would not be as open as it was. Evening again was spent mainly in Play 2, soul city and Ground Zero. We also went to capons and another little bar/club that I can remember. After this my friend decided to empty his guts all over the pavement and we decided best to head home to the hotel.

Saturday: Checking out day and it was spent down the beach in the day, and we went to The Curry Club for Dinner. We managed to persuade the manger to let my friend in with only a towel covering his top. A word of warning- you need to have your shirt on to get on the busses out there and to eat in the restaurants. It was probably the best Korma Curry I have ever had. Managed to sprint off to the sunset strip which is only about 5mins away and catch one of the most breath taking sunsets of my life. Utterly brilliant and very apt considering it was the last sunset of our time in Ibiza. We just had time to nip to the Pink Panther for one last time for about an hour.
Don’t get me started on Taxi’s. We waited an hour and a half for one to come to our hotel that we ordered, and the end gave up as it was getting really close to our departure time and ended up walking along the streets looking and calling for one. We got approached by one of the illegal’s something which I wouldn’t normally ever do but we where desperate. He first of all took us along a very dark back and to be honest we both s***ing ourselves, before going along the motorway to the airport and under the tunnels at 130kmph where it clearly stated 60kmph. It was v. scary ride back to the airport but at least we got there in one piece and just about in time for our flight.

Hopefully I haven’t bored you all too much and a selectionof photos can be seen here:

Hope you have a great time, although I'm sure you'll make sure you do!

Yeah definatly Pacha will be top of the list if I can make it back next year, we'll have to see what the finaces say first, almost went bankrupt doing it this year, but it was certainly worth it

A very good review & I'm glad you enjoyed it. Believe me, once you've been you will go to go back every year!! I was out there from last Weds & flew back yesterday morning in the early hours.

I agree, PVD was well good but its always hard getting moved in the main room for Cream as nearly everyone turns up to see Paul & all the other big names. The only nite I didn't enjoy was Hed Kandi @ El Divino. I like the club but music wise its just too commercial to be charging 45 euros especially when other clubs are charging similar but the music is tons better.

What were your biggest tunes during the time you were there?

You see that's a hard one considering I'm one of those random people who will just about Dance to anything , and dosen't remember the actual music after he hears it, too busy dancing away to the next one!! Bora Bora played some well good stuff, especially to get me dancing in the day!

Of course the summer anthem that was being played everywhere was David Guetta's LOVE IS GONE, I don't think there was one day that I didn't hear that. Then you had the RHC Waiting for remix by David galbeddon, and also something I thought I would never hear in Ibiza.............. a rather good James Blunt Remix of his new song 1973. Now I would never thought I would ever utter those words, but whoever remix'd that song did a damn good job.

Also I loved it when fatboy slim, played something along the lines of "Djs Strut-Strut-strut" and I can't for the life of me remeber anything else apart from those lines .
