I have only arrived back from Ibiza 2 days ago, but here it goes:
I live in Seoul, Korea so this was about to be one long journey. I boarded my plane bound from Seoul to Paris at 9am Sept. 6 Seoul local time (7 hours ahead of Ibiza local time). I arrived in CDG Paris at about 2:45pm. This was my first trip to Ibiza so just the thought that I was in Paris and now in the same timezone as Ibiza got me excited. My friends from Miami had already arrived at 1:45pm and were already checked in at our place at Jet Apartments. My flight was delayed at CDG so I was feeling a bit anxious. Finally, I boarded and landed at BCN Barcelona at about 8:15pm. Now I was really getting pumped!! I new that in a few hours I'd be on the Amnesia Terrace listening to the sounds of Chris Lake and Steve Angello with clubbers from all around the world!!!!!!!!!!! I boarded my Ibiza bound flight from Barcelona at 9pm. As soon as the plane lifted off i was looking out the window trying to spot the Island 35 minutes later chills went up my spine as the Captain announced the descent to the Aeropuerto de Ibiza!!! As the plane descended and I saw all the lights and beachfront hotels of PDB, I turned off my IPOD and just sat there waiting for the plane to finish moving and for the seat belt light to go off!
When I made it to the exit door of the plane I felt that warm mediterranean breeze. I quickly made my way down the steps and into the shuttle buses, which road us to the airport entrance doors. Waiting at baggage claim I kept looking around, trying to really have it set in (that I finally made it here). My luggage was one of the first to come out luckily, and off I was to meet my crew and pull off a clubbing marathon for the record books!! As soon as I walk through the sliding doors Vince and Brian are there waiting (surprisingly sober, as they have been there since about 2 pm). We hop in a cab and off to PDB Jet Apartments. The short ride to my place was so surreal (I have been reading about, you tubing, and basically researching the Ibiza club life for a few years and had fell in love without even spending a minute on the island, but I new my sh*t about clubbing and music.) Driving pass all the billboards advertising club nights was so crazy, than all of a sudden I saw it. When I saw Space my adrenaline reached all time highs I just staired at it as if it was one of the wonders of the world. My place was actually better than i expected. It was part of Jet Apartments but a new section which was connected to the Delano Beach Bar adjacent to the Bora Bora main entrance. My balcony was actually the first one to your left if you were standing directly in front of Delano and facing it.
On to the clubbing..................
Round 1
We all jumped into taxis, and off to Cream at Amnesia. I am friends with Edgar V who is from the Miami area, so I decided to hear his set before making my way to the Mixmag Terrace to see Chris Lake (first time seeing him live) and Steve Angello (who I've seen many times and love). Lake played before Angello and he was just dropping some great tunes (i wish i could give a detailed tracklisting, but i'm in Ibiza on vacation and partying hard8), if you get my drift). One of my girls from Miami met a guy who was dancing around with neon body paint and she decided she wanted to have some, and ended up looking like Pocahontas. I noticed Angello in the Booth and was gathering everyone up so we could get a better spot on the floor. He grabbed the mic as Lake was turning the sound down and said "whats up Ibiza!!!, my name is Steve Angello. Are we ready to party?" The place went absolutely mad I honestly enjoyed Lake's set better, Angello played a set too similar to the Radio 1 Cream party (which i had downloaded and heard while on my transit in the air, but still I had a blast). We took the bus back to PDB at around 7 am.
When we got to my apartment we sat on our balcony sipping on Absinthe and watching the random clubbers make their way to the water. I was thinking about jumping in the shower and heading over to Space for Cassagrande So Fresh to see Till West and DJ Delicious, but I figured I'm here for 2 weeks (and for the first time) so decided to test out my bed and so I did.
Round 2
I woke up at around 2pm feeling good. I was a bit hungry, so I just whipped up a turkey sandwich (the girls went to the Jet Supermarket and stocked up on some sandwich meats and fruit juices). We all headed off at around 3pm to check out Bora Bora. It was a bit calm when we arrived, but by 5pm the place became legendary!!! I have never seen an entire bar/beach front of people so into the music and just with great smiles and no attitude. We didn't have a planned club night this evening so we decided to just get smashed at Bora Bora until we couldn't stand anymore. At 11pm we all were still dancing our asses, but by midnight we decided that any longer and we would regret it in the morning.
Round 3
I was awakend pretty early by the sounds of one of my roomates getting ready to layout on the beach. But, since I did get to bed early I decided to join her. I ran over to the grocery store and picked up some San Miguels and Sangria so we could have some refreshments while catching some sweet Mediterranean Sun8). It was around 3 pm when we ran into some Americans and a couple of Brazilians. They heard our accent and came over to chat, bringing over with them a watermelon with the inside carved out, and full of Absolut!!!!!!!!!!!!!. We had a great chat although I was later told I introduced myself about 5 different times (must've been the vodka). At around 8pm I decided (or maybe it was decided for me) that I should go back and take a power nap so I would be ready for Def Mix at Pacha later that evening. I woke up at around 11pm with a massive headache. I went over to our new friend's room and helped myself to some treats which cured my hangover rather quickly8). We arrived at Pacha at around 1 am, and Hector Romero was playing a wicked set dark electro with a hint of minimal. My friend Vince was putting Satoshi Tomeii on a pedastool, but to be honest I was not really into his set afterwards. I got a little carried away with my check card and spent more than I wanted to at the Bar, but nonetheless I really loved Pacha's glamour. The evenings most comedic moment was the 2 guys running around the mainroom dancefloor passing out lollipops
Round 4
The day before we got concession passes for We Love, but we had to get there by midday (to get the 35 Euro discount). We got back from Pacha at around 6:30am, but managed to get 3 hours of sleep in before our alarm went off. I was first in the shower as I had been waiting for this day since arriving on the Island. We arrived at Space at about 11:30am. As soon as I walked in I made my way to the Sunset Terrace. Not sure who was playing, but the place was packed and I was loving it!! About an hour into getting there Jonathan Ulyssess took over the decks, and this man is absolutely amazing!! When he played John Selway and Christian Smith's "Transit" I just lost it . Some guy was dancing around with a Barbie doll and raising it in the air and everyone was cheering (especially when the doll made its way to Ulyssess and he began to pump his hands up while holding the doll ). Next, I found myself in the Terraza listening to the sounds of Elio Riso. It was my first time hearing this guy play, but surely wouldn't be my last! By 7:30pm I was pretty trashed walking around just exploring all the rooms. I found myself fixed in the Discoteca for a while as it was much cooler than any of the other rooms. Finally, I was informed that Sebastien Leger was leveling the Terraza and I made my way there. I ran into Edgar V and we took a shot of Jaegermeister and danced our asses as Leger dropped Pryda "Genesis" to the delight of the whole room. I wanted to stay and hear Jeff Mills play later in the evening, but unfortunately I was feeling quite ill and decided to make my way back to the apartments at around 1030pm.
Round 5
I really didn't get to sleep until about 4 am, but actually got about 6 hours. We started getting ready for CircoLoco at DC10. We arrived at around 11am and I f*cking loved it as soon as I walked into the dark room I'm not sure what the lineup was, but the music was dark and dirty just the way I would like to spend a Monday afternoon8) The girls wanted to leave pretty quickly, but Vince and I were loving it and decided to stay. Unfortunately we only made it to around 4:30pm when we both went a bit overboard on the vodka limon and havana clubs. We decided to leave and get a bite to eat, and hopefully return. We grabbed a Pizza at the Jet Cafeteria, but then decided to just relax and check out MN2S at El Divino with Kurd Maverick and Seamus Haji. Unfortunately there was a massive misunderstanding at my apartment between the boys and the girls which left one girl having to cut her trip short, but it was actually a blessing in disguise. I didn't make it to MN2S (i was feeling a bit stressed from the events of the evening), but Vince said that the night was great, as Maverick dropped a track looped with the vocals of a Celia Cruz song which had me wishing I would've made it out.
Round 6
I really got some good sleep, and was ready for a full day and night. My friend Eileen wanted to do some souveneir shopping so we caught the bus to Eivissa. We walked around aimlessly until we found the Pacha store and also ran into Vince and Brian (who were staying at the Luxmar near Figueretas). After shopping for a few hours and walking around the port we decided to make our way to San Antonio. We went to the Bus terminal in Eivissa and caught the Bus to San An. We arrived at around 630pm and made our way to Cafe Mambo. We got a table for 4 at Mambo, but we were sitting outrageously close to each other, as the staff had all the tables basically on top of one another. I had an appetizer which was a waste of 13 euros, but I take it I was paying more for the view and the experience than the actual food. It was absolutely amazing watching the sunset although there was a bit of a haze so it wasn't as clear as it could've been. I will always stay in PDB, but you must goto San An to watch the sunset atleast once a trip. We left Mambo soon after that. Vince and Brian wanted to catch the Ibiza Rocks closing party, but didnt have tickets yet so ended up going to Alma at Privilege. Eileen and I had our tickets for the Carl Cox Closing party at Space so we caught the Bus back to Eivissa and another one to PDB. We got to Space at around 10pm to catch the end of Cox's set on the Sunset Terrace the energy was amazing Will Johnstone was panning the crowd with his video camera (i guess i may see myself sometime on dancetrippin.tv)8) Pepe Rosello was in the booth with Cox and I was just glad I was there to witness the madness. We went into the Discoteca to check Laurent Garnier, but I personally wasn't feeling his set and a few hours later I was tired of doing the head bopping dance (it was so crowded I couldn't move my arms) We decided to head out at around 5 am.
Round 7
Another great sleep (what can I say my bed was very comfortable). I got up around 2 pm and visited the Internet Cafe and sent some emails, as a friend was coming from California in a couple days and I wanted to make sure I had her flight information correct. Vince and Bryan were leaving the next morning back to Miami and they wanted to do some more shopping. I'm not into souveneirs atleast not on this trip, so Eileen went with them and I went to Bora Bora to hangout with Davide who is from Belgium and whom I met here on Spotlight8). We met up with some girls and enjoyed some Sangria and all the other crazy highlights that go on with being at Bora Bora at any given moment. I was thinking about going to Meganite at Privilege, but decided to have another Bora Bora binge and ended up crashing at about 2 am.
Round 8
I woke up pretty early this day and got some of my clothes together and dropped them off at the laundry service by the Jet supermarket. Its 8 euros a load, but after getting it back fresh and nicely folded i went away happy. Today was F*** Me I'm Famous day. I have only been to one of these parties before, and that was during WMC 2006. That party was unreal, so I was sure to be in for a treat as Axwell was Guetta's guest on this night. Once again spent the afternoon running around Bora Bora, but with some control as I wanted to save my energy for Pacha later that evening. We decided to leave for Pacha at 1130pm just to get a good spot in the club, knowing the place was going to be slammed. Sarah Main was warming the place up and I really liked her. We met up with Davide and his friends and got a good area and stayed there the whole night!! I knew it was going to be a commercial track filled night, but I was loving it as I made friends with two very good looking Italian girls who I danced with them the entire night. Too bad one seemed jealous and dragged her friend away towards the end. I know that the entire place was just waiting to hear "Love is Gone" and surprisingly Guetta waited pretty close to the end to play it which absolutely leveled the place. We decided to leave at about 630am not to have to wait in a outrageous queque for a taxi.
Round 9
I got to bed at 8am, but had to wake up at 1230pm. My friend Dora was arriving from L.A. at 1:15pm and I promised to meet her at the airport. I enjoyed waiting in front of the arrival doors looking at the people's expressions as they met up with their friends. Soon after Dora came through and we both screamed. I hadn't seen her in a year so we were very excited. She wasn't an Ibiza virgin, as she came during the sametime in 2006. I was hoping she would be jet lagged so I could get some more sleep. She was not and we were slamming the Sangrias at Bora Bora by 3pm. We met a group of English guys on a Bachelor Party weekend and f*ckin loved it!! I was not able to get their info, but hopefully we'll do it again next year. Eileen was leaving early the next morning, so she wasn't going to any clubs. One of Dora's friends from last year was flying in later in the evening and was going to be staying at our place. We got introduced to each other and right away I new that it was going to be a great week. We got 10 euro entry bands for Azuli at Space. I have never seen Audiojack live and really was looking forward to the night. Audiojack didn't dissapoint I literally didnt stop dancing the entire night. Dora got a little ill and left early, but Mike and I met some Spanish girls from Bilbao and kept the night going until the lights came on .
Round 10
I got up around 1pm with some really sore calves. I woke Dora up as we needed to goto Eivissa to the Centro to pick up a battery for her Camera. She is one of the most organized people I know and she packed everything except her battery and charger for the camera. We picked that up and quickly made it back to join in the madness at Bora Bora. Mike, Dora and myself became pretty popular out there at the beach bar it was to be our stomping grounds every single day. And as for me I was on my 10th consecutive day of pre partying at the infamous location. We decided to head over to Tantra and pickup tickets and a bus pass to the People from Ibiza Closing party at Amnesia. Im glad I made the decision to come to this party. I was pretty much the itinerary the whole trip so I kind gambled on this and hit it big8). I spent the whole night either on top of one of the boxes in the mainroom or trying to get a good spot for the Ice Cannon. The music was great, I know Brian Cross, Les Schmitz and Mar T were part of the lineup, but not sure who was who. Nonetheless I had a blast.
Round 11
I woke up at about Noon, and was still feeling the effects of the night before8). That was good, as I jumped in the shower and got ready for We Love. I attempted to wake Mike and Dora up for We Love, but they weren't having it. Too bad, as expected the Sunset Terrace once again was just rocking and I quickly befriended some English girls. Two of them were on an all expense paid trip they won on some Radio station in England to see Groove Armada at We Love!!! I enjoyed their company and we stayed together and made our way to the Terraza as one half of Groove Armada was playing a wicked set. I gave the girls a bit of a tour of the place as I was on my 4th trip to Space during this holiday8). We made it back to the Sunset Terrace to catch Tom Novy. Novy was really getting me up even more for it and my new friends and I were dancing uncontrollably. As Novy was getting ready to close the Sunset Terrace, something undescribable happened. I was bit trashed, but I will try to describe it to the best of my ability. He grabbed the Mic and simply said "terrace hands up" and then a track which i don't know the name dropped, the vocals sounded like Coldplay (but it wasn't) and I think it went like: "if we where hereeee, if we could just stay here......" not sure, but that completely brought chills to my spine and I had no other choice but to kiss both girls and give pretty much everyone around me a hug or a handshake. Unbelieveable moment........after that we went to the Discoteca to catch Zabiela and Fancuilli. But after what I had just experienced in the Sunset Terrace the girls and I decided it was time to call it a night.
Round 12 "LIVE TO CLUB ANOTHER DAY"
Mike and Dora ended up going to San An to catch the Judgement Sundays Closing Party. I got up around 1pm and was feeling excited. I tried getting them up to come with me, but it wasn't happening. I was going to meet the English girls who were leaving later this afternoon, but they wanted to meet up at DC10 for CircoLoco one last time for a dance8). The place was bumping as I arrived. As soon as i walked through into the front I met up with the girls. They seemed bummed that they were leaving in a few hours but we made the best of it. As we were enjoying the music, for some reason the sound kept going out. And on the third time is happened DC10 was silenced for a good 20 minutes I would say. The girls were obviously gutted do to the fact, but luckily the problem (which I never asked about) was fixed and the music came back on!!!! We danced about another hour and I had to send them off, but I had a blast with them. I made my way into the terrace and was just having a field day with all the people and just dancing without a care in the world.
Then I made a decision, which almost ended my vacation early, and ruined my plans on meeting some Spotlighters for a meet up at the Pink Panther in San An and later El Divino. As I was dancing around feeling amazing, I decided for some god awful reason to take a few bumps of something which I have done before plenty of times "to get me more wired." As I took it to the bathroom and into the stall instead of giving it a taste test, I proceeded to take two rather big servings of it. Within seconds I realized I just made a grave mistake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(it wasn't what i thought) I dont even think I made back to the terrace when my entire body went numb. Not to long after, I was put in an ambulance and off to the Hospital. Thanks to all the staff for helping me. Sometimes on vacation you just get in a comfort zone and make unwise decisions. I didn't get realesed from the hosptial until about 330am. So Emma2007, I really felt horrible that I wasn't able to meet up with you guys in San An and at El Divino. I didnt have a mobile, so Dora and Mike were at El Divino and figured I was going to meet them there. When they got back from the party, did I have a story to tell them8).
Round 13
After explaining what happened to me at DC10 and reassuring Mike and Dora that I was ok. We all went to bed at around 8 am. I woke up at around 3 pm. I was still feeling a bit sick, but I began to drink loads of water to just flush myself out. By 5pm I had an appetite and we decided to goto Moorea and have a bite. I had a great Salmon, and it was just what I needed to head off to Bora Bora and continue the holiday8). Another great time at Bora Bora. Especially when a group of Italians recognized me from DC10 the day before and were in awe that I was back in the shape I was in. We all decided to goto Space for Tenaglia's Ace of Clubs party. Once again Elio Riso knocked my socks off with is opening set for Tenaglia in the Terraza. I for sure will be looking for some of his sets to download!!! Tenaglia arrived, and as expected energetic as ever. He was dancing around the booth as Riso was wrapping his set up. Tenaglia really had me going, I didnt stop dancing until the lights turned on and we all were moved to the Discoteca where Josh Wink was throwing it down. I have never seen Josh Wink and really enjoyed his set. By the time Tenaglia got back on I was feeling really beat. I lasted until about 5 am and decided to head back.
Round 14
I woke up pretty early at around 11am. I needed to take all my dirty clothes to the laundry service. I didn't want to travel back to Korea with my luggage full of sweaty clothes:x. After dropping of my loads, I met up with a friend. She took me to her grandmothers apartment on the far east part of the Island called Cala Llenya. We walked around and it was really special for me seeing this part of Ibiza. I already fell in love with the people and clubs, but this day I realized there is so much more to this place. I was leaving at Noon the next day so I had her take me back to PDB at around 5pm. I needed to have one more mashing at Bora Bora, followed by my one and only visit to Privilege for the Meganite Closing Party. While at Bora Bora Mike and I meet up with two new English girls who had just arrived on the Island a few hours prior. I really sweet talked them and we had 2 more in our group for Meganite8). We got to Privilege at around 1:30am, but didnt get in until about 2:15am(longest queque i waited in the whole trip). I was really dissappointed on the condition of Privilege, but it was my first time hearing John Acquaviva live and was loving the music. I found myself looking at my watch at times, as my departure time was nearing. I told the girls: "i got 8 hours before my flight departs" they felt my pain, but I was ok with it. We ended leaving Privilege at 645am.
The Sunrise Session
We arrived back to the apartment at about 715am. It had almost been 2 weeks to the day that I sat in the same spot on my balcony sipping absinthe after my first club night on Ibiza. The wind was blowing off the sea and once again random clubbers were just walking along the beach. Dora went to bed, but Mike and I were wired. We just sat there talking about how special this holiday really was to us and especially for me, as it was my first time. I was explaining to him how I booked the trip in April and just was researching and organizing everything. I spoke of how being on Spotlight, helped me get some great pointers prior to my Holiday. Ibiza absolutely stole my heart. I know where I want to be every year sometime between the months of June and October. And maybe even call it home someday. Well I've been typing for a while now, but it was nice putting this together. Hopefully, it's not too long that no one will read it. Ibiza I love you and I cant wait to be with you again next September...............................
Ibiza has stolen another heart,
